In a method and device for conversion of water into hydrogen peroxide (HO), a corona discharge zone is generated between a first electrode () and a second electrode () one of which is insulated and another of which is not insulated and wherein a respective surface of each of the electrodes face one another. The first electrode () is rotated so as to induce relative rotation between the first electrode and the second electrode; and liquid water is conveyed on to a surface of the first electrode facing the second electrode close to the axis of rotation () of the first electrode whereby the liquid water advances outward through the corona discharge zone towards a periphery of the first electrode under the action of centrifugal force caused by rotation of the first electrode.

Method and device for conversion of water into hydrogen peroxide

In a method and apparatus () for air disinfection a unipolar corona discharge zone () is formed between an ionizing portion () of a first electrode () and a non-ionizing second electrode () by applying high DC voltage (&#x2033;) across the first and second electrodes and water molecules in an air flow () conveyed through the corona discharge zone are converted to hydrogen peroxide molecules. An electric field (&#x2033;) is generated across the air flow close to the corona discharge zone for preventing ions escaping from the corona discharge zone into the atmosphere. This allows a higher corona discharge current to be applied than would be permitted if ions were able to escape into the atmosphere, which results in a higher yield of hydrogen peroxide and increases the efficiency of disinfection. It also helps to prevent dust from settling on the ionizing portion ().

A method and device for conversion of water into hydrogen peroxide, wherein a corona discharge zone is generated between a rotating electrode formed as a hollow rotor of a centrifugal fan and a fixed electrode. The rotating electrode is rotated relative to an insulation layer of the fixed electrode, and high voltage AC power is applied to the fixed electrode while conveying vapor through the corona discharge zone. In one aspect, the novelty resides in using the rotating electrode for conversion of water to vapor. In another aspect, conductivity between the two electrodes induces electrolysis, which is used for high voltage AC transmission to the rotating electrode.

An ionizer includes a high voltage AC generator, and a planar ion emitter mounted on an insulating substrate and having an array of planar needles that protrude from an edge of the substrate. The high voltage AC generator may be actuated by a switch having a pair of mutually insulated planar contacts located near an edge of the insulating substrate and configured to be contacted by an electrically conductive coil spring. The coil spring is supported by a slider that is moveable toward the ion emitter from an initial position wherein the planar contacts are shorted by the spring so as to actuate the high voltage AC generator. Continued movement of the spring collects dust in its coils while breaking the switch contacts and de-energizing the high voltage AC generator.

A method of high efficiency generation of ions of desired polarity, which includes the steps of positioning a first electrode at a predetermined spacing from a second electrode having a closed shape configuration, applying to both electrodes a direct voltage of the same polarity, at the same time as applying the direct voltage, applying high voltage pulses to the first electrode only, thereby to cause ion generation in the vicinity of the first electrode and to set up a rapidly moving ion stream from the first to the second electrode along an electrical field therebetween, wherein the duration of the pulses is shorter than the time taken for the ion stream to reach the second electrode, and wherein ions in the ion stream have the same polarity as the second electrode, thereby to be repelled and concentrated as they flow through the second electrode.
