The present disclosure relates generally to occupancy detection, and more particularly to detecting a change in the occupancy of a predetermined area using a passive antenna array. In certain embodiments, baseline signals may be received by an antenna array associated with a display device. The baseline signals may analyzed to detect a baseline of radio frequency signals present in a predetermined area. New radio frequency signals may be received at a later time. The new signals may be analyzed to reveal characteristics of the new signals. Characteristics of the new signals may be compare to characteristics of the baseline signals to determine if the new signals differ from the baselines signals by more than a threshold amount. One or more actions may be executed in response to determining that the new signals differ from the baseline signals by more than the threshold amount.

System and methods of detecting human presence in the vicinity of a radio frequency receiver system

A burner includes a cylindrical tube that terminates in a burner discharge end. An annular disk, affixed to the discharge end, defines a hole. An oxidizer intake delivers oxidizer into the tube. A fuel nozzle delivers fuel into the tube. A cylindrical slotted member has an interrupted outer surface and is disposed within a portion of the tube. The slotted member is affixed to the annular disk and defines an interior void that opens to the hole. The tube and the slotted member define an annular passage therebetween. Elongated slots pass through the outer surface of the slotted member, each directed along a different non-diametrical chord of the slotted member. The elongated slots direct a gaseous stream into the interior void so as to impart both an inwardly-directed radial velocity component and a tangential velocity component to the gaseous stream.

Low NOx burner with low pressure drop

A burner box includes a housing, a fuel tube and a porous heat dissipating surface. The housing is bounded by a sidewall and has a top and an opposite bottom that are each open so that the sidewall defines an open passage that allows unimpeded vertical airflow. The fuel tube extends into the passage and defines a plurality of spaced apart orifices that distribute fuel into the open passage. The fuel tube is at a distance from the top of the housing so that substantially all of the fuel is entrained by the combustion air before the fuel reaches the top. The heat dissipating surface is disposed across the top of the housing and supports a flame. The heat dissipating surface includes enough open area so that the fuel/air mixture passes through the porous heat dissipating surface unimpeded. The heat dissipating surface dissipates heat from the flame and prevents flashback.

Ultra low NOx burner using distributed direct fuel injection

A method for combusting a combustible fuel includes providing a vessel having an opening near a proximate end and a closed distal end defining a combustion chamber. A combustible reactants mixture is presented into the combustion chamber. The combustible reactants mixture is ignited creating a flame and combustion products. The closed end of the combustion chamber is utilized for directing combustion products toward the opening of the combustion chamber creating a reverse flow of combustion products within the combustion chamber. The reverse flow of combustion products is intermixed with combustible reactants mixture to maintain the flame.

Stagnation point reverse flow combustor

A combustor assembly includes a combustor vessel having a wall, a proximate end defining an opening and a closed distal end opposite said proximate end. A manifold is carried by the proximate end. The manifold defines a combustion products exit. The combustion products exit being axially aligned with a portion of the closed distal end. A plurality of combustible reactant ports is carried by the manifold for directing combustible reactants into the combustion vessel from the region of the proximate end towards the closed distal end.

Stagnation point reverse flow combustor for a combustion system

Methods for avoiding surge in a compressor are provided. A representative method includes detecting precursor information of the compressor and controlling the compressor based on the precursor information to avoid a surge condition in the compressor. The control scheme for the method uses a real time observer for on-line identification of magnitude and frequency of dominant precursor waves. The observer outputs feed into a fuzzy logic control scheme, and the identified frequency and amplitude of the precursors are used to actuate devices, such as a bleed valve and/or a fuel valve, for active control of compressor surge. Systems and other methods are provided.

Method and apparatus for active control of surge in compressors

A system for real time identification of modes of oscillation includes a sensor, an observer, a controller and an actuator. The sensor senses a controlled system such as a combustor, and generates a signal indicative of the modes of oscillation in the controlled system. For example, these modes of oscillation can be combustion instabilities. The observer receives the signal from the sensor, and uses the signal to determine modal functions and frequencies of the modes of interest with a pair of integrals with changing time limits. The controller receives the modal functions and frequency for each mode of interest from the observer, and effects a gain and phase shift for each mode. Based on the modal functions, the frequency, the gain and the phase shift, the controller generates and outputs a control signal, that is supplied to the actuator. The actuator controls the modes of oscillation of the controlled system, based on the control signal. The system of this invention can be used to damp or enhance oscillation modes of the controlled system, depending upon whether the oscillation modes are beneficial or detrimental to system performance.
