An intra-oral scanning device includes a light source and an optical system, and communicates with a display system. The device provides for more efficient transmission and capture of images. It integrates OCT scanning with RGB-based scanning. In operation, the device is used for recording topological characteristics of teeth, dental impressions, or stone models by digital methods and for use in CAD/CAM of dental restorative prosthetic devices. To that end, the RGB-based scan obtains surface data (e.g., a margin), while the OCT scan penetrates the surface. The two scanners operate from within the same physical housing and preferably at the same time such that only one scanning pass (to obtain all necessary data) is required. The 3D data obtained from the OCT scan is registered with the 3D data obtained from the RGB-based scan by virtue of being captured using a common return path. Preferably, the 3D surface data is used to align the volume data, such that the OCT scan operates over a much sparser scanning volume than would otherwise be required if the OCT scan were carried out separately. In this manner, there is less stitching of data required to build the output images, thereby enabling a 'one-pass' operation.

An optical sensor assembly that senses current in a secondary electrical cable while sensing voltage in a primary electrical cable. The optical sensor assembly may include a sensor body, a concentrator core for measuring current. The concentrator core may be attached to a first end of the sensor body. The optical sensor assembly may include a plurality of extension arms that extend from the sensor body. The extension arms may include clamping devices on one end that are configured to attach to a first electrical cable. The concentrator core may be configured to at least partially surround a second electrical cable and sense the current from that second electrical cable.

Electro-optic current sensor with high dynamic range and accuracy

An optical sensor that senses current by directing polarized light across an airgap that is orthogonal to a direction of current running through a conductor. The sensor includes a prism having a high Verdet constant for high sensitivity to magnetic fields, which cause an angle of polarization of the polarized light to be rotated as an indication of the magnitude of current. A polarizing beamsplitter having a low Verdet constant is mounted to the prism so that incoming light that is traveling in a direction orthogonal to the magnetic field being sensed across the airgap is insensitive to unwanted magnetic fields produced by nearby conductors. The distance the light travels in this orthogonal direction is minimized, reducing the overall volume of the sensor, making a compact sensor highly sensitive to magnetic fields of interest, largely insensitive to unwanted magnetic fields, and having a very high dynamic range for sensing current.

An intra-oral scanning device includes a light source and an optical system, and communicates with a display system. The device captures images of an object of interest, e.g., patient teeth or associated anatomy, by projecting the light source as a first series of frames, and a second series of frames. The first series of frames projects first pattern data, and the second series of frames projects second data. The second series of frames are interleaved between frames in the first series of frames. The frames in the first series are partially-illuminated and are used to capture data for a 3D model. The frames in the second series are preferably fully-illuminated and are used to generate a live preview of the object. By displaying the live preview frames in juxtaposition to the 3D model, the operator is provided with visual feedback of the object.

A collimator holder in the form of a glass or ceramic block that has precisely machined holes formed in the block to receive respective collimator assemblies. Each collimator assembly includes an optical fiber attached to a GRIN lens by a ferrule. Optionally, each collimator assembly can include a glass tube that surrounds at least the lens and optionally part or all of the ferrule. The lens or the tube is inserted into the hole and bonded therein by an epoxy. The block, together with the collimator assemblies installed, is bonded to the bottom surface of a crystal assembly thereby forming an electro-optic sensor. The crystal assembly can include one or more polarizing beam splitters, an electro-optic crystal, and a prism, configured to sense a current through a current-carrying cable or a voltage between the cable and another potential.

A structured light pattern digitizing method is combined with photogrammetry to determine a 3D model of an object. The structured light digitizing operation generates a 3D model of the object being scanned, and this model is then used to compute a higher accuracy model using photogrammetry.

The inventive filter forms a four filtering stage device from two filtering stages and a reflective stage. This greatly reduces the noise level in a WDM signal, wherein the signal is one of the odd channels and the even channels, while the noise is present on the other of the odd channels and the even channels. The first stage separates the WDM signal and noise into their polarization components, rotates the components of one of the signal and the noise, and recombines the components of the signal, while blocking a portion of the noise. This output is passed to the second stage which repeats the operation of the first stage. The output of the second stage is then reflected by the reflecting stage back to the second stage, and subsequently the first stage, for processing in reverse order. The inventive filter, via the mirror in the reflecting stage, reduce dispersion of the light during processing.
