Techniques for video processing, including video coding, video decoding and video transcoding are described. One example method includes performing a conversion between a video picture that includes one or more tiles and one or more rectangular slices and a bitstream of the video according to a rule. The rule specifies that, for iteratively determining information about the one or more rectangular slices, a variable indicating a tile index is updated only for slices having indices that are smaller than a value equal to a number of slices in the video picture minus 1.

Coding of pictures containing slices and tiles

A video coding mechanism is disclosed. The mechanism includes receiving a bitstream comprising a current picture including a sub-picture coded according to inter-prediction. A motion vector for a block of the sub-picture is determined. A clipping function is applied to sample locations in a reference block to support application of an interpolation filter when the motion vector points outside of the sub-picture and when a flag is set to indicate the sub-picture is treated as a picture. The interpolation filter is applied to results of the clipping function to obtain a predicted sample value. The block is decoded based on the predicted sample value. The block is forwarded for display as part of a decoded video sequence.

Embodiments of the present disclosure provide a solution for point cloud coding. A method for point cloud coding is proposed. The method comprises: performing a conversion between a point cloud sequence and a bitstream of the point cloud sequence based on a set of syntax elements comprising at least one of the following: a first syntax element identifying a first point cloud frame, a frame-specific attribute property being applied to the first point cloud frame, and the set of bits are indicated in the bitstream, or a second syntax element identifying a second point cloud frame, a frame boundary marker being applied to the second point cloud frame, wherein the length in bits of the second syntax element is greater than or equal to the number of bits in the set of bits.

Method, apparatus, and medium for point cloud coding

A method of decoding a coded video bitstream implemented by a video decoder is provided. The method includes receiving, by a receiver of the video decoder, a mixed intra random access point (IRAP) picture including a first sub-picture and a second sub-picture, wherein the first sub-picture is an IRAP picture and the second sub-picture is a non-IRAP sub-picture; receiving, by the receiver; a reference picture list (RPL) for the mixed IRAP picture; decoding, by a processor of the video decoder, the second sub-picture using the RPL; and generating, by the processor, an image based on the second sub-picture as decoded. A corresponding encoding method is also provided.

Sub-picture based random access

A method includes determining, for a conversion between a video block of a video and a bitstream of the video, a size of prediction block corresponding to the video block according to a rule. The method also includes performing the conversion based on the determining. The rule specifies that a first size of the prediction block is determined responsive to whether a prediction refinement using optical flow technique is used for coding the video block. The video block has a second size and is coded using an affine merge mode or an affine advanced motion vector prediction mode.

A method of processing video data includes performing a conversion between a video and a bitstream of the video. The bitstream includes one or more layers including one or more sublayers including one or more pictures including one or more subpictures according to a rule that specifies a rewriting operation selectively performed on one or more syntax structures during a subpicture sub-bitstream extraction process by which an output target sub-bitstream is extracted from the bitstream. The one or more syntax elements include information of the output target sub-bitstream.

Video parameter set constraints for subpicture sub-bitstream extraction

A method of video processing includes performing a conversion between a video and a bitstream of the video according to a rule. The rule specifies that a sub-bitstream extraction process is implemented to generate a sub-bitstream for decoding. The sub-bitstream extraction process is configured to extract, from the bitstream, a sub-bitstream with a target highest temporal identifier. The rule specifies that, during the extracting, upon removing a video coding layer (VCL) network abstraction layer (NAL) unit, filler data units and filler supplemental enhancement information (SEI) messages in SEI NAL units that are associated with the VCL NAL unit are also removed.

A method of decoding a coded video bitstream is provided. The method includes parsing a parameter set represented in the coded video bitstream. The parameter set contains a set of syntax elements that include a set of reference picture list structures. The method also includes parsing a slice header of a current slice represented in the coded video bitstream. The slice header contains an index of a reference picture list structure among the set of reference picture list structures in the parameter set. The method further includes deriving, based on the set of syntax elements in the parameter set and the index of the reference picture list structure, a reference picture list of the current slice. The method also includes obtaining, based on the reference picture list, at least one reconstructed block of the current slice.

Reference picture management in video coding

Methods, systems, and devices for signaling picture information in access units in video bitstream processing are disclosed. An example method of video processing includes performing a conversion between a video comprising one or more pictures and a bitstream of the video. The bitstream conforms to a format rule, which specifies that a flag and a syntax element, when included in the bitstream, are access unit (AU) specific. The flag indicates, in response to a current AU not being a first AU in the bitstream in a decoding order, whether a nominal coded picture buffer (CPB) removal time of the current AU is determined relative to (a) a nominal CPB removal time of a previous AU associated with a buffering period supplemental enhancement information (SEI) message, or (b) a nominal CPB removal time of the current AU.

Signalling of picture information in access units

A mechanism for processing video data is disclosed. A value of an annotated region (AR) object label index of an i-th AR object index (ar_object_label_idx[ar_object_idx[i]]) syntax element is determined. The ar_object_label_idx[ar_object_idx[i]] syntax element is specified to be in a range of N to M, where N and M are integers and N is less than M. A conversion is performed between a visual media data and a bitstream based on the ar_object_label_idx[ar_object_idx[i]] syntax element.

Enhanced signaling of supplemental enhancement information

Examples of video encoding methods and apparatus and video decoding methods and apparatus are described. An example method of video processing includes performing a conversion between a video and a bitstream of the video according to a rule. At least one of the one or more parameter sets of the bitstream includes a general syntax structure including timing and hypothetical reference decoder (HRD) parameters. The rule specifies that a first syntax flag is not included in the general syntax structure in response to (1) a second syntax flag specifying that network abstraction layer (NAL) HRD parameters are not present in the general syntax structure, and (2) a third syntax flag specifying that video coding layer (VCL) HRD parameters are not present in the general syntax structure, where the first syntax flag specifies that same picture-level timing information applies to all output layer sets in the bitstream.

Identification of inter-layer reference pictures in coded video

Methods and apparatus for video processing are described. The video processing may include video encoding, video decoding or video transcoding. One example video processing method includes performing a conversion between a video including one or more pictures including one or more slices and a coded representation of the video, wherein the coded representation conforms to a format rule that specifies that a condition of a field in the coded representation controls a constraint on a slice type or whether the slice type is included in the coded representation for a video slice, wherein the field includes a general constraint flag, a network abstraction layer unit type or whether the video slice is in a first video picture of an access unit.

An example method of video processing includes performing a conversion between a video and a bitstream of the video. The bitstream conforms to a format rule. The bitstream includes one or more layers including one or more picture units (PUs). The format rule specifies that, responsive to a first PU in a layer of the bitstream following an end of sequence network abstraction layer (EOS NAL) unit in the layer in a decoding order, a variable of the first PU is set to a particular value, wherein the variable indicates whether the first PU is a coded layer video sequence start (CLVSS) PU.

A method of decoding is provided. The method includes receiving a video bitstream including a picture unit (PU), the PU including a picture header (PH) network abstraction layer (NAL) unit having a picture header NAL unit type (PH_NUT) and an associated video coding layer (VCL) NAL unit, the PH_NUT signifying that a layer identifier (ID) of the PH NAL unit is equal to a layer ID of the associated video coding layer (VCL) NAL unit and a temporal ID of the PH NAL unit is equal to a temporal ID of the PU; and decoding a coded picture from the PU to obtain a decoded picture.

Signaling of picture header in video coding

A method of decoding a coded video bitstream implemented by a video decoder is provided. The method includes parsing a flag; parsing candidates for a first reference picture list structure; determining that candidates for a second reference picture list structure are not present in the coded video bitstream and inferring that the candidates for the second reference picture list structure are the same as the candidates for the first reference picture list structure when the flag has a first value; determining that the candidates for the second reference picture list structure are present in the coded video bitstream when the flag has a second value; generating a reference picture list using the candidates for the first reference picture list structure or the candidates for the second reference picture list structure; and performing inter-prediction based on the reference picture list to generate a reconstructed block.
