A liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal layer sandwiched between a first substrate and a second substrate; a first light shielding layer that is provided on the first substrate; a first insulating layer provided on the first light shielding layer; a gate electrode that is provided on the first insulating layer; a second insulating layer provided on the gate electrode; a semiconductor layer that is provided on the second insulating layer, and is provided for each pixel; a source electrode and a drain electrode that partially overlap with the semiconductor layer; a pixel electrode that is provided on the second insulating layer; a third insulating layer provided on the semiconductor layer and the pixel electrode; and a common electrode that is provided on the third insulating layer, and includes a slit.

Liquid crystal display device

A liquid crystal display device includes: first and second substrates; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the first and second substrates; a switching element provided on the first substrate; a first pixel electrode provided on the first substrate and electrically connected to a drain electrode of the switching element; an insulating film provided on the first pixel electrode; and a common electrode provided on the insulating film and including a first slit. The first pixel electrode extends in a first direction. The first slit extends in the first direction and is located above the first pixel electrode. In a planar view, both edges of the first pixel electrode in a second direction intersecting the first direction are located inside the first slit.

A liquid crystal display includes: a first substrate and a second substrate which face each other and which are provided such that light emitted from a light source is obliquely incident on a surface of each of the first and second substrates; a liquid crystal layer provided between the first substrate and the second substrate; a switching element provided on the first substrate and including a gate electrode; a first light-shielding film provided above the switching element, with a first insulating layer interposed; a pixel electrode provided above the first light-shielding film, with a second insulating layer interposed; and a second light-shielding film provided on the second substrate and in a boundary region between adjacent pixels, and located above the switching element.

A liquid crystal display apparatus includes an auxiliary electrode between adjacent first and second scan signal lines, first and second thin film transistors with gate electrodes connected to the first and second scan signal lines, respectively, first and second pixel electrodes connected to one of a source electrode and a drain electrode of the first and second thin film transistors, respectively, a data signal line that is connected to the other of the source electrode and the drain electrode of the first and second thin film transistors, and a common electrode facing the pixel electrodes via a liquid crystal layer. The first and second pixel electrodes are adjacent along the data signal line. A potential difference between the auxiliary and common electrodes is greater than a potential difference between the first pixel electrode and the common electrode and a potential difference between the second pixel electrode and the common electrode.

Liquid crystal display apparatus

A liquid crystal display element includes a thin-film transistor in which one of source and drain electrodes is connected to a pixel electrode, and an auxiliary capacitance electrode that forms an auxiliary capacitance together with the pixel electrode and at least partially overlaps with the thin-film transistor. The thin-film transistor includes a semiconductor layer, an anti-etching layer that is arranged in contact with the semiconductor layer and made of an insulative material, and a gate electrode that is arranged to interpose the semiconductor layer between the gate electrode itself and the anti-etching layer. A region in the auxiliary capacitance electrode that overlaps with the gate electrode has a length in a direction parallel to a channel length direction of the thin-film transistor that is shorter than a length of the gate electrode in this direction and longer than a length of the anti-etching layer in this direction.

A liquid crystal display device with multiple pixels includes a first sub-pixel including, a first liquid crystal capacitance between a common electrode and a first pixel electrode, and a first auxiliary capacitance between the first pixel electrode and a first auxiliary capacitance electrode; a second sub-pixel disposed including, a second liquid crystal capacitance between the common electrode and a second pixel electrode, a second auxiliary capacitance between the second pixel electrode and a second auxiliary capacitance electrode, and a step-up capacitance between the second pixel electrode and a step-up capacitance electrode; a first voltage application unit for applying a common first voltage to the common electrode, the first auxiliary capacitance electrode, and the second auxiliary capacitance electrode; and a second voltage application unit for applying a second voltage, which is different from the first voltage, to the step-up capacitance electrode.

A display device includes a substrate having a display area and a non-display area. A plurality of pixel electrodes are arrayed in a matrix within the display area on the substrate. A plurality of scanning lines are provided to supply a scanning signal to the switching thin-film transistors. A plurality of data lines are provided to supply a data signal to the switching thin-film transistors. The non-display area of the substrate includes a driver forming area in which a driver for driving at least one of the scanning line and the data line is to be mounted, and a static-electricity protecting circuit is provided in the driver forming area.
