Embodiments of a vehicle interior system are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, the system includes a base with a curved surface, and a display or touch panel disposed on the curved surface. The display includes a cold-bent glass substrate with a thickness of 1.5 mm or less and a first radius of curvature of 20 mm or greater, and a display module and/or touch panel attached to the glass substrate having a second radius of curvature that is within 10% of the first radius of curvature. Methods for forming such systems are also disclosed.

Vehicle interior systems having a curved cover glass and display or touch panel and methods for forming the same

A process comprises cold-forming a flat glass substrate into a non-planar shape using a die. The cold-formed glass substrate is bonded to a non-planar rigid support structure at a plurality of non-planar points using the die. Bonding methods include injection molding the non-planar rigid support structure, and direct bonding. An article is also provided, comprising a cold-formed glass substrate having opposing major surfaces and a curved shape, the opposing major surfaces comprising a surface stress that differ from one another. The cold-formed glass substrate is attached to a rigid support structure having the curved shape. The cold-formed glass substrate includes an open region not in direct contact with the non-planar rigid support structure, and the open region has a curved shape maintained by the non-planar rigid support structure.

Laminating thin strengthened glass to curved molded plastic surface for decorative and display cover application

Embodiments of a decorated glass are provided. The decorated glass includes a transparent substrate having a first major surface and a second major surface. The second major surface is opposite the first major surface. The decorated glass also includes a black ink layer disposed on the second major surface in a display region. The black ink layer has a transmission coefficient of between 0.2 and 0.85 with respect to incident light having a wavelength of 400 nm to 700 nm. The decorated glass has 2% or less of sparkle when measured from the first major surface via pixel power deviation reference (PPDr).

Embodiments of a deadfront article for a display are disclosed herein. The deadfront article includes a cover structure having: an inner surface; an outer surface opposite the inner surface; a glass layer located between the inner surface and the outer surface; and a first layer of light transmitting ink or pigment located between the inner surface of the cover structure and the glass layer. The deadfront article also includes a light guide layer having: an inner surface; and an outer surface facing toward the inner surface of the cover structure. A light extraction layer located on at least one of the inner surface and the outer surface of the light guide layer.

Light guide-based deadfront for display, related methods and vehicle interior systems

Embodiments of a vehicle interior system and methods for forming the same are disclosed. A glass substrate is bent to a curved shape within a mold cavity, and a liquid polymer material is delivered to the mold and is in contact with the curved glass substrate. The liquid polymer is solidified to form a polymer frame that engages the bent glass substrate, and the engagement between the frame and the glass substrate holds the glass substrate in the bent shape. The temperature of the glass substrate during the bending process and formation of the frame are maintained below the glass transition temperature of the glass substrate.

Vehicle interior systems having a cold-bent glass substrate and methods for forming the same

Embodiments of a deadfront configured to hide a display when the display is not active are provided. The deadfront includes a substrate having a first major surface and a second major surface. The second major surface is opposite the first major surface. The deadfront also includes a neutral density filter disposed on the second major surface of the transparent substrate and an ink layer disposed on the neutral density filter. The deadfront defines at least one display region in which the deadfront transmits at least 60% of incident light and at least one non-display region in which the deadfront transmits at most 5% of incident light. A contrast sensitivity between each of the at least one display region and each of the at least one non-display region is at least 15 when the display is not active.

Embodiments of this disclosure pertain to a vehicle interior system comprising a base having a base surface; and a glass article coupled to the surface, wherein the glass article comprises a first portion comprising a first elastically deformed surface forming a first concave shape with a first radius of curvature from about 20 mm to about 2000 mm, and a second elastically deformed surface directly opposite the first elastically deformed surface that forms a second convex shape, wherein the second elastically deformed surface has a surface compressive stress that is less than a compressive stress at the first elastically deformed surface, and a second portion adjacent the first portion, wherein the second portion is substantially planar portion or curved.

Cold forming of complexly curved glass articles

Described herein are deadfront assemblies that are configured to exhibit variable transmission and reflection performance attributes. The deadfront assemblies described herein comprise a first ink layer, an intermediate layer, and a second ink layer. The intermediate layer is disposed between the first and second ink layers and is configured to reflect light that is transmitted through the first ink layer back through the first ink layer so that one or more colors of the ink in the first ink layer is visible in the reflected light. The second ink layer is configured to counteract deviations in optical transmission caused by the first ink layer so that light transmitted through the deadfront assembly is not perceptively altered in color. Overlapping regions of the first and second ink layers comprise inverse appearance attributes so that light output from a light source and transmitted through the deadfront assembly has a desired appearance.

Deadfront articles with multi-layer optical structures and associated methods

Embodiments of a vehicle interior system are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, the system includes a base with a curved surface, a cold-formed glass substrate with a thickness of 1.5 mm or less and a first radius of curvature of 500 mm or greater, and an adhesive between the curved surface and the glass substrate. Methods for forming such systems are also disclosed. The systems and methods include components and/or design modifications or methods for reducing stress in the adhesive.

Vehicle interior systems having a curved cover glass with improved reliability and methods for forming the same

Embodiments of a deadfront article are provided. The deadfront article includes a substrate having a first surface and a second surface. The deadfront article also includes a semi-transparent layer disposed onto the second surface of the substrate. The semi-transparent layer has a region of a solid color or of a design of two or more colors, and the semi-transparent layer has a first optical density. Further, the deadfront article includes a contrast layer disposed onto the region. The contrast layer is configured to enhance visibility of the color(s) of the semi-transparent layer.

Deadfront for displays including a touch panel on decorative glass and related methods

Glass articles including one or more 3D printed surface features attached to a surface of a substrate at a contact interface between the 3D printed surface feature and the surface. The 3D printed surface feature(s) include a glass or a glass-ceramic, a compressive stress region at an exterior perimeter surface of the 3D printed surface feature(s), and a central tension region interior of the compressive stress region. The 3D printed surface feature(s) may be formed of a contiguous preformed material 3D printed on a surface of a substrate. Embodiments of a curved vehicle display including a display module having a display surface, a curved glass substrate disposed on the display surface having a first major surface, a second major surface having a second surface area, and a thickness in a range from 0.05 mm to 2 mm, wherein the second major surface comprises a first radius of curvature of 200 mm or greater, wherein, when the display module emits a light, the light transmitted through the glass substrate has a substantially uniform color along 75% or more of the second surface area, when viewed at a viewing angle at a distance of 0.5 meters from the second surface. Curved vehicle displays

Embodiments of an article comprising a cold-formed glass substrate in a curved shape, a plurality of separate mechanical retainers, and a frame are disclosed. The cold-formed glass substrate has a first major surface, and a second major surface opposing the first major surface. In one more embodiments, the plurality of separate mechanical retainers are attached to the second major surface of the cold-formed glass substrate. The mechanical retainers may be attached to the frame to define a position for each of the plurality of mechanical retainers, such that the mechanical retainers define the curved shape. Embodiments of processes to form such articles are also provided. Such processes can include attaching a plurality of separate mechanical retainers to a flexible glass substrate such that the glass substrate maintains its flexibility, and attaching the mechanical retainers to a frame, such that the mechanical retainers attached to the frame define a cold-formed curved shape for the flexible glass substrate.
