A sheet feeding apparatus includes a first detection device that outputs a first signal upon detecting a stacked sheet and outputs a second signal upon detecting no sheet, and a second detection device that outputs a third signal when a sheet stacking member is above a predetermined position and outputs a fourth signal in a case where the stacking member is below the predetermined position A control unit controls movement of sheet stacking member by restricting movement of the stacking member when the second signal is output and the third signal is output when power of the sheet feeding apparatus is turned on. The second detection device includes a switch that emits the third signal while abutting a moving member that moves with the sheet stacking member and emits the fourth signal while being separated from the moving member.

A slide cassette is slidably provided in a main cassette of a sheet cassette. When a sheet with a size larger than that of a sheet which may be stored in the main cassette is stored, the slide cassette is sled and moved to extend the sheet cassette. There is provided a fixing portion which may fix the slide cassette and the main cassette in a state in which the sheet cassette is in a shortened or an extended state by sliding the slide cassette. The fixing portion releases the fixing by an operation in which the slide cassette is sled in a shortening direction or extending direction.

A sheet transport apparatus which includes a sheet transport path for transporting a sheet, and a regulation member. The regulation member is provided in the sheet transport path, and is brought into contact with a swelling portion occurring on a surface of an envelope in the event that the envelope is transported as the sheet, such that the swelling portion can be pressed.
