A method of manufacturing a superconductor wire which comprises: rolling a polycrystalline metallic substrate; heating the rolled polycrystalline metallic substrate at a temperature of 900&deg; C. or more in a non-oxidizing atmosphere, whereby obtaining a rolled textured structure which is oriented such that the &lsqb;100&rsqb; plane thereof is parallel with a rolled plane and the <001> axis thereof is parallel with a rolled direction; heating the polycrystalline metallic substrate of the rolled textured structure at a temperature of 1,000&deg; C. or more in an oxidizing atmosphere, whereby forming an oxide crystal layer consisting essentially of an oxide of the polycrystalline metal; and forming an oxide superconductor layer on the oxide crystal layer.

Method of manufacturing an oxide superconductor wire

A superconductor wire comprising a plurality of Nb--Ti superconductor filaments embedded in a copper matrix made of a copper alloy other than a two element copper alloy selected from the group consisting of a Cu--Ni alloy, a Cu--Sn alloy and a Cu--Mn alloy, wherein the resistivity (Z) at room temperature of the copper matrix is 2.times.10.sup.-8 .OMEGA.m to 65.times.10.sup.-8 .OMEGA.m, and the distance between superconductor filaments is not less than 0.0625.times.1/.sqroot.Z nm. The superconductor wire has a high critical current density, a small AC loss and improved workability.

Superconductor wire

The present invention provides an Nb-Ti alloy type superconducting wire having a superconducting filament including a member made of Nb-Ti alloy and a pinning member made of Nb or Nb alloy having no superconducting properties under operating magnetic field, the Nb-Ti based alloy containing Ti in a content of 48 to 65% by weight and the superconducting filament containing Nb or an Nb alloy (A) in a ratio of 20 to 35% by volume. The present invention further provides an Nb-Ti alloy type superconducting wire having a superconducting filament including a member made of Nb-Ti alloy and a pinning member made of Ti or Ti alloy having a critical temperature lower than that of the Nb-Ti alloy and/or having no superconducting properties; the Nb-Ti based alloy containing Ti in a content of 25 to 45% by weight and the superconducting filament containing Ti or a Ti alloy in a ratio of 20 to 35% by volume.

The present invention provides a method of manufacturing superconductive products comprising heating a superconductive matter or incorporation including its precursor to a temperature higher than its or its precursor's melting point to melt it or its precursor, and then solidifying and cooling it in a direction in such a way that it is re-crystalized to have an orientation in the longitudinal direction of its incorporation.

Multifilamentary oxide superconducting wires and method of manufacturing

A primary coil assembly for a superconducting linear induction motor is provided which is arranged opposite to a secondary conductor for exerting a relative thrust on the secondary conductor when energized. The primary coil assembly comprises a plurality of coil units, each including a nonmagnetic and nonconductive bobbin, an alternating-current superconducting wire wound around the bobbin, and nonmagnetic and nonconductive spacers interposed between adjacent turns of the superconducting wire being adjacent to each other in an outward direction with respect to the axis of the bobbin or adjacent to each other in the width direction of the bobbin, for providing a clearance therebetween. The coil units have substantially identical structure and shape and are spaced at a predetermined distance from each other.

Primary coil assembly for a superconducting linear induction motor

There is provided a superconducting strand for alternating current which is formed by stranding 13 or more superconducting wires having a diameter smaller than that of a non-magnetic core member in a single-layered form on the outer peripheral surface of the core member and which can efficiently remove heat caused by AC loss, avoid a quenching phenomenon and stably maintain the superconducting state. Preferably, an electrically insulataive braided layer formed of polyester fiber is interposed between the core member and the stranded superconducting wires and stable insulation can be maintained therebetween, thereby preventing flow of coupling current caused by defective insulation and suppressing partial heat generation. The superconducting wire contains a large number of NbTi superconducting filaments and a non-magnetic stainless steel wire can be preferably used for the core member.

Superconducting strand for alternating current

Disclosed is a method of manufacturing an oxide superconductor containing at least an alkaline earth metal and copper. This method comprises the steps of heating a material substance containing elements constituting the oxide superconductor, in an atmosphere having an oxygen partial pressure of at most 50 Torr at a temperature ranging from 500.degree. C. to 1000.degree. C., and then heating the material substance in an oxygen-containing atmosphere. Also disclosed herein is a method of manufacturing composite oxide powder which is the precursor of the oxide superconductor. This method comprises the steps of heating the material substance in an atmosphere having an oxygen partial pressure of at most 50 Torr at a temperature ranging from 500.degree. C. to 1000.degree. C., and crushing the material substance into powder.

A superconducting wire containing a multifilamentary superconducting alloy, comprising at least one composite containing a first matrix in which a plurality of superconducting alloy filaments have been arranged and a second matrix in which at least one composite is embedded; wherein said first matrix consists essentially of a metal or an alloy which does not form any intermetallic compound with the superconducting alloy filament. As the superconducting alloy filament, a Nb-Ti alloy filament may preferably be selected; the first matrix may preferably consist of one selected from the group of Nb, Ta and a Nb-Ta alloy; and the second matrix may preferably consist of Cu, A Cu-Ni alloy, Al, or an Al alloy.
