The method includes: a first step of obtaining a first index value, corresponding to a resistance value of a first series circuit with a correlative relationship, the first series circuit having a lowest resistance value; a second step of obtaining a second index value corresponding to a resistance value of a second series circuit with a correlative relationship, the second series circuit having a highest resistance value; a third step of performing normal charging, in which the assembled battery is charged with a first amount of charge corresponding to the first index value; and a fourth step of performing refresh charging, in which the assembled battery is charged with a second amount of charge corresponding to the second index value.

This storage battery comprises a plurality of monoblock containers united to each other with space provided between the adjacent monoblock containers and one common cover to seal the openings of those monoblock containers. Each monoblock container has a plurality of cell compartments separated from each other by partitions. Each of those cell compartments houses an assembly element comprising a plurality of positive electrode plates and negative electrode plates stacked with separators placed between them.

A lead-acid storage battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode and an electrolyte material. The foregoing negative electrode has a first grid with a first grid geometry and a first active material provided on the above first grid. A lead-acid storage battery uses as a current collector an expanded grid produced by processing a belt shaped material formed of lead or lead alloys. Strand of a grid for negative electrodes have a twist. The extent of the negative electrode's grid is larger than that of the positive electrode's grid. Apparatus for expanding a metal sheet

A slit is formed in a clad sheet integrating a thin layer of lead alloy containing at least one of tin and antimony at least on one side ot a parent material made of lead or lead-calcium system alloy. The clad sheet is processed by expanding to twist the rib of the formed grid, and the thin layer of the lead alloy containing at least one of tin and antimony is spirally oriented in multiple directions, as the positive electrode plate. An expanded grid is thus formed. In this manner charging reception characteristics after long-term storage following deep discharge at high temperature ot a lead-acid battery are improved.
