The composite layer contains inorganic solid particles and a polymeric material. A peel strength &#x3c3;1 at a first interface between the active material-containing layer and the composite layer and a peel strength &#x3c3;2 at a second interface between the active material-containing layer and the current collecting layer satisfy a relationship of &#x3c3;1&#x3e;&#x3c3;2, and &#x3c3;2&#x2264;1 N/cm.

According to one embodiment, there is provided a secondary battery including a negative electrode, a positive electrode, a first electrolyte, a second electrolyte, and a hydrogel electrolyte. The first electrolyte is in contact with at least a part of the negative electrode. The second electrolyte is in contact with at least a part of the positive electrode. The hydrogel electrolyte includes a gel having a chemically crosslinked structure. A first electrolyte composition of the first electrolyte is different from a second electrolyte composition of the second electrolyte. At least one of the first electrolyte and the second electrolyte includes an aqueous solvent, the aqueous solvent including water. At least a part of at least one of the negative electrode and the positive electrode overlaps at least a part of the hydrogel electrolyte.

According to one embodiment, provided is a secondary battery including a negative electrode containing a titanium-containing oxide, a positive electrode, a separator between the negative electrode and the positive electrode, a first aqueous electrolyte, a second aqueous electrolyte, and a third aqueous electrolyte. The first aqueous electrolyte is held in the negative electrode and contains 0.001% by mass to 0.5% by mass of zinc ions. The second aqueous electrolyte is held in the separator and contains 1% by mass to 5% by mass of a first compound that includes a hydrophobic portion and a hydrophilic portion. The third aqueous electrolyte is held in the positive electrode.

The composite membrane includes a substrate layer, a first composite layer, and a second composite layer. The first composite layer is located on one surface of the substrate layer. The first composite layer has a first surface and a second surface. The first surface is in contact with the substrate layer. The second surface is located on an opposite side to the first surface. According to one embodiment, a battery includes a container member, a separator, a first electrode, a first electrolyte, a second electrode and a second electrolyte. The container member has a housing space in the interior, and the separator is housed in the housing space of the container member. The separator includes a bag, and the first electrode is housed in an interior of the bag. The first electrolyte is retained on the first electrode in the interior of the bag. The second electrode is located outside the bag in the housing space. The second electrolyte is retained by the second electrode outside the bag in the housing space.

An electrode comprises a current collector; and an active material-containing layer having active materials on the current collector. The active material-containing layer has a first surface contacting the current collector and a second surface which is opposite side of the first surface. At least one part of the second surface is covered by a compound containing Zn. When an image of the second surface is taken by Scanning Electron Microscope, the image is divided into 100 blocks, a ratio of existence of blocks having hexagonal platelet shaped compound containing Zn to the 100 blocks is calculated, and the ratio of existence of blocks is calculated with respect to 10 images, an average of the ratio of existence of blocks with respect to the 10 images is 20% or less (including 0).

In one embodiment, a secondary battery is provided, which includes an electrolytic solution, and a positive electrode and a negative electrode which are immersed in the electrolytic solution. The electrolytic solution contains water, an electrolyte salt, and at least one kind of an organic solvent with a relative permittivity of not more than 42. The relative permittivity of the electrolytic solution fractionated when converted according to a volume fraction is not more than 78.50.

According to one embodiment, there is provided a secondary battery including a positive electrode, a negative electrode, and an aqueous electrolyte. The positive electrode includes a positive electrode active material. The negative electrode includes a negative electrode active material and an additive resin containing a hydroxyl group unit and a first unit. The first unit consists of at least one of a butyral unit and an acetal unit. A content ratio of a content of the first unit contained in the additive resin to a content of the hydroxyl group unit contained in the additive resin is in a range of 1.2 to 18.

According to an embodiment, a secondary battery is provided. The secondary battery includes a positive electrode, a negative electrode, separator, and an aqueous electrolyte. The separator is located at least between the positive electrode and the negative electrode. The separator includes a composite film. The composite film includes a mixture of a polymeric material and ion conductive solid electrolyte particles having alkali metal ions conductivity. The polymeric material includes a polymer comprising a monomer unit. The monomer unit is a hydrocarbon with a functional group including at least one element selected from the group consisting of oxygen (O), sulfur (S), nitrogen (N), and fluorine (F). A ratio of the polymer in the polymeric material is not less than 70 mol %.

A secondary battery including an aqueous electrolyte, a positive electrode, and a negative electrode. The negative electrode includes a negative electrode active material which contains a Ti-containing composite oxide. At least one element A selected from Hg, Pb, Zn, and Bi is present on a surface of the negative electrode. An average of molar ratios (A/(A+Ti)) of the element A ranges from 5% to 40%. Each of the molar ratios is a molar amount of the element A to a sum between the molar amount of the element A and a molar amount of Ti on the surface of the negative electrode, according to scanning electron microscopy-energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy.

According to one embodiment, a secondary battery is provided. The separator includes a porous self-supporting film, a solid electrolyte layer, and a first binder. The solid electrolyte layer is provided on one main surface of the porous self-supporting film. The porous self-supported film and the solid electrolyte layer are adhered with the first binder. The first binder exists on both of the one main surface and another main surface of the porous self-supporting film. The solid electrolyte layer includes solid electrolyte particles and a second binder. The solid electrolyte particles have alkali metal ions conductivity. The polymeric material of the second bonder is a same as the polymeric material of the first material.
