A writing instrument operated by a finger at a holding position comprising a hollow body for containing at least one refill, in which each refill is always forced toward a retracted position in the hollow body, and is moved between the writing position and a resting position by means of a cam mechanism which is operated by an actuating knob provided at a position near the portion of the hollow body to be grasped by a user's finger-tips.

Writing instrument operated by a finger at a holding position

A writing intent has a body tube and a writing member slidably disposed therein, the writing member having a writing end and ink therein. A retraction and advancement mechanism is provide for advancing and retracting the writing member between an operation position and storage position. A sleeve is provided in a front portion of the body and has a scaling cover hinged thereon. The writing member passes through the sleeve and is retractable therein. A mechanism is provided which closes the sealing cover on the sleeve when the writing member is in a retracted position and seals the writing end of the writing member via elastically deformable contact therewith.

Capless writing tool

A cap-less writing instrument having a mechanism which prevents the writing member from drying out. The writing instrument includes a hollow body; a writing member having a writing tip accommodated in the hollow body; a seal for sealing the writing tip, the seal including a seal cylinder provided with an opening at a front end thereof, a cover for sealing the opening of the seal cylinder, and a sealing member provided between the seal cylinder and the writing member; a mechanism for moving the writing member from the writing position to a retracted position; and a connector for connecting the writing member to the cover while allowing the writing member to move the writing position and causing the cover to close the opening of the seal cylinder. The connector is either a thread-like member or a bendable bar-like member.

A valve operating mechanism comprises a valve having a valve member and a valve seat, the valve seat having a fluid passage hole is arranged at an end of a fluid chamber containing fluid such as liquid or gas, the valve member which is axially moved relative to the valve seat, to thereby control the passage of fluid, an axially movable member spaced a certain distance from the valve seat, radially displaceable members such as thread-shaped members, linear members or bar-shaped members through which the axially movable member is interconnected with a rear part of the body, and means for causing, when a grasping force is applied to the radially displaceable members the valve seat moves relative to the valve member, thus opening the valve, and for causing, when the grasping force is eliminated, the valve seat comes into abutment against the valve member, thus closing the valve.

A writing instrument includes a hollow body, a depression mechanism including a grip unit having an outer periphery radially displaceable in accordance with a gripping force exerted by writer's fingers, the depression mechanism including an axially displaceable member which moves axially in accordance with an increase of a pressure of due to radial displacement of the grip unit and which returns to its original position in accordance with a decrease of a pressure of the grip unit, the axially displaceable member being provided in association with the grip unit, a writing member including lead with a writing tip, and a writing member actuating mechanism for moving the writing tip to a writing position. The writing member actuating mechanism includes a normally open chuck, a lead holder positioned between the chuck and tip for constantly holding the lead, and an axially moveable tightening mechanism for engaging with and disengaging from the chuck and disposed on a side of the chuck opposite the writing tip. The chuck moves backwardly relative to the lead holder by a predetermined distance at the start of application of a gripping force, and advances together with the lead relative to the lead holder at the start of release of the gripping force.

A writing instrument comprises a barrel having a front opening (216), a writing member (217) having a writing tip (220) on a front end thereof and disposed in the barrel for back-and-forth movement therein, a mechanism disposed between said barrel and the writing member (217) for locking the writing member (217) in an advanced position and returning the writing member (217) in a retracted position, a sealing body (206) pivotable about a single point in the vicinity of the opening (216) for opening and closing the writing tip (220), bias spring (213) disposed between the sealing body (206) and the barrel for normally urging the sealing body (206) to seal the writing tip (216), the writing member (217) pushing aside the sealing body (206) to release the writing tip against a force tending to seal the latter, the writing tip (220) being prevented from contacting the sealing body (206) when the writing member (217) advances, and a seal member for providing a seal between the barrel and the writing member (217) at a position behind the sealing body (216).

A mechanical pencil comprising a pencil barrel, a cam cylinder mounted in the pencil barrel at a front portion thereof and having a cam wall formed on an inner circumferential surface, a cylindrical slide cam engaged with the cam wall for back-and-forth movement therein, a rotatable cam disposed in front of the slide cam and having a central hole, an inner fitting and a clamp support connected together and disposed in front of the rotatable cam, a pusher for pushing the slide cam, a spring for urging the inner fitting and the clamp support to move backwardly, the inner fitting, a lead holder mounted in the inner fitting for holding a lead with a light force, a cylindrical clamp disposed behind the lead holder and movable back and forth by a slight interval, a chuck fitted in the clamp, a lead pipe connected to a rear end of the chuck and having a diameter small enough to allow passage therethrough of one lead at a time, the lead pipe extending through the rotatable cam and the slide cam, a lead casing connected to a rear end of the lead pipe, another spring for urging the interconnected chuck, lead pipe and lead casing to move backwardly, and a stop portion for preventing the chuck, the lead pipe and the lead casing from being retracted beyond a certain interval.

A writing instrument such as a ball point or felt tip pen is provided with a seal member selectively engageable with the writing tip, the sealing member being movable from a position plugging the pen through hole to a position allowing the front end of the writing member to freely pass through the through hole for writing.

Writing instrument with sealing tip

A mechanical pencil including a main body divided into first and second members which are rotatable relative to one another. An inner mechanism is provided, primarily in the first member of the body, including a chuck for gripping leads, a chuck tightening member for tightening the chuck disposed around the chuck, a chuck tightening member receiver, and a lead case coupled at a front end portion to the chuck. In a preferred embodiment, a push member is coupled at a front end to the lead case while a spring biases the inner mechanism rearwardly. A mechanism is provided for converting the relative rotation of the first and second members to axial movement of the inner mechanism between retracted and writing positions.

Mechanical pencil

A rotational slide type mechanical pencil having front and rear relatively rotatable bodies with a lead case disposed therein. A chuck which is rigidly coupled to the case firmly grips the lead in writing positions of the pencil. A chuck tightening member is provided having a chuck receiving portion which engages and tightens the chuck. A slider which is movable back and forth through a predetermined distance and is disposed forwardly of the chuck frictionally grips the lead. A conversion mechanism is provided for converting rotational movement of the rear axial body to linear movement of the chuck tightening member whereby the rotational movement of the second body moves the slider forwardly extending a portion of the slider through the front opening of an axial hollow body and extending the lead therethrough.

A mechanical pencil in which the lead is advanced by squeezing a cylindrical depression member provided at the position of the writer's fingers during normal writing operations. The pencil includes a hollow body with front and rear axial sleeves. A chuck is disposed within the pencil body which has a resiliency which urges the chuck to open outwardly at the front end thereof. A slider including a lead holding member for lightly holding the lead is slidably positioned at the tip of the front axial sleeve. Means is provided for transmitting movement from the depression member, which is formed of a resilient material flush with the cylindrical surface of the pencil body, for transmitting movement from the depression member to the chuck. A lead casing means is disposed in the rear axial sleeve which in some embodiments has the dual function of transmitting movement from a push button provided at the rear of the pencil to the chuck for advancing the lead in a conventional manner.

Mechanical pencil construction wherein the operational movements to advance the lead are accomplished by providing one or more elastically deformable ribs or spring biased cam members that extend outwardly through axial slots in the pencil body in the normal finger gripping area. The radially inward depression of such ribs or cam members by the writer's fingers is converted to axial motion within the pencil, to thereby effect the necessary lead gripping and advancing operations.

A mechanical pencil having a main hollow body including a first body member and a second body member with a mouth opening at an end and the first body member being rotatable with respect to the second body member and the first and second body members engaged with each other. A slider is retractable from the opening of the main hollow body and has a lead retainer for frictionally gripping lead and a lead case containing extra leads therein is disposed to the rear and is so biased. A lead gripping chuck is connected at the rear end thereof to said lead case and chuck tightening mechanism receives and tightens the chuck and advancing the chuck relative to the mechanism to supply a new lead having a predetermined length from the opening of the slider. The rotational movement of the first body member is transferred to reciprocating movement of the chuck tightening mechanism so that a new lead is supplied from the opening of the main hollow body by the rotation of the first body member.
