A position indicator includes: a core body disposed within a casing such that a tip thereof projects from one opening of the casing; a printed board on which a circuit element for detecting pressing force applied to the tip is disposed; and a pen pressure detecting module formed by arranging, in an axial direction, plural parts for detecting a displacement corresponding to the pressing force. The plural parts are arranged within a hollow portion of a cylindrical holder portion housed within the casing. The holder portion has an opening portion in a side circumferential surface thereof. The opening portion is opened in a direction perpendicular to the axial direction. At least one of the parts is/are housed into the hollow portion through the opening portion. The holder portion includes a locking portion configured to prevent the at least one of the parts from falling out through the opening portion.

Position indicator

A position indicator is provided, which includes a chassis that accommodates a holder therein, wherein the holder in turn accommodates various elements therein. The holder includes a core body engaging portion configured to hold a core body, a component disposing portion in which one or more pressure-sensitive components are disposed in an axial direction so as to receive a pressing pressure applied to the core body, and a printed wiring board mounting portion for being engaged with and mounting a printed wiring board with a longitudinal direction of the printed wiring board as the axial direction. The core body and the one or more pressure-sensitive components are held by the core body engaging portion and the component disposing portion in such a way that their central positions are aligned with each other in a predetermined position.

Disclosed herein is a position indicator that includes: an enclosure forming a hollow and rod-shaped tubular body; a substrate disposed in the hollow portion of the enclosure and having a circuit configured to process signals exchanged with a position detection sensor; and a film-shaped capacitor having first and second conductor layers. The first conductor layer is formed on one side of a sheet-shaped dielectric, and the second conductor layer is formed on another side of the sheet-shaped dielectric and is opposed to the first conductor layer with the sheet-shaped dielectric provided therebetween. The film-shaped capacitor is fastened to the substrate in such a manner as to make up part of said circuit, and the size of an area over which the first and second conductor layers of the film-shaped capacitor are opposed is changeable by changing the size of the film-shaped capacitor to specify a constant for said circuit.

Electronic circuit and position indicator

An indicator operation detecting device includes a sensor including two sets of electrodes intersecting each other, an operation detecting circuit configured to detect a position indicated by an indicator (e.g., a finger) with respect to the sensor as a coordinate value on predetermined coordinate axes (e.g., X and Y axes), and a surface operation part disposed to receive an operation (e.g., touching) of the indicator with respect to the sensor. The surface operation part includes a first input part having a curved surface and employing a corresponding area of the sensor as a detection area, and a second input part having a linear region and employing a corresponding linear area of the sensor surrounded by the area for the first input part as a detection area. A surface shape of the linear region is different from the curved surface of the first input part to be tactilely distinguishable.

Indicator operation detecting device

A position detecting sensor is configured by providing a dielectric member having flexibility between first conductors and second conductors and providing spacers for separating the first conductors or the second conductors from the dielectric member by a determined gap. When a pressing force is applied by an indicator (e.g., a finger or a pen) on the position detecting sensor, the first conductor and the second conductor come to abut each other, with the dielectric member interposed therebetween. Further, an abutting area (contact area) between the dielectric member and the conductor changes (e.g., increases) according to the pressing force applied by the indicator. Thus, capacitance of the capacitor formed between the first conductor and the second conductor is largely changed, to allow detection of a position indicated by the indicator as well as the pressing force applied at the indicated position with high sensitivity and high accuracy.

Position detecting sensor, position detecting device, and position detecting method

A position pointer is disclosed, including a housing, a substantially bar-like rod accommodated in the housing such that one end thereof projects to the outer side of the housing, and a variable capacitor having a capacitance value which varies in response to external force applied thereto through the rod. The variable capacitor includes a dielectric member having a first face portion and a second face portion opposite from the first face portion, a terminal member configured to engage with the first face portion of the dielectric member, an electrode section disposed in an opposing relationship to the second face portion of the dielectric member and including a conductive member having a contact area with the second face portion that varies in response to the external force, and an elastic member configured to bias the conductive member in a direction in which the conductive member is spaced away from the second face portion.

Position pointer, variable capacitor and inputting apparatus

A pen type coordinate indicator for a position input device is provided, which is capable of widening a detection range of a pressing pressure (pen pressure) while preventing erroneous (false) detection. A coil spring (i.e., a first elastic body) and a silicon rubber (i.e., a second elastic body) are interposed between an end surface of a first ferrite core, around which a coil connected to a resonance circuit is wound, and an end surface of a second ferrite core, within the pen. The first and second elastic bodies operate to controllably change (narrow) the distance between the two end faces in accordance with the pressure applied to the pen tip. As a result, an inductance value of the coil wound around the first ferrite core is controllably changed and thus a phase (frequency) of an electric wave transmitted from the resonance circuit to a position detector is controllably changed.

The present invention relates to a position pointing device comprising a housing () for receiving a circuit (), the circuit having a coil member () and a circuit component (), the coil member having a return wire () for forming the circuit, the housing having an inner surface, the inner surface having a groove () for receiving at least a portion of the return wire.

Position pointing device and hand-held electronic appliance

A position-detecting device detects a position pointed to by a position-pointing instrument and includes an operation panel detecting the position pointed to by the position-pointing instrument; and a manipulation-detecting unit located at at least one of the interior and the exterior of the operation panel, and detecting a manipulation by a second instrument other than the position-pointing instrument, or detecting a manipulation by both the position-pointing instrument and the second instrument.

Input system including position-detecting device

A position pointer is provided, which includes a housing having an opening, a rod disposed in the housing such that one end thereof projects from the opening, and a variable capacitor having a capacitance value which varies in response to pressure applied thereto through the rod. The capacitor includes a dielectric member having a first face portion opposite a second face portion, a first electrode section disposed on the first face portion of the dielectric member, a conductive member facing the second face portion of the dielectric member and forming a second electrode section when brought into contact with the second face portion of the dielectric member, and an elastic member coupled with the conductive member and adapted for biasing the conductive member away from the second face portion. A contact area between the conductive member and the second face portion varies depending on the pressure applied through the rod.

A position indicator for use with a digitizer is provided. The position indicator generates a response to an alternating field received from the digitizer. The position indicator includes a core formed of a composition including a soft magnetic metal powder mixed with a resin binder, and at least one coil provided around the core configured to generate the response to the alternating field based on the alternating field received from the digitizer.

A variable capacitor of a position indicator includes a dielectric, an electrode, a conductive member and a conductive portion. The dielectric has an upper surface and a lower surface opposite the upper surface. The electrode is provided on the upper surface of the dielectric. The conductive member is arranged so as to face the lower surface of the dielectric. The conductive portion is provided on the lower surface of the dielectric and is arranged so as to be electrically connectable to the conductive member. The conductive member is adapted to be elastically deformed when pressed against the lower surface by an external force, such that the capacitance of the variable capacitor changes according to a change of the external force.

A contact area between the conductive member and the second face portion varies depending on the pressure applied thereto through the rod.
