A plurality of images of an imaging subject are captured by using a plurality of cameras. An image acquisition unit acquires camera images obtained by cameras, which are configured to photograph a periphery of the vehicle. An image synthesizing unit projects data of the camera images on a virtual projection surface, which corresponds to the periphery of the vehicle, and forms a synthetic image showing the periphery of the vehicle, which is viewed from a virtual view point, by using the data projected on the projection surface. An image processing apparatus for processing an image according to one embodiment includes a generating unit, a display control unit, and a change receiving unit. The display control unit generates a synthetic image providing a view of a vehicle from a virtual viewpoint, based on a plurality of onboard camera images. The display control unit displays the generated synthetic image on a display unit. The change receiving unit receives a change in the relative positional relation between an image region that is based on one of the camera images and image regions that are based on the other camera images in the synthetic image. The generating unit generates a synthetic image, based on a changed positional relation every time a change in the positional relation is received.

The device detects locations of obstacle points and heights of the obstacle points. The heights of the obstacle points become higher as the obstacle points are farther from the own vehicle. When a gradient (GR=(YO&#x2212;YB)/(XO&#x2212;KB)) being a ratio of 'a subtraction value obtained by subtracting a height of a first obstacle point which is nearer from the own vehicle from a height of a second obstacle point which is farther from the own vehicle' to 'a distance between the two obstacle points along the predicted travel path' is greater than a threshold gradient GRth, the device displays an alert screen for the second obstacle point.

Periphery image display control device

A display screen of a display apparatus of an image display system includes a one-way mirror on a front side of the display screen. In an image processing apparatus, an image signal input obtains a captured image signal representing a captured image captured by a camera that captures an image of surroundings of the vehicle; an image generator that generates the display image from the captured image signal; an image output that outputs the display image to the display apparatus to cause the display image to be displayed on the display screen of the display apparatus; and a processor that controls the image generator to cause a partial region of the display image to be a black image so that a portion of the display screen at which the black image is displayed functions as a mirror.

An image acquisition part acquires a plurality of shot images captured by a plurality of cameras disposed on a vehicle, each of the plurality of shot images showing a periphery of the vehicle. An image composer projects data of the plurality of shot images onto a virtual projection surface corresponding to the periphery of the vehicle, and generates a composite image showing the periphery of the vehicle viewed from a virtual viewpoint, using the data projected onto the virtual projection surface. The image composer uses, as the virtual projection surface, a special virtual projection surface that includes a curved area having an upward convex curve. The curved area includes an area where a distance from a location of the vehicle is relatively short and a slope is relatively high, and another area where the distance from the location of the vehicle is relatively long and the slope is relatively low.

Image generator

An image generating apparatus generates a vicinity image including a vehicle and a vicinity of the vehicle viewed from a virtual viewpoint, based on a captured image, and generates a combined image by superimposing a vehicle image of the vehicle on the vicinity image. Then the image generating apparatus generates the vehicle image in a frame style that shows a body frame of the vehicle by frame lines and changes a style form in the frame style in accordance with a predetermined condition.

An on-vehicle device mounted on a vehicle includes an imaging unit that captures an image of a wide angle range through a curved light receiver, a moving-object detector that detects a moving object approaching an own vehicle from a mounting direction of the imaging unit and from any direction other than the mounting direction, based on the image captured by the imaging unit, a collision-risk determination unit that determines a degree of collision risk indicating a possibility of collision between the moving object detected by the moving-object detector and the own vehicle, and a moving-object warning unit that warns presence of the moving object included in an image portion in which a distortion of the image is a predetermined value or more, and warns the presence of the moving object according to the degree of collision risk determined by the collision-risk determination unit.
