The present invention relates to a solid preparation for oral hygiene, which comprises (a) 15 to 90 wt. % of a bubbling component and (b) 0.001 to 10 wt. % of an orally-usable medicinal component at an (a):(b) ratio ranging from 10:1 to 1000:1. Use of the preparation brings about a drastic improvement in the drug efficacy and moreover, breath is freshened by bubbling.

A composition for use in the oral cavity comprising a monophosphate represented by the following general formula (1), ##STR1## wherein R.sup.1 is a linear or branched alkyl or alkenyl group with 6 to 20 carbon atoms, and may have a substituted fluorine atom; one of X.sup.1 or X.sup.2 is a basic amino acid residual group, while the other is a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, an ammonium, an alkyl amine, an alkanol amine, or a basic amino acid residual group; and n is an integer from 0 to 4. The composition exhibits a superior action in protecting the tooth surface, is stable, and has a pleasant taste.

A method of desensitizing hypersensitive dentin is disclosed. The method comprises treating teeth of patients suffering from hypersensitive dentin with a colloid produced by mixing (a) a salt of polyvalent metal and (b) a polyol phosphate and/or a water-soluble salt thereof. The colloid can constrict or occlude dentinal tubules in the tooth dentin, exhibiting a continuous effect on the desensitization of hypersensitive dentin owing to the very high absorptivity of the colloid to teeth. The colloid does not impair taste, and does not produce precipitate near the neutral region, enabling it to be used safely.

Method of desensitizing hypersensitive dentin

A composition for use in the oral cavity comprising granules composed of a water-insoluble powders and a water-insoluble organic binder; and which granules have an apparent density of from 0.1 to 1.5 and collapse at a deformation rate of from 0.1 to 20% at a load of from 0.1 to 50 g per granule. A novel weakly acidic bath additive composition comprises carbon dioxide gas or a substance capable of producing carbon dioxide gas and an oily ingredient. The composition promotes the blood circulation due to the effect of carbon dioxide gas present in the bath water. Further, because of an oily ingredient, the skin is supplied by an oil and provided moistened feel after bathing.

A novel granular composition comprises a water-insoluble powder material and a water-insoluble inorganic binder capable of binding said water-soluble powder material. Granules in the composition have a specific diameter and collapse under a load of 0.1-10 g per one grain of granule. The granular composition is preferably incorporated into a dentifrice, and granules incorporated therein can be recognized as granules in the mouth, however, polishing effect of the teeth can be acknowledged with almost no unpleasant feel of foreign substance.

Typical examples of the moisturizer include organic acid salts such as sodium lactate; polyhydric alcohols such as propylene glycol; water-soluble polymers such as polyethylene glycol; and so on. The moisturizer functions to keep the carbon dioxide gas to stay in the bath, thereby enhances the blood circulation promoting effect of the carbon dioxide gas.
