A monolithic refractory composition, which can be rapidly dried after being mixed with water and applied to a desired portion by casting or spraying to form a furnace wall, and which comprises refractory aggregates, a refractory powder, an aluminum alloy powder and a dispersant, wherein the aluminum alloy powder is contained in an amount of from 0.04 to 5 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the total amount of the refractory aggregates and the refractory powder.

A spray operation method for monolithic refractories, which comprises forcibly sending to an application field by a force feed pump and a force feed piping a self flowable mixed batch prepared by mixing, together with water, a powder composition for monolithic refractories comprising refractory aggregates, a refractory powder and a small amount of a dispersant; injecting into the mixed batch, compressed air and a required amount of a rapid setting agent respectively from a compressed air injection inlet and a rapid setting agent injection inlet provided at a downstream portion or downstream portions of the force feed piping; sending the mixed batch together with the compressed air by a nozzle piping to a spray nozzle attached to the forward end of the nozzle piping; and spraying the mixed batch from the spray nozzle to an application site.

Spray operation method for monolithic refractories

A monolithic refractory powder mixture containing from 2 to 3 wt % of spheroidized refractory particles having a mean particle size of at most 30 .mu.m of at least one member selected from the group consisting of alumina cement, alumina, titania, bauxite, diaspore, mullite, aluminous shale, chamotte, pyrophyllite, sillimanite, andrewsite, silica rock, chromite, spinel, magnesia, zirconia, zircon, chromia, silicon nitride, aluminum nitride, silicon carbide, boron carbide, zirconium boride and titanium boride, and having a cone flow value of at least 180 mm when a refractory mixture having the powder mixture kneaded by an addition of 6 parts by weight of water per 100 parts by weight of the powder mixture, is cast into a cone-shaped mold with a dimension of 70 mm.o slashed.-100 mm.o slashed..times.60 mm and left to stand for 60 seconds without exerting vibration after removing the cone-shaped mold.

Monolithic refractory powder mixture

Hydrophilic graphite-base powder is provided wherein hydrophilic small particles of such as silicon carbide or silica are mixed with a graphite powder and the small particles are attached to each surface of the graphite particles by performing a mechanical impact treatment in a high-speed gas flow. By combining the graphite-base powders with refractory compound powders of such as magnesia or alumina to be a powder mixture for monolithic refractories containing graphite, a formed body of the powder mixture having a large bulk density can be provided and a service life thereof is comparable to that of a shaped refractory, and labor and energy necessary for the production process and the operation are saved.
