A needle-shaped body protrudes from a cantilever made of Si. Furthermore, the rear face of the cantilever is coated with aluminum (first metal) having a Fermi level higher than that of Si. The cantilever is dipped into an aqueous silver nitride solution containing the ions of Ag serving as a second metal. The electrons of Si flow out to the aqueous silver nitride solution due to the existence of the aluminum, and Ag nanostructures are precipitated at the tip end of the needle-shaped body. A probe for tip-enhanced Raman scattering in which the Ag nanostructures are fixed to the tip end of the needle-shaped body is manufactured. The sizes and shapes of the Ag nanostructures can be controlled properly by adjusting the concentration of the aqueous silver nitride solution and the time during which the cantilever is dipped into the aqueous silver nitride solution.

Probe manufacturing method and probe

The present invention relates to a fiber-reinforced sheet having excellent strength. The fiber-reinforced sheet according to the present invention comprises a resin and a fiber bundle, and the fiber-reinforced sheet comprises a resin-unimpregnated fiber bundle portion having a surface not impregnated with the resin or a partially resin-impregnated fiber bundle portion having a surface not impregnated with the resin, has a first surface and a second surface opposite to the first surface, comprises a sheet body portion and at least one ridge portion protruding from the sheet body portion on the first surface, and comprises the resin-unimpregnated fiber bundle portion or the partially resin-impregnated fiber bundle portion at at least one of the first surface and the second surface.

Distribution is acquired for a reflectance spectrum and a fluorescence emission spectrum on a sample composed of color-image recorded matter. Then, on the basis of the distribution of the reflectance spectrum and the fluorescence emission spectrum, a single color portion is identified that is generated with one colorant selected from colorants of plural colors used in generating a color image. A control unit stores in advance Raman spectra of colorants of single color for each manufacturer. Laser light is projected onto the single color portion of the sample so that a Raman spectrum is measured. Then, the measured Raman spectrum is compared with the Raman spectra stored in advance so that the manufacturer of the colorant is identified and hence the colorant is identified.

Laser light having an energy of 1.9&#xb1;0.1 eV is projected onto a carbon nanotube-containing substance so that a Raman spectrum is acquired. On the basis of the intensity of a peak at Raman shift 221&#xb1;5 cmcaused by aggregates of single-walled carbon nanotubes, the degree of dispersion of single-walled carbon nanotubes in the carbon nanotube-containing substance is determined. A lower intensity of the peak indicates a higher degree of dispersion in the carbon nanotube-containing substance. As such, when the intensity of a particular peak contained in a Raman spectrum is measured, the degree of dispersion of single-walled carbon nanotubes in a carbon nanotube-containing substance can be evaluated easily and clearly.

A method of producing a thermally expansive microcapsule that is excellent in heat resistance and solvent resistance, narrow in breadth of the distribution of particle size, and extremely low in secondary cohesion of the particles when heated, wherein a polymer obtained from the component comprising not less than 80 weight % of monomer of nitrile series, less than weight % of monomer of non-nitrile series, and 0.05-1 weight % of at least tetrafunctional cross-linking agent and/or of long side chain of cross-linking agent is used to micro-encapsulate a volatile expanding agent that comes into its gaseous state at a temperature equal to or less than a softening point of the polymer.

When an operator causes an angle change, a rotation controller controls rotation of an aperture structure with an aperture. At the same time, a deviation amount calculator calculates a positional deviation change amount based on angles of the aperture relative to a sample through rotation and deviation parameters regarding a deviation between a rotation axis of the aperture and a center of the aperture. Then the deviation amount calculator sends the positional deviation change amount to a horizontal motion controller. The horizontal motion controller controls a sample stand driving means to move a sample stand in the X-axis and Y-axis direction corresponding to the positional deviation change amount. The position of a sample is automatically adjusted to keep a spot of the sample at the center of the aperture through angle adjustment.

Infrared microscope

A microscopic spectrometer is disclosed wherein a sample can be irradiated with light from a first light source and either transmitted or reflected through the sample to a spectrometrical measuring system. A half mirror can be detachably provided in the optical system to form two branched optical paths. A second light source can be positioned to irradiate the sample 2 with light through a masking system. The half mirror can transmit the image of the masking system to superimpose it upon the sample and a composite image can then be reflected from the half mirror onto a branched optical path to be observed by the operator. The operator can adjust the actual positions of the masks assembly, while, at the same time, see the entire field of view of the specimen to therefore define in an easy and convenient manner the portion of the specimen to be tested. The respective half mirror and second light source can then be removed prior to performing a spectrometric measurement.
