A printing apparatus includes a print head, a first cutter and a processor. The print head performs printing on a printing medium. The first cutter cuts the printing medium on which the print head has performed the printing. The first cutter trims away a corner at an end in a width direction of the printing medium. The processor controls the print head and the first cutter based on cutting information on an area to be trimmed by the first cutter so that a printing area of the printing medium is not cut by the first cutter.

A stamp-face platemaking device transports a medium holder inserted into a plate insertion portion to a printing unit. The medium holder holds a stamp face material in a plate-like member, and has a predetermined pattern in a side end portion thereof. An optical sensor detects the top end portion of the medium holder on a sensor scanning line in the inserting direction, and the pattern start point and the pattern end point of the predetermined pattern. At least one of the horizontal and vertical sizes of the stamp face material is set based on the positions of two of the detected end portions. When the pattern end point is detected, platemaking with the stamp face material is started.

A stamping-face plate holder is provided. The stamping-face plate holder comprises a plate holding member formed with a positioning recess for receiving and positioning a stamping-face plate and a film for covering the stamping-face plate held in the plate holding member. The stamping-face plate is made of a porous material impregnated with ink. The plate holding member consists of a top paper board and a bottom paper board, both boards being integrated by adhering and the positioning recess is formed in the top paper board. The film covers the whole surface of the top paper board and adheres to the top paper board excepting the stamping-face plate held therein.

A printing device includes a driver rotating and driving a feeder roller feeding a printing target member, a printing section performing printing on the printing target member, a cutter cutting the printing target member, a transfer mechanism which is provided at an upstream side of the feeding direction of the printing target member over the printing section and which selectively causes a transfer member with an adhesive to be in contact with the printing target member while feeding the transfer member to transfer the adhesive, and a transfer controller controlling transfer/non-transfer. The transfer/non-transfer of the adhesive to the printing target member is controlled based on positive/reverse rotation of a motor, and a print tape with an adhesive on the whole surface, a partial adhesive or no adhesive at all and without a paper liner is freely creatable.

A printer includes a conveyor roller for conveying a long printing tape having an adhesive but no release paper on a back surface thereof, a printing mechanism for performing printing on the printing tape conveyed, a drive unit for rotationally driving the conveyor roller, and a control unit for controlling the drive unit so that a rotational speed thereof becomes a constant speed slower than a standard speed when the printing tape is initially conveyed and then becomes the standard speed after it is conveyed a contact length of the conveyor roller with the printing tape. Thus, a risk can be prevented of a tape jam occurring in the printer due to the tape member remaining sticking to the conveyor roller when it is conveyed for the next printing because the tape member with the adhesive has been left stationary long in the printer.

A mouse device for use as an input device of a computer is provided that includes a housing in which recording paper is loadable, and a printer unit provided within the housing for printing on the recording paper print information received from the computer. The printer unit includes a paper loading section in which the recording paper is loaded, a platen roller for feeding the recording paper loaded in the loading section, a print head for printing on the recording paper fed by the platen roller, and a discharge port through which the recording paper is discharged after printing by the platen roller out of the housing while taking a substantially vertical attitude.

Printing on a tape is carried out using an ink ribbon having yellow, magenta, cyan and overprinting ink arranged thereon. First, the ink position of the ink ribbon is aligned with the print position of the tape, and one ink is transferred on the tape. This transfer is repeated for the yellow, magenta and cyan colors at the same print position to accomplish color printing. When color printing is completed, the position of the overprinting ink is aligned with the position of the tape, and the overprinting ink is overprinted on the color-printed area line by line. When the cut position of the tape reaches the position of a cutter, printing with the overprinting ink and feeding of the tape stop. In this state, the tape is cut. Then, the tape is cut when printing with the overprinting ink is carried out to the trailing edge of the color-printed area.

Printer and printing method having cutter control

A printing apparatus is provided with a thermal head which has a plurality of heatable elements disposed in a line and divided into plural groups. A control unit controls the plural groups of heatable elements in accordance with printing data to generate heat to thermal-transfer ink of an ink ribbon onto a label tape, thereby printing the printing data on the label tape. A boundary heatable element within one group of heatable elements which is disposed adjacently to other group of heatable elements is driven in accordance with the printing data when the other group of heatable elements are driven to generate heat. The boundary heatable element generates heat twice to prints data twice on the label tape at a portion corresponding to the boundary between two groups of heatable elements, there by printing data on the portion with higher printing intensity. Further, while controlling the thermal head to generate heat, the control unit controls a stepping motor to advance the label tape in synchronism with heat generation by the thermal head, wherein the printing data are printed in elliptical patterns in a tape running direction.
