A negative-working lithographic printing plate precursor has a negative-working infrared radiation-sensitive image-recording layer that has a) two or more free radically polymerizable components; b) an initiator composition capable of generating free radicals; and c) one or more infrared radiation absorbing cyanine dyes. The a) two or more free radically polymerizable components comprise a combination of a urethane (meth)acrylate and a polyester (meth)acrylate, which together, comprise 75-100 weight % of all free radically polymerizable components. The weight ratio of the urethane (meth)acrylates to the polyester (meth)acrylates is from 90:10 to and including 35:65. The urethane (meth)acrylates comprise one or more urethane linkages and at least 4 acrylate or methacrylate ester groups. Each of the one or more polyester (meth)acrylates is free of a urethane linkage and is represented following structure (I). These precursors are less sensitive to ambient ozone and can be infrared radiation imaged and developed on-press during lithographic printing.

Lithographic printing plate precursor and method of use

On-press developable, negative-working infrared radiation-sensitive lithographic printing plate precursors have an aluminum-containing substrate having at least inner and outer aluminum oxide layers. A hydrophilic layer is present on the outer aluminum oxide layer at 0.0002-0.1 g/mand contains a phosphorus-containing compound represented by Formula (I) at a coverage of 50-300 mg/m. A hydrophilic polymer can also be present at a lower coverage than that of the phosphorus-containing compound. These precursors have an on-press developable, negative-working infrared radiation-sensitive imageable layer having at least a free radically polymerizable component; an initiator composition that provides free radicals upon exposure to imaging infrared radiation; an infrared radiation absorber having an anionic chromophore; and optionally a polymeric binder that is different from all other components. Such precursors can be imaged and on-press developed to provide lithographic printing plates, and they can be readily manufactured using a particular sequence of steps including multiple anodization steps.

Lithographic printing plate precursors, methods of using and manufacture

A lithographic printing plate precursor has an infrared radiation-sensitive image-recording layer containing an IR absorber, and an ozone-blocking material of 1500 or less molecular weight and has structure (I), (II), or (III): wherein R is a hydrocarbon having 14-30 carbon atoms; m is 1 or 2; n is 1-6; the sum of m and n is &#x3e;2 and &#x3c;8; and A is a multivalent organic moiety free of R and OH groups and has a valence m+n; wherein Rand Rare alkyl groups of 14-22 carbon atoms, and o is 1-3;RC(&#x2550;O)NRR&#x2003;&#x2003; (III)wherein Ris an alkenyl with a C&#x2550;C bond within a carbon-carbon chain of 16-30 carbons, and Rand Rare hydrogen or unsubstituted alkyls of 1-4 carbon atoms. Such ozone-blocking materials can be used to protect infrared radiation-sensitive dyes that may be degraded by ozone and thus improve imaging sensitivity.

A positive-working lithographic printing plate precursor exhibits satisfactory developability and has long print run length, satisfactory scratch resistance, and exhibits improved ink receptivity. This precursor has an image forming layer comprising a water-insoluble and alkali-soluble or alkali-dispersible resin. The image forming layer comprises at least a lower layer and an upper layer. A resin in at least one of the lower layer and the upper layer is a polyurethane including a recurring unit comprising a substituent having an acidic hydrogen atom and a recurring unit represented by the following formula: wherein Ris an alkyl or polyether group in which at least 50% of hydrogen atoms have been fluorinated, Ris a hydrogen atom, or a substituted or non-substituted alkyl group, m is 0 or 1 to 10, n is 1 to 30, and x is 1 to 4.

To provide an infrared-sensitive or heat-sensitive lithographic printing plate precursor which has high printing durability and wide development latitude, and also has good developing properties capable of preventing the formation of deposits during the development. In an infrared-sensitive or heat-sensitive lithographic printing plate precursor, comprising a substrate, a first image recording layer formed on the substrate, and a second image recording layer formed on the first image recording layer, the first image recording layer contains a resin which is soluble or dispersible in an aqueous alkali solution, and the second image recording layer contains a polyurethane which has a substituent having an acidic hydrogen atom.

Lithographic-printing plate precursor and image forming method using the same

Substrates for imageable elements are disclosed. The substrates comprise, in order, an aluminum or aluminum alloy support, a silicate layer, and a layer of interlayer material. The interlayer material is a co-polymer that comprise (1) phosphonic acid groups and/or phosphate groups and (2) acid groups and/or groups that comprise ethylene glycol or polyethylene glycol side chains. Imageable elements that comprise an imageable layer over the interlayer material are useful as lithographic printing plate precursors.

Substrate for lithographic printing plate precursor

Imageable elements that contain silicate-coated polymer particles in the imageable layer, stacks of these elements, and methods for forming images using these elements are disclosed. The elements do not stick to each other when stacked without interleaving paper, and only one imageable element is lifted at a time when the imageable elements are handled by automatic processing equipment. Blanket piling is not observed when silicate-coated particles are present in the imageable layer.

The present invention provides an imageable composition including an acid curable composition, an acid generator, an infrared absorber having a counter anion derived from a non-volatile acid, and a strong acid such as a sulfonic acid. The imageable composition may include components such as a crosslinkable binder or a colorant. In one embodiment, the imageable composition further includes a colorant having a counter anion derived from a non-volatile acid. The present invention further provides an imageable element, which includes a substrate and an imageable coating on a surface of the substrate. Also provided is method of producing an imaged element according to the invention.

Also provided is method of producing an imaged element according to the present invention.
