A recirculating document feeder for use with an image forming machine having a transparent platen. This recirculating document feeder includes a document support disposed above the transparent platen and adapted to have a stack of documents placed thereon, with a selected side of each document facing down; a feed-out path extending from one end of the document support; a first switchback path having an upstream end connected to the downstream end of the feed-out path; a send-in path extending from its upstream end, which is connected to the upstream end of the first switchback path, to one end of the transparent platen; a send-out path extending from the other end of the transparent platen; a second switchback path having an upstream end connected to the downstream end of the send-out path; and a return path extending from its upstream end, which is connected to the upstream end of the second switchback path, to the other end of the document support. The bottom-most document of the document stack placed on the document support is fed out to the feed-out path, fed to the first switchback path through the feed-out path, and then sent onto the transparent platen through the send-in path in a reversed direction of feeding. Then, the document is fed from the transparent platen to the second switchback path through the send-out path, and then returned onto the document stack on the document support through the return path after the direction of its feeding is reversed again.

Recirculating document feeder

A document conveying apparatus for a document processor has a pair of width restriction members for correctly positioning documents to be processed. The width restriction members are movable in the width direction of the document processor. First and second rack-and-pinion mechanisms are spaced apart in the document conveying direction and are interlocked so that the racks of both mechanisms move together in a synchronized manner. Each width restriction member is coupled to two of the racks that move in the same direction.

Document conveying apparatus

A document conveying apparatus has a document pushing-down/adjusting mechanism disposed at an upper position on the downstream side of a document discharge port. The document pushing-down/adjusting mechanism acts on the rear end of the document on delivery after its rear end is substantially liberated from being nipped by a pair of document discharge rollers, forcibly pushes the rear end of the document down toward the upstream end position on the document-placing plate means, and holds the document for the document-placing plate means for a predetermined period of time.

Document conveying appartus

A document conveying apparatus of the circulation type has a first document discharge port disposed above the surface of the document-placing plate on the upstream side thereof and a second document discharge port disposed above the surface of the document-placing plate but below the first document discharge port on the downstream side of the first document discharge port. A first document transfer mechanism and a second document transfer mechanism are disposed in relation to the first document discharge port and the second document discharge port, respectively. On a downstream region of the second document discharge port is disposed a turn plate which is selectively pivoted between an ascended position and a descended position.

Document conveying apparatus for conveying documents of different length

A recirculating original-sheet transport apparatus supplies a sheet from a stack of original documents to the exposure station of an image forming apparatus and restores the sheet onto the stack. It includes a sheet container for receiving originals, a sheet feeder for feeding an original sheet from the sheet container to the image forming apparatus, and a sheet restorer for restoring the sheet into the sheet container. The sheet restorer includes a turning path in which is a plurality of soft rollers having guide ribs therebetween, and a straight transport path in which is a plurality of position-variable hard rollers around which transport belts extend and between which are guide ribs as well.

An automatic document conveying device for an image-processing machine including a housing having on its upper surface a transparent plate on which to place a document to be processed. The device includes an opening-closing frame member mounted on the housing so that it is free to pivot about a pivot axis extending along the rear edge of the transparent plate between a closed position at which it covers the transparent plate and an open position at which it exposes the transparent plate to view; a stationary frame member to be mounted on the housing adjacent to the upstream end of the transparent plate; a document table disposed on the stationary frame member; a document sending unit for sending a plurality of sheet-like documents placed on the document table to a document carrying-in passage one by one; and a document carrying-in unit for introducing the sheet-like documents sent to the document carrying-in passage toward the transparent plate. A conveyor belt unit is disposed in the opening-closing frame member. The conveyor belt unit includes a unit frame mounted in the opening-closing frame member, a driven shaft a follower shaft mounted on the unit frame in spaced-apart relationship in the conveying direction, and an endless belt wrapped about the driven shaft and the follower shaft.

Automatic document conveying device for image processing machine

A sheet transport device is provided which has a sheet tray removably attachable to the body of an apparatus pivotally movably to an upright position or an unfolded position. The sheet tray has pivots projecting from the respective opposite sides of base end of the tray and each having a first width when the tray is in the upright position and a second width larger than the first width when the tray is in the unfolded position. The apparatus body has cutouts for the respective pivots, each having an inlet portion with a width larger than the first width and smaller than the second width and a support portion with a diameter not smaller than the second width. An elastic member is disposed close to at least one of the cutouts for restraining the pivot as positioned in the support portion from rotating from the unfolded position to the upright position by contacting the pivot.

An automatic document conveying device for an image-processing machine including a housing having on its upper surface a transparent plate on which to place a document to be processed. The conveyor belt unit includes a unit frame mounted in the opening-closing frame member, a driven shaft a follower shaft mounted on the unit frame in spaced-apart relationship in the conveying direction, and an endless belt wrapped about the driven shaft and the follower shaft.

Automatic document conveying device for an image processing machine

A sheet transport device comprising a separating roller drivingly rotatable in a direction opposite to the direction of transport of sheets, bearings for rotatably supporting the rotary shaft of the roller, and a sheet guide member for guiding the sheet to the roller, the guide member being provided with a fitting portion fittable to each of the bearings from a direction approximately perpendicular to the axis of the bearing and thereby attachable to the body of an apparatus.

A developing method for forming a toner image of high quality which comprises supplying a two-component developer composed of a mixture of magnetic carrier particles and toner particles chargeable by frictional contact with the magnetic carrier particles onto a development sleeve comprised of a non-magnetic sleeve and provided therein, a magnet having alternately and circumferentially arranged magnetic poles of different polarities to thereby form a magnetic brush of the developer, and bringing the surface of a photosensitive drum bearing a latent electrostatic image into frictional contact with the magnetic brush while a bias voltage is applied between the photosensitive drum and the sleeve thereby to form a toner image corresponding to the latent electrostatic image; characterized in that a brush cutting doctor is disposed on the non-magnetic sleeve so that the tip of the doctor is positioned nearly centrally between two magnetic poles of different polarities, and the development is carried out while moving the photo-sensitive drum and the development sleeve in the same direction at the site of frictional contact and the concentration (Ct, %) of the toner in the developer satisfies the following equation ##EQU1## wherein Sc is the specific surface area (cm.sup.2 /g) of the carrier, St is the specific surface area (cm.sup.2 /g) of the toner, and k is a number of from 0.80 to 1.14.

Electrophotographic developing method

Disclosed is a developing apparatus using a two-component type developer, which comprises a hopper provided with a toner feed roller, a developer delivery sleeve rotating in a direction reverse to the rotation direction of a photosensitive drum and having a magnet arranged in the interior thereof, a stirring roller for effecting frictional charging of toner particles and uniform mixing of a toner and a carrier, said stirring roller rotating in the same direction as the rotation direction of the developer delivery sleeve and being provided with a plurality of stirring vanes, an earing plate for controlling the earing length of a magnetic brush formed on the developer delivery sleeve, and a developer flow guiding mechanism arranged above the stirring roller, wherein the top end of each stirring vane is bent in the rotation direction of the stirring roller and a notch is formed on each stirring vane, a spiral passage is formed on the stirring roller by the notches of the stirring vanes, and the developer flow guiding mechanism comprises a partition plate and a plurality of guide plates arranged at predetermined intervals at least on the upper face of the partition plate.

Developing apparatus

Disclosed is a magnetic brush development method comprising supplying a two-component type developer comprising a mixture of magnetic carrier particles with toner particles chargeable by friction with the magnetic carrier particles onto a developing sleeve consisting of a non-magnetic sleeve having a magnet installed therein to form a magnetic brush of the developer, and bringing the magnetic brush in sliding contact with the surface of a photosensitive material having an electrostatic latent image formed thereon in the state where a bias voltage is applied between the photosensitive material and the sleeve, whereby a toner image corresponding to the electrostatic latent image is formed, wherein the two-component type developer comprises a ferrite carrier and electroscopic toner particles at a weight ratio of from 4/1 to 20/1.
