A multishaft electric motor has a plurality of juxtaposed rotors having respective permanent magnets disposed therearound, and a plurality of sets of armature elements disposed fully circumferentially around the rotors, respectively, the permanent magnets of adjacent two of the rotors having a plurality of pairs of unlike magnetic poles for magnetically coupling the rotors through the armature elements between the permanent magnets. A positive-displacement vacuum pump includes a casing, a pair of pump rotors rotatably disposed in the casing in confronting relation to each other, and a two-shaft electric motor coupled to the pump rotors for rotating the pump rotors in opposite directions. The two-shaft electric motor may comprise a pair of juxtaposed rotors and a pair of sets of armature elements disposed fully circumferentially around the rotors, respectively.

A screw type dry vacuum pump having dual shafts is disclosed, whereby the process gas is transported through three compartments, a gas admittance pump section, a central drive motor section, and a gas discharge pump section. By placing the drive motor in the center of the pump, it becomes possible to design a pump having the dual shafts supported only at one end, thus enabling to mount the rotors at the free ends of the pump which are closed with end plates which can be removed easily for servicing the pump sections. Synchronous operation of the dual shaft pump by magnetic coupling enables to lower power consumption and to extend the range of operable pressures.

The motor has a pair of motor rotors comprising respective sets of permanent magnets which are mounted respectively on the shafts, a pair of cans surrounding outer circumferential and end surfaces of the motor rotors in sealing relation to the pump assembly, a motor stator mounted on the cans and housed in a water-cooled motor frame.

A hydrodynamic bearing assembly includes a support shaft provided on a stationary member, a rotating member rotatably supported on the support shaft through a hydrodynamic radial bearing and a hydrodynamic thrust bearing, a magnet provided at a stationary side, and a magnetic member provided on the rotating member opposite the magnet. The magnetic member is attracted by the magnetic force from the magnet so that a force acting on the thrust hydrodynamic bearing is cancelled or reduced.

A spindle motor comprising a stator including a support shaft positioned on a base, a cap-shaped rotor rotatably and concentrically disposed around the support shaft, thrust and radial bearings disposed between the stator and the rotor, a stator coil secured to the stator, and a rotor magnet member secured to the rotor opposing the stator coil. The thrust and radial bearings are hydrodynamic bearings. A movable piece that constitutes a part of the thrust bearing is secured to the lower end of a cylindrical portion of the rotor and extended outwardly or inwardly from the cylindrical portion, or is disposed above the rotor. The stator coil is secured to the outer peripheral portion of the support shaft above or below the radial bearing. The rotor magnet member is securd to the inner peripheral surface or inner top surface of the rotor. Either a radial or axial gap is provided between the stator coil and the rotor magnet member.

A rotation supporting device of a polygon mirror comprising a stationary shaft provided with a shaft sleeve around its circumference, a rotary assembly rotatably mounted around the circumference of the shaft sleeve and having a radial circumferential surface of a polygon made to serve as mirror surfaces and having a magnet member, thrust plates for suppressing the motion of a rotary assembly in the axial direction. Dynamic thrust pressure bearings are included between the end surfaces of a rotary assembly and the thrust plates.
