A sewing machine with needle threading device is disclosed, wherein the thread passed through the needle eye of a needle of the sewing machine by operation of a threading hook may be released from the threading hook during a process of the threading hook moving up to the upper initial position after the threading operation is finished. More precisely, the sewing machine comprising a threading shaft having a threading hook mounted to the lower end thereof, a control means CPU for providing a descending process wherein the threading shaft is moved down from an upper initial position to a lower threading position where the threading hook is operated to catch a thread to pass the thread through the needle eye and an ascending process wherein the threading shaft is moved up from the lower threading position to the upper initial position, the ascending process including an initial process wherein the threading shaft is moved up a predetermined distance from the lower threading position to pull up the threaded thread, a second process wherein the threading shaft is moved down a predetermined distance after the initial process to have the threading hook release the threaded thread and a final process wherein the threading shaft is moved up to the upper initial position after the second process while said threaded thread is released from said threading hook

A sewing machine having a free arm which is provided with free arm sensors and for detecting a contact between the free arm and a cylindrical work during embroidery stitching operation, the cylindrical work being held by an embroidering frame and placed on the free arm as covering the same so as to be embroidered thereon. The contact as detected is indicated to the machine user or the sewing machine is stopped. Further, the contact detection may be used to seek an area where the work may be allowed to be embroidered. The area as sought is discriminated prior to initiation of stitching operation if the work may be embroidered in the area.

A sewing machine having a threading device is disclosed. The sewing machine comprises a needle bar having a needle attached to a lower end thereof. The needle has a needle eye and a threading shaft has a threading member mounted to the lower end thereof. The threading member has a threading hook, a drive motor for vertically moving the threading shaft along the needle bar, guide means for guiding and rotating the threading shaft at a threading position as the threading shaft is vertically moved, and a regulating member for deciding the threading position of the threading shaft. The threading shaft is moved down and stopped at the threading position and is axially rotated to pass the threading hook through the needle eye. The threading shaft is maintained in this state until a return signal is given such that the drive motor is driven again to pull the threading hook out of the needle eye and move up the threading shaft.

The invention has been made to provide an embroidery sewing machine which may be automatically operated to withdraw the embroidering frame to a predetermined inoperative position. More particularly, in case the power source switch is turned off, the power happens to be in failure, the power cord happens to be disconnected, the sewing operation is interrupted for a predetermined period of time, or the instruction is given to withdraw the embroidering frame to a predetermined inoperative position, the CPU is responsive to these situations to control the X-Y moving mechanism to withdraw the embroidering frame to the predetermined inoperative position.

A zigzag sewing machine includes a needle hole member having a round needle hole of a diameter slightly larger than that of a stitching needle. The needle hole member engages a laterally elongated hole in a needle plate and is swingable along the latter. A base member is mounted coaxially with a loop taker and is rotatable relative to the loop taker. The needle hole member is pivoted to the base member for relative vertically swinging movement. A lever swingably mounted on the machine housing engages with the needle hole member, and a cam rotated in synchronism with the vertical reciprocation of the needle is in engagement with the swinging lever. In a computerized sewing machine, initial coordinate values of amplitudes of needle drops (the stitching width) for line-and bar tacks of a buttonhole are stored in a ROM. Desired stitching amplitude values and cut width values are selected by external setting means on the machine and stored in a RAM. In a zigzag sewing machine, a mechanism for producing stitched patterns includes a shaft carrying a first group of pattern cams and a second group of pattern cams rotatable by a drive shaft and having different speed reduction ratios. It is possible to select patterns by a control of an actuating pawl which is carried out by operating an independently provided selecting dial.
