Provided are: a rotor provided with a magnetic end plate and a structure for suppressing magnetic flux leakage; and an electric motor having this rotor. The rotor has a rotor core of an approximately cylindrical shape, a plurality of magnets supported by the rotor core, and two end plates arranged at either end surface in the axial direction of the rotor core, the end plates being formed of a magnetic material. Each end plate has an approximately circular shape corresponding to the radial cross-section of the rotor core, and a circumferential portion of the end plate has, as seen in the axial direction, concave portions that partially cover the magnets, and convex portions that are positioned between the plurality of magnets and have larger dimensions in the radial direction than the concave portions.

A motor selection apparatus includes: a mechanical condition obtainment unit that obtains information pertaining to a distance between a center of mass of a workpiece and a rotation center of a motor; an operating pattern obtainment unit that obtains information pertaining to an operating pattern; a motor information obtainment unit that obtains information pertaining to instantaneous torque; an eccentric load torque calculation unit that calculates eccentric load torque, which is load torque acting on the motor in accordance with the rotation phase of the motor; an acceleration/deceleration torque calculation unit that calculates acceleration/deceleration torque; a required torque calculation unit that calculates a required torque from a sum of the eccentric load torque and the acceleration/deceleration torque; and a motor selection unit that determines whether a motor can be selected, based on whether the required torque is less than or equal to the instantaneous torque of the motor.

The stator frame includes: a spiral groove which is provided as a flow path of a coolant from one end side to the other end side in an axis direction spirally along the circumferential direction of an outer circumferential surface; and annular grooves which individually communicate with the end portions of the spiral groove on the one end side and the other end side in the axis direction and which are provided annularly along the circumferential direction of the outer circumferential surface. The spiral groove is formed such that a groove depth is shallow in regions on the one end side and the other end side in the axis direction and the groove depth is deep in a region around a center in the axis direction.

The rotor includes a rotor core, a plurality of magnets arranged on the outside of the rotor core in the radial direction, a cylindrical cover tube surrounding the plurality of magnets, and resin charged to a gap defined between an outer peripheral surface of the rotor core and an inner peripheral surface of the cover tube. An axial dimension of the rotor core is greater than an axial dimension of each magnet, and an axial dimension of the cover tube.
