A topsheet for absorbent articles having absorbing performance for smoothly transferring liquid body waste, e.g., menstrual blood or urine, to an underlying absorbent member and surface characteristics such that the surface thereof in contact with wearer's skin is soft enough not to cause skin irritation. The topsheetcomprises a first layerdisposed on the side of a wearer and a second layerdisposed on the side of an absorbent member, the first layer and the second layer being partly joined together, and having protrusions and depressions on the side of a wearer, wherein the first and second layers each comprise a fiber aggregate, the first layer has fusion-bonded fiber intersections, the first layer has an apparent thickness (t) of 0.1 to 5 mm, the second layer has an apparent thickness (t) of 0.2 to 3 mm, the apparent thickness ratio of the first layer to the second layer (t/t) is 0.5 to 8, the first layer has a fiber density (d) of 0.001 to 0.05 g/cm, the second layer has a fiber density (d) of 0.03 to 0.2 g/cm, and the fiber density (d) of the second layer is higher than that (d) of the first layer.

Topsheet for absorbent article

A topsheet for absorbent articles is disclosed. The topsheet is used on the side of an absorbent article to be brought into contact with a wearer's body. The topsheet has an air permeability of 10 ml/cm&#xb7;sec or more in the horizontal direction under a pressure of 10 cN/cm. The topsheet also has an air permeability of 10 to 500 ml/cm&#xb7;sec in the horizontal direction under a pressure of 50 cN/cm.

A topsheetof an absorbent article is a nonwoven fabric having a plurality of heat fusion jointsformed by embossing. Fibers constituting the nonwoven fabric protrude in the thickness direction of the nonwoven fabric between the jointsto form a plurality of protrusionsandon both the upper and the lower sides of the nonwoven fabric. The base of the individual protrusionsformed on the lower side projects in the planar direction of the nonwoven fabric.

An absorbent article comprising a liquid permeable topsheet, a liquid impermeable backsheet, and a liquid retentive absorbent layer is disclosed. The absorbent layer comprises a superabsorbent polymer and hydrophilic fiber or foam that does not swell with water or hydrophilic fiber or foam that has a water retention of 0.7 g/g or less when it is swollen with water and then dewatered by centrifugation. The absorbent article has a physiological saline fixing ratio of 90% or more when it absorbs 10 g of physiological saline and, after 5 minutes, is dewatered by centrifugation.

Wrapping construction of absorbent article

An absorbent article having a central absorbent body comprising a liquid permeable topsheet, a liquid impermeable backsheet and an absorbent member interposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, and a pair of flaps provided in the opposing longitudinal sides of the central absorbent body, is characterized in that: each of the flaps is connected with the surface of the absorbent article which, in use, does not contact the skin of the wearer, each of the flaps forms an antileakage wall along each edge of the opposing longitudinal sides of the central absorbent body, each of the flaps is folded outwardly from the central absorbent body to form an antileakage surface, and the antileakage surface in the portion which contacts the discharging portion of the wearer in use is a surface substantially parallel to the skin-contacting surface of the absorbent article.

Absorbent article having antileakage walls

A substantially elongated absorbent article having a liquid permeable topsheet, a liquid impermeable backsheet, an absorbent member interposed between the topsheet and the backsheet, and a pair of hydrophobic areas along opposing longitudinal side portions of an upper surface of the absorbent article inwardly from longitudinal side edges of the absorbent article, the hydrophobic areas each having a continuous or discontinuous antileakage groove formed along a respective one of the longitudinal side portions, wherein a width of each of the antileakage grooves is from 0.1 mm to 20 mm, a ratio of a depth of each of the antileakage grooves with respect to a thickness of a portion of the absorbent article where no antileakage groove is formed is from 0.01 to 0.8, and the depth of each of the antileakage grooves is from 0.1 mm to 12 mm.

An absorbent article has a substantially elongated shape and includes a topsheet 2, a backsheet 3, and an absorbent member 4. The topsheet 2 includes a sheet member which has one surface 2a exhibiting hydrophobic properties and another surface 2b exhibiting hydrophilic properties. The one surface of the topsheet is a skin contactable surface, and the other surface faces the absorbent member 4. The backsheet serves as an anti-leakage sheet and is disposed at opposing longitudinal side portions of an upper surface of the absorbent article inwardly from side edges 1a of the absorbent member so that the backsheet forms a pair of hydrophobic areas A. Each of the hydrophobic areas A has a continuous or discontinuous sealed portion 10 formed by sealing the topsheet 2 and the backsheet 3 along each inner edge A' of each hydrophobic areas A. A body fluid retaining portion 20 is provided at a location lying outside of the sealed portion 10 on the skin contactable surface of the absorbent article. The body fluid retaining portion 10 is formed by folding the topsheet 2 so that the hydrophilic surface 2b forms the inside of the fold.
