A control for controlling an intake air into an engine is provided. A control valve for adjusting an amount of the intake air into the engine is provided. A desired opening degree of a control valve provided in an intake air passage into the engine is determined based on a clogging coefficient. The clogging coefficient indicates a degree of clogging of the intake air passage. An opening degree of the control valve is controlled to converge to the desired opening degree. The clogging coefficient is updated based on a feedback correction amount for feedback controlling a rotational speed of the engine during idling operation. If a leakage in a blow-by gas passage that is connected between the engine and the intake air passage is detected, the update of the clogging coefficient is prohibited.

Control apparatus for controlling the amount of intake air into an engine

There is provided a throttle control system and method for an internal combustion engine as well as an engine control unit, which are capable of controlling a throttle valve without any trouble even when the throttle valve is frozen. The throttle control system controls the degree of opening of the throttle valve. The opening of the throttle valve detected during control of the throttle valve to a fully-closed position at a start of the engine is set to a smallest angle. A temperature of the throttle valve is detected. A lower limit value of the target degree of opening is set to a degree of opening larger than the detected smallest angle of the throttle valve, when the detected smallest angle is larger than a predetermined degree of opening and at the same time the detected temperature of the throttle valve is lower than a predetermined temperature.

A sensor comprises a linear region (variable region) in which the output voltage is changed in proportion to the accelerator opening degree, and a stepped region (invariable region) in which the output voltage is not changed with respect to the accelerator opening degree. A resistor electrode for constructing the sensor is formed by laminating a resistor composed of a resistance substance on a base plate in a linear section corresponding to the linear region. In a stepped section corresponding to the stepped region, the resistor electrode is formed by laminating the resistor on a conductive layer composed of a conductive substance formed on the base plate.

Accelerator opening degree sensor

According to the present invention there is provided a highly reliable position sensor capable of preventing the entry of foreign matters such as water and dust from the exterior into a receptacle chamber formed within a housing. Formed in the housing are a mounting opening to be mounted in a sealed state to a throttle body and a receptacle chamber having an opening. The receptacle chamber and the mounting opening are partitioned from each other by a partition wall. A sensor body is mounted into the receptacle chamber and the opening of the chamber is covered with a cover, then a clearance formed between the opening and the cover is filled and sealed with a thermosetting resin such as an epoxy resin. A communication hole for communication between the receptacle chamber and the mounting opening is formed through an operating shaft which is rotating a sliding-element receiver of the sensor body. While the thermosetting resin is heated, the air expanded in the receptacle chamber is allowed to escape through the communication hole to the exterior. After a throttle position sensor as the position sensor has been attached to the throttle body, the communication hole formed in the operating shaft is shut off from the exterior by the mounting surface for the throttle body.

A control system for an automatic transmission of an internal combustion engine installed on an automotive vehicle measures a duration over which the automatic transmission continues to be in a speed position. Downshift of the speed position of the transmission to a lower speed position is inhibited if the measured duration does not exceed a predetermined time period, when it is determined that the automotive vehicle is in a predetermined decelerating condition.
