A liquid ejecting apparatus includes a printing portion and a control portion. The printing portion executes a printing operation including ejecting a liquid from a nozzle onto a medium. The control portion executes an initial operation upon supply of power and executes the printing operation in accordance with a print instruction. The initial operation and the printing operation include a common printing operation that is common to the initial operation and the printing operation. When the control portion does not receive the print instruction during execution of the initial operation, the control portion executes the initial operation including the common printing operation. When the control portion receives the print instruction during execution of the initial operation, the control portion omits the common printing operation from the initial operation.

A recording apparatus includes a recording unit that performs recording on a recording medium, a first transport path through which the recording medium is transported in a first direction during the recording by the recording unit, and a second transport path which is connected to the first transport path at a downstream position of the recording unit in the first direction and through which the recording medium recorded by the recording unit is transported on a path that is different from the first transport path in a second direction that is different from the first direction. A transport distance between a position of the recording unit and a connecting position where the first transport path and the second transport path are connected to each other is configured to be changed.

When the determination portion determines that a load larger than or equal to the predetermined load has been applied to the motor for the predetermined period, the motor control portion rotates the motor in a direction reverse to a normal rotation direction and then rotates the motor again in the normal rotation direction by inputting to the motor an electric current being larger than an electric current that has been input to the motor for transporting the paper in the transport direction, before an electric current causing a load that is larger than or equal to the predetermined load is input to the motor.
