Such complex boride cermet has high strength and high toughness and maintains such properties even at elevated temperatures of from 600.degree. to 900.degree. C. Also disclosed is a process for producing a complex boride cermet containing carbon or/and nitrogen, and optionally at least a carbide or/and a nitride of a metal selected from the metals of Groups 4B, 5B and 6B are added to the starting material.
