A substrate for biochips which has a high probe loading amounts and a uniform immobilization density, and which further has a high detection sensitivity and a high reproducibility by preventing a non-specific adsorption of proteins, when used as a substrate for biochips for immobilizing probes composed of biologically relevant substances such as proteins and nucleic acids, is disclosed. Amino groups can be bound to the surface of the substrate uniformly, at a high density and stably by covalently immobilizing an amino group-containing polymer on the surface of the substrate. The probe immobilization rate is high and immobilizing density was uniform by immobilizing a probe composed of a biologically relevant substance such as a protein or nucleic acid by utilizing the amino groups. Further, detection sensitivity and reproducibility are high by inhibiting non-specific adsorption of proteins.

Biochip substratum and method for production thereof

A biochip substrate which is free from cross-contamination due to spot spreading or contact with spots adjacent to each other, and a biochip using the same. A biochip substrate on which multiple valleys for immobilizing biological substances are formed so as to prevent cross-contamination due to spot spreading or contact with spots adjacent to each other, and a biochip using the same are provided. Moreover, it is found out that a desired binding in a target molecule contained in a test sample occurs at a detectable level in a solution system even in the case where a valley have such a small capacity as 1 nL to 10 nL.

Biochip substrate and biochip

A substrate for biochips, which does not induce autofluorescence, which can immobilize a biologically relevant substance(s) easily, which can prevent the undesirable spread of a liquid spot which is added dropwise on the biochips when using the biochips, in which the adhesion between a carbon-containing layer and an aluminum material is high, and which can be produced at lower cost than the known substrate for biochips; a method for producing the substrate; and a biochip including the substrate are disclosed. The substrate for biochips comprises a carbon-coated aluminum material, wherein the carbon-coated aluminum material comprises an aluminum material and a carbon-containing layer formed on at least one surface of the aluminum material, and further comprises an interposing layer which is formed between the aluminum material and the carbon-containing layer, and which interposing layer contains aluminum element and carbon element.

Biochip substrate and method for producing same

A substrate for biochips with which immobilization is easy, which does not exhibit self-fluorescence, which is easy to manufacture, and which is excellent in flatness and surface precision, is disclosed. A substrate having a substrate body of the biochip, which is made of a metal, and a carbon layer having functional groups formed on the metal substrate body is used as a substrate for biochips. Since the substrate body of the substrate for biochips is made of a metal, the substrate is not only easy to manufacture, but also free from cracking and chipping, so that it allows easy handling, and high flatness and surface precision can be attained. Therefore, the problem that the optical system is hard to focus when detecting fluorescence does not occur. Moreover, since the substrate body is made of a metal, it does not emit fluorescence by itself. In addition, since the carbon layer has functional groups such as amino groups, biologically relevant substances can be easily immobilized.

Substrate for biochip and biochip

Means for overcoming the problems which the conventional glass microchannel chips have are disclosed. That is, a microchannel chip in which microchannels can be formed at a low cost, and which has a high chemical resistance is disclosed. The microchannel chip is constituted by a substrate made of carbon, which has a channel in its surface; and a cover composed of a glass plate bonded to the substrate. The cover is bonded to the substrate by heating at least a part of the contact surface at which the substrate is in contact with the cover.

Micro-passage chip

A magnetic recording medium having excellent magnetic properties and a uniform recording envelope suitable for, in particular, high-density recording is obtained by packing a magnetic substance in the micro pores of anodic oxide film formed on an aluminum substrate by subjecting the same to an anodic oxidation treatment to produce an anodic oxide film having a thickness of at least 4 .mu.m. The recording medium can be improved by immersing the anodized aluminum substrate in an acid or alkali bath to chemically dissolve a part of the anodic oxide film, and thereby enlarge the micro pores in the anodic oxide film to a pore diameter in the range of 300 .ANG. to 1,400 .ANG., optionally applying an electric current to the aluminum substrate in the immersion bath if necessary to control the thickness of the barrier layer in the anodic oxide film, before subjecting the treated substrate to an electrolytic treatment in a bath containing ions of a magnetic substance to deposit the magnetic substance in the enlarged micro pores. Thereafter, the surface of the anodic oxide film, and any excess deposited magnetic material thereon, is physically ground to expose the packed magnetic substance at the surface of the film.

Process of producing magnetic recording media

An aluminum substrate for magnetic recording media such as magnetic disks, etc., is composed of an aluminum alloy plate containing 2 to 6% by weight magnesium and impurities in only limited amounts and having on the surface an anodic oxidation film with thickness more than 3 .mu.m formed by a chromic acid process. In the thus-anodized aluminum substrate, the occurrence of black spot defects is greatly reduced and the formation of cracks upon heating the substrate to high temperatures is prevented in spite of the thicker anodic oxidation film.

Aluminum substrate for magnetic recording media

An aluminum substrate suitable for making high-density magnetic recording media is produced by anodizing a surface of the aluminum substrate in an aqueous chromic acid solution at an electrolytic voltage higher than 60 volts. The anodic film thus formed has no black spot defects and also exhibits no cracks when the substrate is heated at a high temperature for forming a magnetic recording layer. The effect is further improved by adding a small amount of oxalic acid to the electrolyte.

Process of producing aluminum substrate for magnetic recording media

The invention comprises an improved method for producing anodized aluminum articles colored by means of optical interference effects. The method comprises the steps of subjecting an aluminum article that has been anodized by conventional process to a treatment for modifying the pore structure of the anodic film, thereafter subjecting it while connected as anode to an electrolytic treatment for modifying the barrier layer between the oxide and the metal substrate and finally coloring the article while connected as cathode in an electrolyic bath containing one or more dissolved metal salts using DC current on which is superimposed a train of positive current pulses.
