An image reading system which reads the images of a detectable object comprising an image display device that has an image display area to display images having luminosity corresponding to the display gradation and radiates the display illumination according to this luminosity; a detection surface in which the entire image display area of the image display device is covered with a laminated layer arrangement and a detectable object is placed; an image reading device comprising a first sub-area in the detection surface on which the detectable object is placed and a second sub-area which consists of an area corresponding to at least a portion of the area of the image display area except for the first sub-area; and a plurality of photosensors arranged in a matrix form provided in the first sub-area and second sub-area which has uniform transmittance, wherein at least a portion of the display illumination is permeated and the image of the detectable object is read in the first sub-area. While being able to read a detectable object image adequately, the image display can be performed satisfactorily.

Image reading system

A photosensor system including a photosensor array having a plurality of photosensors arranged two-dimensionally comprises a driver circuit and a readout circuit for applying signal voltages to each photosensor, and also a control circuit having a function of controlling the voltages applied to each photosensor and adjusting the sensitivity of each photosensor. During an image reading operation and a reading operation for setting the sensitivity of each photosensor, a correction signal is generated, which has an effective voltage that can adjust an effective voltage, applied to each gate electrode of each photosensor, to 0 V, or to a value that minimizes degradation of the characteristics of each photosensor. This correction signal is applied to each gate electrode.

Photosensor system and drive control method thereof

A photosensor system is provided which includes a photosensor array constituted by two-dimensionally arraying a plurality of photosensors, a driver circuit for supplying a drive signal to the photosensors, and a controller for controlling a reading operation of a subject image and a sensitivity setting. Before the start of normal reading operation of a subject image, a pre-reading operation of changing the image reading sensitivity at a plurality of stages for respective rows is executed. A row in an optimal image reading state is easily determined based on the dynamic range distribution of the lightness data of read image data or a dynamic range distribution from which an abnormal value deviating from the main change trend of lightness data is removed, and the linearly differentiated value of the dynamic range. An image reading sensitivity set for this row is set as an optimal sensitivity.

A photosensor system performs a sensitivity-adjusting reading operation with respect to a subject image, while simultaneously changing the image reading sensitivity stepwise for each of rows of a photosensor array or for specific rows thereof. The dynamic ranges of the lightness data on the read subject image are checked to see how they are distributed in relation to the image reading sensitivities. On the basis of this distribution, an image reading sensitivity that contributes to an optimal image reading state is extracted as an optimal image reading sensitivity.

A photosensor array is provided with one or more semiconductor layers having carrier generating regions for generating carriers by incident exciting light, and the positions of the carrier generating regions are set arbitrarily so as to equalize the balance of incident light in the direction of two-dimensional travel, so that sensing with less distortion can be achieved.
