The present invention discloses a method of continuously processing a ribbonlike material. The method is characterized by comprising a preliminary polishing step in which surface defects of a material pulled out from an uncoiler are removed and the surface of the material is semi-finished by abrasion in combination with electrolytic polishing, a final polishing step in which the surface of the material is mirror-finished by abrasion in combination with electrolytic polishing, a washing and drying step in which the material is washed and dried with extraneous matter on the surface of the material washingly removed, a surface inspection step in which the thus finished surface of the material is inspected as to surface roughness and defects, a surface protection step in which a protective film is applied to the finished surface of the material, and a press step in which the material is cut into a predetermined size. According to the present invention, processes of mirror-finishing the surface of a ribbonlike material pulled out from an uncoiler and cutting such material into a predetermined size are continuously performed in an efficient and automatic manner.

Method of continuously processing a band-shape material

The present application discloses an equipment for continuously processing a band-shape material comprising transverse sliding shafts disposed on a base table, a basal board which freely slides transversely along said transverse sliding shafts, transverse-feeding means by which said basal board is quickly and/or slowly moved transversely, vertical sliding shafts disposed on said basal board, a tool of abrasion in combination with elctrolytic polishing which freely slides vertically along said vertical sliding shafts, vertical-feeding means by which said tool is moved vertically against said basal board and a polishing head which is disposed on said tool and composed of electrodes for electrolysis and abrasive matters for abrasion and by which continuously sent band-shape material is polished. In the case a band-shape material being conveyed is continuously polished for many hours, worn-out abrasive matters may be exchanged without interrupting the conveyance of said band-shape material, improving the working efficiency thereby.

Apparatus for continuously processing a band-shape material

In a method of mirror-finishing a cylindrical workpiece, according to which, with an abrasive matter and an electrolyte disposed at and supplied to each of the gaps between a cylindrical workpiece connected to the anode of a power supply and working electrodes connected to the cathode of the power supply and disposed oppositely to the outer surface or the inner surface of said cylindrical workpiece, an anodic liquation operation by electrolysis performed onto metal in the surface to be treated of the cylindrical workpiece is assisted with an abrasive operation by which anodic passive films generated on the surface to be treated are mechanically abrased by the abrasive matters, whereby the projected portions of the surface to be treated are electrolytically liquated and abrased preferentially, said method is characterized in that an electrolyte in a passive state is used, an electrolytic voltage to be used is in the range from a few V to about 15 V, the density of an electrolytic current to be used is about 10A/cm.sup.2 or less, the abrasive matter has a water-permeable property, the pressing force of the abrasive matters to the surface to be treated is 0.5 kgf/cm.sup.2 or more, the abrasive speed of the abrasive matters is 2 m/s or more, and the cycle which a portion of the surface to be treated is faced to the working electrodes is in the range from 20 to 200 ms.

Apparatus for mirror-finishing a cylindrical

In a method of mirror-finishing a cylindrical workpiece, according to which, with an abrasive matter and an electrolyte disposed at and supplied to each of the gaps between a cylindrical workpiece connected to the anode of a power supply and working electrodes connected to the cathode of the power supply and disposed oppositely to the outer surface or the inner surface of said cylindrical workpiece, an anodic liquation operation by electrolysis performed onto metal in the surface to be treated of the cylindrical workpiece is assisted with an abrasive operation by which anodic passive films generated on the surface to be treated are mechanically abrased by the abrasive matters, whereby the projected portions of the surface to be treated are electrolytically liquated and abrased preferentially, said method is characterized in that an electrolyte in a passive state is used, an electrolytic voltage to be used is in the range from a few volts to about 15 V, the density of an electrolytic current to be used is about 10 A/cm.sup.2 or less, the abrasive matter has a water-permeable property, the pressing force of the abrasive matters to the surface to be treated is 0.5 kgf/cm.sup.2 or more, the abrasive speed of the abrasive matters is 2 m/s or more, and the cycle which a portion of the surface to be treated is faced to the working electrodes is in the range from 20 to 200 ms. According to the method of the present invention, the outer surface or the inner surface of a cylindrical workpiece may readily, easily and efficiently be mirror-finished so as to have surface roughness of about 0.1 .mu.mRmax or less with the roundness of a cylindrical workpiece being a few .mu.m. There is also provided a mirror-finishing apparatus capable of performing a continuous long-term mirror-finishing with improved working efficiency, by abrasive matter feed mechanisms, a swivelling mechanism, a moving mechanism or the like.

Method of mirror-finishing a cylindrical workpiece

The present invention discloses mirror finishing comprising, forming an electrode tool provided with an electrode and abrasive matter, connecting the tool electrode and a workpiece to the cathode and to the anode of a direct current power supply or pulse power supply respectively, supplying an electrolyte to a gap between the electrode tool and the workpiece, sliding while pressing the electrode tool to the surface of the workpiece, and removing the anodic passive films produced on the convexed portions of the surface by electrolysis, by the polishing action of the abrasive matter. In addition, the tool electrolyzes preferentially the convexed portions of the surface to be polished, whereby the electrolytic operation is combined with abrasive polishing by abrasive matter so as to finish the surface to a mirror polished surface.
