A run-flat tire system for motorcycle improved in the puncture resistance and run-flat performance, which comprises a tire, tube and buffer; when the tire is mounted on a wheel rim and inflated, a tire cavity has a maximum section width (Wi), and when the tire is not inflated, the tire cavity has a maximum diameter (dd) and a sectional area (Sd); the buffer is an annular body made of an elastic closed-cell material disposed in the tire cavity, and a circumferentially extending groove is formed in a radially inner surface thereof to dispose the tube therein; the outside diameter (D) of the buffer under its free state is set in the range of from 0.90 to 1.0 times the maximum diameter (dd) of the cavity; the maximum section width (W) of the buffer under the free state is set in the range of from 1.05 to 1.2 times the maximum section width (Wi) of the cavity; and a gross sectional area (S) of the buffer under the free state inclusive of the sectional area of the groove is set in the range of from 1.0 to 1.15 times the sectional area (Sd) of the tire cavity.

Run-flat tire system for motorcycles

A radial tire for motorcycle has a belt layer of cords with modulus of elasticity of 600 kg/mm.sup.2 or more wound spirally on a carcass nearly parallel to the tire equator, and a bead apex rubber disposed on a bead core between a carcass main portion extending from a tread to a bead core and a carcass turned up portion. The bead apex rubber consists of a soft apex part SA with JISA hardness of 50 to 60 degrees extending radially outward from the bead core, and a hard apex part HA with JISA hardness of 70 to 95 degrees extending radially outward from the soft apex part SA. A height h1 the soft apex part SA from a bead base is 0.20 to 0.40 times a height h0 of the tread end, and a height h2 of the hard apex part HA is 0.50 to 1.25 times the height h0 of the tread end.

A run-flat tire and rim assembly for All Terrain Vehicles comprising: (A) a run-flat tire having beads with a radially inwardly protruding toe and a bead apex; (B) a rim having bead seats with a circumferentially extending groove with which the toe is engaged; (C) the height of the radially outer end of the bead apex being in a range of 15% to 30% of the tire section height; (D) the thickness of the rubber layer on the outside of a carcass in the tire sidewall regions being at least 10 times the diameter of the carcass ply cord; (E) the above-mentioned thickness decreasing gradually from a maximum tire section width point to the tire shoulder so as to form a weak portion in bending in each shoulder; (F) a circumferentially extending buttress provided in each shoulder; and (G) a hump with a diameter larger than the rim diameter formed axially inward of and adjacent to each bead seat of the rim.

A low pressure tire, comprises: a tire main body made of rubber, a pair of bead cores disposed in bead portions of the tire main body, and a rubber tread on a crown part of the tire main body. The maximum rubber thickness of the tire main body between a tread edge and a maximum tire width point is 1.3 to 3.5 times the rubber thickness at the tread edge, and further the maximum rubber thickness is 1.1 to 2.5 time the rubber thickness at the maximum tire width point, whereby weight reduction of tire is achieved while maintaining or improving the shock absorbing and damping characteristics of the tire.

The invention relates to a run-flat tire and rim assembly for all-terrain vehicles (ATV), wherein the rubber thickness of the tire sidewall is at leat 10 times the diameter of the ply cords of a carcass; the height of the radially outermost end of a tire bead apex from the tire bead base is within a range of 20 to 40% of the section height of the tire; each tire bead has a toe with a protrusion protruded radially inwardly from the bead base and a hump groove axially outward of the protrusion; the bead toe comprises a toe strip having a JIS A hardness of 65 to 95; and the rim is provided with a well in the center portion, a pair of bead seats one on each side of the well, a pair of humps one formed axially inward and adjacent to each bead seat to be engaged with the hump grooves of the tire beads and a pair of grooves one formed axially inward of each hump to receive the protrusions of the tire bead toes.

The skid member comprises a skid, extending in the longitudinal direction of the body, bent upward in its front part, support members protuberantly provided on the upper surface of the skid, and rotatably connected to the axis and at least one fin, protuberantly provided on the under surface of the skid, extending front to rear from a position beneath the above mentioned support member, located at the substantial center in its longitudinal direction of the skid, and the length of the fin is set in a range of 40 to 60% of the length of the skid.
