A heat exchanger for a combustion apparatus capable of providing satisfactory sealing between an open end of an oxidizing agent duct and a regenerative structure. A regenerator includes a high-temperature section constituted by a regenerative unit made of a ceramic material and a low-temperature section constituted by a regenerative unit made of a metal material. The regenerator is formed with a plurality of communication passages which permit a combustion chamber and a suction/exhaust duct structure to communicate with each other. The communication passages are provided by a plurality of through-holes formed in the regenerative units. The number of the through-holes and an equivalent diameter thereof are determined so as to permit a pressure loss gradient in the low-temperature section positioned on the side of the suction/exhaust duct structure to be larger than that in the high-temperature section positioned on the side of the combustion chamber.

This invention aims to attain an industrial furnace which ensures uninterrupted operation of itself and protects accessorial devices thereof including a rotary regenerative burner against otherwise possible damage when the rotary regenerative burner suffers from a mechanical trouble, and possess high responsivity and high accuracy. This industrial furnace has an oxidizing agent passage (12) communicating with-an oxidizing agent duct (33a) of a rotary regenerative burner (30), an exhaust gas passage (13) communicating with an exhaust gas duct (33b), a bypass (15) allowing intercommunication between the oxidizing agent passage (12) and the exhaust gas passage (13), and cut-off valves (16, 17) provided respectively in the bypass (15) and the exhaust gas passage (13), whereby the cut-off valve (16) on the bypass (15) side and the cut-off valve (17) on the exhaust gas passage (13) is controlled in response to a signal from burner.

This invention discloses a method and apparatus for heat recovery so constructed that in the process of supplying an oxidizing agent through an oxidizing agent supply path into the main body of a combustion apparatus and discharging a hot exhaust gas of combustion from the interior of the main body of the combustion apparatus, the oxidizing agent and the exhaust gas are caused to flow through a gas-pervious regenerating member formed in a lateral wall of the main body of the combustion apparatus and the area for passing the oxidizing agent in the regenerating part heated by the exhaust gas is changed along the course of time. Since the regenerating member is stationary and the oxidizing agent supply path is movable, the regenerating member itself admits of dimensional increase and the combustion apparatus enjoys a high capacity for combustion, permits a reduction in the interval between the time the combustion is started and the time the temperature of combustion reaches a prescribed level, and enables the combustion to proceed in a range of high temperature. The apparatus, therefore, is simple in structure and brings about generous energy saving, ensures high operational safety, and features a long service life.

This invention is directed to a heat recovery type combustion apparatus which has a regeverative member of ceramic material attached to the lateral wall of the main body of the combustion apparatus, a rotary duct set in place and adapted to communicate with the regeverative member, an air conduit for allowing flow of combustion air and an exhaust gas conduit for allowing flow of exhaust gas arising from combustion of fuel in the combustion apparatus both formed in the interior of the rotary duct, and rotary means adapted to rotate the rotary duct and enable the combustion air to be heated with the exhaust gas through the medium of the regeverative member.

A system for recovering resources from sludge in which sludge containing water in the amount of 90 to 70 percent is first supplied to a sludge concentrator through a forced supply equipment where the sludge is concentrated to contain a water content of a maximum of about 60 percent; then is sent to a drying furnace having a fluidized sand bed. The product obtained in the drying furnace is separated to gas and solid. After the separated gas is pressurized by a fan and is heated by a heat exchanger through a circulator passage, a portion thereof is supplied to the drying furnace as gas for drying and the remainder is sent to the sludge concentrator. The water content is then removed from the concentrated gas and the gas obtained from the sludge concentrator is used in the system as gaseous fuel. Further, the separated solid is dried and distilled through a special gasifying apparatus to recover gaseous fuel, and in addition, the separated solid is fed into ash disposal equipment; the ash generated from the gasifying apparatus is also supplied to the ash disposal equipment to allow the ash to be melted and then to allow the ash to be solidified in the ash disposal equipment and to take out the solidified massive ashes; the exhaust gases from the gasifying apparatus and ash disposal equipment are supplied to the said heat exchanger.

The flow of fluid in a field of flow entailing a combustion or reaction is simulated in a model water tank by a flow of water containing a large volume of fine, uniform air bubbles made visible by projecting a slit light upon the same and then analyzing and comparing the irregular reflection obtained with standard values for the purpose of determining changes in flow, velocity of flow, and like changes, and for predicting changes.

The measurement of the velocity of a flow in a water flow model, characterized by conducting into a model water tank water containing a large volume of fine, uniform air bubbles to form a simulated field of flow; projecting a slit of light on said field of flow; photographing the slit of light beams with a television camera and displaying said photographed beams of light on the screen of a monitor television set; measuring changes of said displayed, irregularly reflected beams of light at two close points with two photosensors on said screen; determining a time interval in the changes of irregularly reflected beams of light at said two close points and finding the velocity of said flow with said time interval taken as defining the duration required for the pictured aggregate of air bubbles to move from one to the other of said two photosensors.
