A panel driverstarts to feed a pixel-driving signal in the succeeding frame to a pixel existing at a position, through which an illuminating area passes, on each of the liquid crystal display panelsR,G, andB.

Projection type video display unit and illuminating device

An ion wind generator is arranged in the vicinity of a light source. The ion wind generator allows an air flow by negatively ionizing air by corona discharges using negative side needle electrodes, and drawing the negatively-ionized air using a ground side mesh electrode. High-temperature air surrounding the light source is drawn by the air flow and exhausted from an exhaust port at a rear side of a casing. An ozone decomposition catalyst filter is provided in the exhaust port. Ozone (O) is generated by the corona discharges in the ion wind generator. However, the ozone is decomposed by passing through the ozone decomposition catalyst filter provided at the exhaust port.

Projection type image display unit

An optimal processing portion () inputs a video signal (RGB signals) and analyzes 1-frame video in the video signal. For example, if the intensity of red color is 0 percent in all dots in 1-frame video, the optimal processing portion () applies to a light source gain adjustment portion () a control signal for rendering a gain of the illuminating device (R) 0 percent (minimum amount of light). The light source gain adjustment portion () receives the control signal and controls power supply to the illuminating device (R). In addition, the optimal processing portion () applies a driving instruction for rendering the amount of light transmission 0 percent with regard to all dots of the liquid crystal display panel (R), for example, to a LCD signal processing portion ().

Projection type video display

An ion wind generator () is arranged on one side of a light source (). The ion wind generator () produces an air current by negatively ionizing air by corona discharges at a needle electrode (), or negative side, and drawing the negatively-ionized air at a cylindrical electrode (), or positive side. The air current blows toward the light source () and removes heat generated by the light source (). An ultraviolet ray from the light source () is introduced to a vent of the ion wind generator () by a first dichroic mirror () and a ultraviolet ray reflection mirror (). Though air exhausted from the vent includes ozone (o) produced by corona discharges, the ozone is decomposed by the ultraviolet ray.

The auxiliary light source has LED chips respectively emitting red lights arranged therein in an array shape, and has lens cells for parallelizing light arranged therein on the light exit side of the LED chips, for example. The LED chip is arranged in correspondence with each of lenses composing a pair of fly's eye lenses, and the pair of lenses introduces the light emitted from the LED chip into the whole surfaces of liquid crystal panels. A mixing mirror transmits white light emitted from a main light source and reflects light emitted from the auxiliary light source, and mixes the white light and the auxiliary light respectively emitted from both the light sources and introduces the mixed lights into the pair of fly's eye lenses.
