In a wire electric discharge machine, a workpiece mounting unit mounts a workpiece tilted at a preset angle to a plane based on two orthogonal axes, X- and Y-axes. An XY-coordinate system is tilted at the preset angle so that it is transformed into an X'Y&#x2032;-coordinate system. A machining command value commanded by a machining program is corrected based on the X&#x2032;Y&#x2032;-coordinate system. Thus, the tilted workpiece is taper-machined with a wire electrode kept substantially perpendicular to the XY-plane (table surface).

A wire electrical discharge machine is provided with a rotating shaft for rotating a workpiece. In wire electrical discharge machining according to a machining program, a current average rotation radius at a current workpiece machining point is calculated for each predetermined period, based on average rotation radii at respective end points of a block to be executed and a directly preceding block and an amount of movement of the rotating shaft. Based on the calculated current average rotation radius, control is performed such that the speed of movement of the wire electrode relative to the workpiece machining point agrees with a command speed acquired from a machining power supply.

An ultra-hard material fixed to a cutting tool is formed into a cutting blade by electric discharge machining. The wire electric discharge machine has a rotating shaft to which the cutting tool is mounted, and has a touch sensor mounted to an upper wire guide. A measurement program is generated on the basis of a machining path instructed by the machining program. A machining program is regenerated from rotating shaft coordinate information and path coordinate position information obtained at measurement points, on the basis of the measurement program. As a result, a rake face position of the cutting tool can be accurately measured and a wire electrode can be positioned accurately with respect to that position during machining.

An electric discharge machine includes a machining power supply for applying a voltage to a machining gap between a machining electrode and its opposite workpiece and detecting a contact between the machining electrode and the workpiece. The machining power supply includes a first power supply circuit whose output voltage is equal to or less than an arc voltage, a second power supply circuit for supplying a pulse current to the machining gap, and a control unit. When the first power supply circuit detects a contact between the machining electrode and the workpiece, the control unit operates to supply a pulse current from the second power supply circuit to the machining gap while the machining electrode and the workpiece are in contact with each other.

Using adjustment amounts e(1-Lu/Lm) and e(1-Ll/Lm), wire-diameter correction amounts for the workpiece upper and lower surfaces are determined to be d+e(1-Lu/Lm) and d+e(1-Ll/Lm). When a workpiece setting table and upper and lower wire guides are driven, axes are controlled so that a wire electrode follows, on the workpiece upper and lower surfaces, paths shifted by the wire-diameter amounts, respectively.

Wire electric discharge machine

An electric discharge machine has a main power supply and a sub-power supply connected in parallel across a gap formed by an electrode and a workpiece. A voltage is first applied to the gap from the sub-power supply, and then machining energy is supplied to the gap from the main power supply when detected that the gap voltage has fallen to or below a certain detection level. Stable machining is achieved by changing the detection level according to the machining state.

The cutoff piece is held by the takeout head by projecting the selected permanent magnets from the motion restricting member by the sliding apparatus, and the held cutoff piece is released by retracting the selected permanent magnets into the motion restricting member by the sliding apparatus.

Wire-cut electric discharge machine

A manual feeding device in a wire electric discharge machine in which selection between a jog feed and a step feed is made automatically without mode change. When an axis motion key is pressed, a timer measures the time for which the key is pressed. When the key is turned off before the time measured reaches a predetermined length of time on the basis of which switching to the jog feed is made, the step feed is performed, so that the axis is moved by a predetermined amount. When the key is pressed for the length of time predetermined for switching to the jog feed, the jog feed is started, so that the axis is moved at a low speed. Further, when the key is pressed for a length of time predetermined for switching to a medium speed, the feed axis is moved at the medium speed, and when the key is pressed for a length of time predetermined for switching to a high speed, the axis is moved at the high speed. Since selection between the step feed and the jog feed and selection of the jog feed speed are automatically made depending on the time for which an axis motion key has been pressed, manual feeding operation to move a table and an upper guide is performed easily, so that the positioning of the table and the upper guide is performed easily.

Set feed speed is lowered when a short circuit is detected in a range within which machining is unstable, the range starting from the point at which discharge is detected after machining starts from a machining start point, thus control is carried our according to a machining rate, thereby preventing successive occurrence of short circuits. When machining proceeds beyond the unstable range, the lowered feed speed is returned to the normal feed speed.

A method of and a device for adjusting perpendicularity of a wire of a wire-cut electric discharge machine for performing a precise electric discharge machining with low cost. The wire is inclined in a U-axis direction to enable the wire to come into contact with only a lower contact piece of an adjusting jig. The wire is held at fixed positions with no play at an upper wire guide and the lower wire guide in this inclined state. The adjusting jig is move in the Y-axis direction to bring the wire into contact with only the lower wire guide and a position Y of the contact is stored. The adjusting jig is move in the X-axis direction to enable the wire to come into contact with only the upper contact piece, and the adjusting jig is move in the Y-axis direction to bring the wire into contact with the upper wire guide and a position Y of the contact is stored. A displacement of the upper wire guide in the V-axis direction is obtained based on a difference &Dgr;Y between the contact positions Y and Y and a distance D between the two contact pieces and a difference H between the upper and the lower wire guides, to compensate the displacement of the upper guide according to the displacement amount. The above procedure is repeatedly performed until the difference &Dgr;Y is within an allowable range. An adjustment of perpendicularity of the wire in the U-axis direction is performed in the similar manner.
