A method of operating a metal-halogen battery such as a zinc-bromine battery, intended to prevent dendrite from formation on an electrode during charging the battery. The method comprises the step of carrying out an operation of discharging the battery at a predetermined constant current having a first current value throughout charging the battery; and the step of initiating an operation of charging the battery at a second current value of two times the first current value and maintaining the changing operation at a third current value which linearly decreases from the second current value to a zero value toward a termination of charging the battery.

Method of operating metal-halogen battery

A magnetic recording medium is disclosed which comprises a non-magnetic support and a magnetic layer comprising ferromagnetic powder, provided on the support. The magnetic layer contains silicon and aluminum, wherein the silicon content of ferromagnetic powder is not less than 0.1% by weight, and the ratio by weight of silicon to aluminum is not less than 3, and magnetic layer contains a binder having an anionic functional group. The magnetic recording medium is excellent in the dispersibility of the ferromagnetic powder of the magnetic layer, and in the balance of magnetic characteristics such as S/N ratio, a squareness ratio, and electromagnetic conversion characteristic, while keeping an excellent running durability.

Disclosed is a magnetic recording medium comprising a non-magnetic support, and a first magnetic layer, a second magnetic layer and a third magnetic layer laminated on a non-magnetic support surface in this order, a total layer thickness of the second magnetic layer and the third magnetic layer of 0.7 .mu.m or less, and a coercive force of a ferromagnetic powder contained in the third magnetic layer being 1.2 to 2.5 times as strong as a coercive force of a ferromagnetic powder contained in the first magnetic layer.

A magnetic recording medium is disclosed. The magnetic recording medium is capable of high density recording; has excellent electromagnetic conversion properties including S/N ratio; whose magnetic powder has good dispersibility and good corrosion resistance; and that has good durability. The magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer comprising a binder and magnetic metal powder dispersed in the binder. The powder has a specific surface area of not less than 45 m.sup.2 /g, and comprises not less than 90 atomic % of iron atoms, not less than 0.1 atomic % to less than 5 atomic % of aluminum atoms and not less than 0.1 atomic % to less than 10 atomic % of nickel atoms and the aluminum atoms present in the superficial portion of individual particles of the powder are bound with oxygen atoms.

A magnetic recording medium having excellent properties is disclosed. The recording medium comprises a non-magnetic support and provided thereon at least two magnetic layers, wherein the lower magnetic layer of the at least two layers has a Young's modulus which is larger than that of the upper magnetic layer and is not less than 800 kg/mm.sup.2.

A magnetic recording medium is disclosed. The surface of the magnetic layer has a Ns/Ns(t) ratio of 0.10 to 0.35, wherein the Ns is a number of spikes protruding from an average line of a surface roughness cross section curve by not less than 0.01 .mu.m and the Ns(t) is a total number of spikes protruding from the average line. The medium is improved in electromagnetic characteristics, contamination of magnetic head and rubbing noise.

A magnetic recording medium is disclosed. The magnetic recording medium is capable of high density recording; has excellent electromagnetic conversion properties including S/N ratio; whose magnetic powder has good dispersibility and good corrosion resistance; and that has good durability. The magnetic recording medium comprises a binder and magnetic metal powder dispersed in the binder and the magnetic metal powder has a specific surface area of not less than 45 m.sup.2 /g, and comprises comprise iron atoms and aluminum atoms in an abundance ratio of from 100:1 to 100:20 in terms of the number of atoms, and abundance ratio of iron atoms to aluminum atoms in the superficial portion of individual particles of the magnetic powder is from 30:70 to 70:30 in terms of the number of atoms.

A magnetic recording medium having plural magnetic layers is disclosed. The magnetic recording medium comprises a first magnetic layer containing magnetic powder having a coercive force of less than 800 Oe and a BET value of less than 45 m.sup.2 /g, a second magnetic layer containing magnetic powder having a coercive force of not less than 800 Oe and a BET value of less than 45 m.sup.2 /g and a third magnetic layer containing magnetic powder having a coercive force of not less than 800 Oe and a BET value of not less than 45 m.sup.2 /g, in this order.

A secondary battery prevents a localized formation of dendritic metal zinc during a charging and increases a current efficiency as far as possible. The secondary battery includes a negatively active material of a metallic ion, a positive electrode, a negative electrode and a separator having an metallic-ion-permeable sheet, a plurality of projections formed with a nonsymmetrical shape on opposite sides of the sheet and a diffusing means for diffusing a flow of zinc ion current flowing around the projection, and the diffusing means is provided in a vicinity of a connecting portion of the sheet and the projection.

A metal-halogen secondary battery has a high state of charging and a capability of storing a large electric power at a high density. In the secondary battery the electrolyte pressure in the positive electrode chamber is higher than the electrolyte pressure in the negative electrode chambers. The metal ions in the positive electrode chambers are permeated into the negative electrode chambers and reduced, and the halogen ions in the negative electrode chambers are also permeated into the positive electrode chambers and oxidized thereby contributing to the storage of the electric power.

A negative electrolyte for electrolyte circulation-type storage batteries has a composition basically comprising zinc bromide as an active material and this active material is mixed with specified amounts of quaternary ammonium bromides of heterocyclic compounds such as morpholine, pyridine and pyrrolidine or ammonia as a bromine complexing agent and a dendrite inhibitor with or without specified amounts of Sn.sup.2+ and Pb.sup.2+.

Electrolyte for zinc-bromine storage batteries

A dendrite inhibitor includes a quaternary ammonium salt and at least two metal ions selected from the group consisting of lead, tin and cadmium ions, and the inhibitor is used by adding it to an electrolyte for subjecting zinc to electrolysis through an electrochemical reaction.
