A displacement control apparatus is used for a variable displacement compressor. The compressor is driven by an internal combustion engine. The compressor has an inclining swash plate and a piston, which is reciprocated by the swash plate. The stroke of the piston is changed in accordance with the inclination angle of the swash plate. The displacement of the compressor is changed between a minimum displacement and a maximum displacement in accordance with the stroke of the piston. The apparatus includes an actuator coupled to the swash plate. The actuator is actuated by exhaust pressure or intake pressure from the engine. A controller changes the inclination angle of the swash plate by actuating the actuator.

The retainers of a reciprocating compressor are kept from deforming by the pressure of discharged refrigerant when there is a overload due to liquid compression and so forth, by linking inclined pieces with a gentle slope on the retainers serving as members for restricting the opening angle of the reed valve type discharge valves, with a linking member or by making the width dimension of the base portion of the inclined pieces with a gentle slope greater than the width dimension of the tip portion thereof, thereby improving the rigidity of the retainers, and consequently improving the reliability of the reciprocating compressor.

Compressor for a vehicle air conditioner

A compressor is described having front and rear cylinder blocks coupled to each other with a crank chamber defined therebetween. A swash plate is mounted on a drive shaft in the crank chamber. Double-headed pistons reciprocate in pairs of aligned cylinder bores. The swash plate divides the crank chamber into a plurality of sections. Holes formed in the swash plate permit flow of the refrigerant between the chamber sections. Recesses are formed radially inward and outward of a cam shoe contacting surface of the swash plate.

A double-headed swash-plate operated reciprocating piston type refrigerant compressor having front and rear cylinder blocks provided with axial cylinder bores for receiving the double-headed pistons reciprocated by a swash plate mounted on an axial drive shaft rotating about an axis of rotation thereof together with the swash plate which is axially and rigidly supported by front and rear thrust bearing assemblies including an elastic unit arranged between the thrust bearing of at least one of the front and rear thrust bearing assemblies and a pressure receiving seat formed in the shoulder portion of the swash plate, the elastic unit providing the swash plate with a axial mechanical support having a rigidity which changes in a stepwise manner in response to a change in a discharge pressure of the refrigerant compressed by the compressor.

Double-headed swash-plate operated reciprocating piston type compressor

A reciprocating piston type compressor for compressing refrigerant gas is provided with a main housing which includes a plurality of parallel cylinder bores arranged around the longitudinal axis of the cylinder block. The main housing has first and second cylinder blocks connected to each other by a plurality of bolts, the cylinder blocks including inner clamping faces and abutting faces. A plurality of pistons are slidably provided within the cylinder bores. An axially extending drive shaft is supported by the main housing for rotation through a pair of bearings. A swash plate is mounted on the drive shaft for rotation with the drive shaft. A pair of thrust bearings are provided between the swash plate and the inner clamping faces of the cylinder blocks to clamp and hold the swash plate therebetween. The clamping force on the thrust bearings from the inner clamping faces is controlled so that the clamping force does not exceed a predetermined allowable upper limit when the compressor is assembled.

Reciprocating piston compressor

A swash plate type compressor includes an improved thrust bearing for axially supporting the swash plate. The bearing is of a composite type, and includes at least two elastically deformable slide bearing elements. The swash plate and the cylinder block each have seat portions, which are of different diameters. The two bearing elements are compressed between the respective seat portions into an elastically deformed conically-shaped state, with the amount of conical deformation depending upon the amount of axial compression that is applied to the bearing by tightening the assembly bolts of the compressor. In operation, one of the conically shaped slide bearing elements is pressed outwardly against the other by centrifugal force as the compressor shaft rotates. During start up and low speed operation of the compressor, this centrifugal force will have minimal effect, and the bearing elements will rotate with respect to each other, keeping internal frictional resistance low. At higher speeds, however, the centrifugal force will both bind the bearing elements to move together as a unit and will impart additional supportive force to the swash plate that will tend to minimize vibration and noise during operation.

A boss on the swash plate has front and rear supporting seats and the cylinder block have front and rear supporting seats in a facing relationship with the front and rear supporting seats of the swash plate. One thrust bearing is rigidly arranged between the facing supporting seats. The other thrust bearing is held between the other facing supporting seats, with a belleville spring arranged between the thrust bearing and the supporting seat of the boss.

Bearing arrangement in swash plate type compressor with double headed

A compressor includes a drive shaft rotatably supported on cylinder block. A swash plate rotates in accordance with rotation of the drive shaft. A plurality of pistons reciprocate in the associated bores in the cylinder block in accordance with the rotation of the swash plate. First an second thrust bearings are provided in the cylinder block at both sides of the swash plate, and receive the axial loads applied to the swash plate and drive shaft according to the reciprocation of the pistons. The first thrust bearing has the first seat portion clamped at both sides by the swash plate and cylinder block and the second seat portion located apart from one of the swash plate and cylinder block.
