In one aspect, the present invention is an organic-inorganic hybrid membrane of a cerium oxide and an organic fluorine compound, the organic-inorganic hybrid membrane satisfying the following (a), (b), and (c): (a) the visible-light transmittance is 70% or higher; (b) the UV transmittance at a wavelength of 380 nm is 60% or lower; and (c) the water contact angle of the surface of the organic-inorganic hybrid membrane is 80&#xb0; or higher. In another aspect, the present invention is an organic-inorganic hybrid membrane of a cerium oxide and an organic fluorine compound, the organic-inorganic hybrid membrane satisfying the following (a), (b), and (c'): (a) the visible-light transmittance is 70% or higher; (b) the UV transmittance at a wavelength of 380 nm is 60% or lower; and (c&#x2032;) the water contact angle of the surface of the organic-inorganic hybrid membrane is 90&#xb0; or higher. The organic fluorine compound may include a fluorine-based resin. Also disclosed are a laminate and an article that include the organic-inorganic hybrid membrane.

This invention has an objective to improve durability at elevated temperature in organic electroluminescent devices using coumarin derivatives as dopant in a luminescent layer. This invention attains the above objective by providing in the organic electroluminescent devices formed by laminating an anode, a hole injection layer, a hole transportation layer, a luminescent layer, an electron transportation layer and a cathode in this order, the luminescent layer which comprises as dopant the green light-emitting coumarin derivative and hole- and electron-transporting substances as host; said coumarin derivative consisting of a plurality of coumarin groups bound to an aromatic ring, heterocycle, or any combination thereof, and exhibiting a glass transition point of 150&#xb0; C. or higher or a melting point of 297&#xb0; C. or higher.

Organic electroluminescent device

4-Cyanocoumarin derivatives which have a distinct sensitivity to visible light, distinct luminescent ability, and satisfactory applicability for photochemical polymerization, dye lasers, and organic electroluminescent elements. Since most of the derivatives have a fluorescent maximum wavelength of 600 to 650 nm, particularly, 610 to 630 nm, they are extremely useful as luminescent agents for organic EL elements which emit visible light in a red-color region, and can be quite useful as luminescent agents in organic EL elements and laser-active substances in dye lasers, as well as luminous bodies as lighting sources for lighting devices, and information displays for visually displaying information.

4-cyanocoumarin derivatives and uses thereof

An organic electroluminescent (EL) device which uses, as a luminescence-assisting agent, a novel coumarin derivative with a specific structure. The coumarin derivative effectively accelerates in such an organic EL device the transfer of excited energy in a host compound to a guest compound. Thus, the coumarin derivative affords the organic EL device which is superior in a color purity, luminescent efficiency and life expectancy when used in combination with appropriate host and guest compounds.

An organic electroluminescent (EL) device which contains a novel coumarin derivative composed of a coumarin ring, a naphthalene ring with one or more hydrocarbon groups, and a five-membered hetero ring condensed with the naphthalene ring so as to give an electronic resonance through the coumarin and naphthalene rings. The coumarin derivative emits a visible luminescence with a satisfactory color purity, which consistently continues over a long period of time even at an elevated temperature when used in such an organic device.

The invention provides electroluminescent (EL) elements, such that a red EL light source, a green EL light source and a blue EL light source emit red color light, green color light, and blue color light, respectively, and are disposed at the rear of liquid crystal display elements. Each EL light source includes an organic EL element in which an organic thin film emits light. Each EL light source has a structure in which an organic luminescent layer is sandwiched between an indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode and a metal electrode which have striped patterns which are orthogonal to each other, and sections (luminescent sections) at which the striped patterns of the ITO electrode and the metal electrode intersect with each other emit light. The photocatalytic material has acquired a new energy level formed in a band gap of titanium oxide, which results in its exhibition of a photocatalytic activity by absorbing visible lights. The photocatalytic material can thus exhibit a satisfactory photocatalytic activity under sunlight and also in a room with a fluorescent lamp.

A Ti&mdash;O&mdash;N film is formed on an SiO substrate by sputtering. For example, TiO is used as a target and nitrogen gas is introduced into the atmosphere. Crystallization is carried out by a post-sputtering heat treatment. Then a charge separation material such as Pt is supported on the Ti&mdash;O&mdash;N film. With the fabricated TiO crystals, the Ti&mdash;O&mdash;N film containing nitrogen exhibits a good catalytic reaction by using visible light as acting light. Since the charge separation material captures electrons or positive holes, recombination of electrons and positive holes is effectively prevented, and consequently more efficient photocatalytic reaction is performed. It is preferable to form a photocatalyst material film (Ti&mdash;Cr&mdash;O&mdash;N film) by sputtering the SiO substrate by use of TiO and Cr as the target in a nitrogen atmosphere. Crystallization is performed by a post-sputtering heat treatment.
