It is an aim to provide a tip unit for a liquid applicator and a liquid applicator that make written (applied) lines to change in thickness and give excellent durability. A tip unit used for a liquid applicator includes a ball house having an opening at its distal end and an introduction channel for application liquid in communication with the ball house, wherein the ball house holds therein at least two balls having a leading ball and an adjacent ball next to the leading ball, the balls being serially lined in an axial direction of the tip unit, the leading ball being partly exposed outside from the opening, and the leading ball being softer than the adjacent ball.

A liquid applicator adapted to prevent an application liquid from leaking or drying with a small biasing force. A tip unit for a liquid applicator of the present invention includes a tubular member and a valve member. The valve member is biased toward a distal end thereof by a biasing member so as to seal a distal opening portion of the tubular member. The distal opening portion includes a first tapered surface and a second tapered surface located at a proximal side of the first tapered surface. The first and the second tapered surfaces are in contact with a tapered area and a ring of the valve member, respectively, so as to seal the distal opening portion.

Liquid applicator

In a water-based ink composition of the present invention, 2.5 to 50 wt % of white-colored resin particles and 2.5 to 50 wt % of film-forming resin emulsions in a solid content are contained with respect to the total amount of the ink, the ratio of said white-colored resin particles to film-forming resin emulsions is 1:0.2 to 1:3, and not less than 20 wt % of said white-colored resin particles and film-forming resin emulsions in a solid content are contained in total.

Water-based ink composition

A tip unit () incorporated in a liquid applicator such as a ball-point pen, the tip unit being capable of an increased rate of liquid discharge with no leaking or clogging problem. To achieve it, the tip unit () is accommodated in a tip body () having a ball housing (), a ball (), a capillary hole (), and a proximal bore, the ball housing () being a passage for allowing liquid to flow therethrough, the ball () being rotatively held in the ball housing (). A method for producing a tip unit for a liquid applicator including: a first process of shaping the contour of a tip body in the form of a truncated conical surface; a second process of forming a ball housing having an open end at its distal end in the tip body; a third process of placing a ball into the ball housing; a fourth process of scraping the peripheral side of the distal end portion of the tip body to form a peripherally scraped portion after the first process; and a fifth process of deforming the peripherally scraped distal end portion of the tip body toward the ball.

Method of producing applicator tip

The ink of the present invention comprises at least a three-dimensional film-forming component and water, comprises an adhesive synthetic resin emulsion as said three-dimensional film-forming component, and comprises at least 30% by weight of said adhesive synthetic resin emulsion on the basis of the solid content with respect to the total amount of the ink, and minimum film-forming temperature (MFT) of said adhesive synthetic resin emulsion is not greater than 25&#xb0; C. and further, said ink comprises 1 to 3% by weight of a film-forming assistant with respect to the total amount of the ink.

The object of the present invention is to provide a double-color ink which is capable of producing a double-color effect stably for a long period of time. The present invention relates to a double-color ink comprising (1) metal powder pigments, (2) water, (3) at least one water-soluble organic solvent selected from the group consisting of alcohols, glycols and glycol ethers having a branched hydrophobic group(s) and (4) at least one water-soluble dye selected from the group consisting of anthraquinone dyes, carbonium dyes and metal complex dyes; and a writing utensil using the same as an ink.

A ball for a ball-point pen is provided which is composed of a sintered material obtained by sintering hard particles and having an average inter-particle diameter of not greater than 0.2 &mgr;m. The gaps between the hard particles are very small and, therefore, very few minute fragments of the hard particles are exposed from binder metal portions on the surface of the ball and fall off to act as an abrasive during use of the ball-point pen. Thus, abrasion of a pen tip body and sinkage of the ball into the pen tip body can be prevented.

An applicator that makes it unlikely for an ink, particularly water-based or alcohol solvent ink, to become blurred and assures smooth writing, including an ink reservoir accommodating an ink, a penpoint tip for ink application, and a valve mechanism, wherein the valve mechanism has an axially movable valve body, a valve seat situated on the side of the ink reservoir with respect to the valve body, and a valve support situated on the side of the tip with respect to the valve body; the valve support can anchor the valve body and has an interstice between it and the valve body through which the ink passes; when the tip is disposed upward, the valve body contacts the valve seat to prevent backflow of ink from the tip toward the ink reservoir; and when the tip is disposed downward, the valve body contacts the valve support, allowing the ink to flow through the interstice toward the tip; characterized in that a portion of the valve body that contacts the valve support is formed spherical, and the projected area of the interstice not covered by the valve body produced by projecting the valve body and the interstice onto a plane perpendicular to the axis is 0.035 mm,or more.

A writing implement having a sleeve formed with a bore extending therethrough axially of the implement, a barrel inserted in the bore of the sleeve and retractably projectable forward from the forward end of the sleeve, and a closure so shaped as to close the forward end opening of the sleeve bore. At least the forward end portion of the sleeve and the closure are made of a magnetic material, and at least one of the sleeve forward end portion and the closure is formed by a magnet so as to attract the other. The closure is connected to the sleeve by a connecting member made of an elastic material so as to be movable between a position where the closure closes the forward end opening of the sleeve bore and a position where the closure opens the forward end opening to permit the barrel to project forward. The closure is biased by the connecting member toward the sleeve to a position where the closure is attractable by the sleeve.
