The present invention relates to an engine control device adapted to determine a basic fuel feed rate (Tp) in response to signals from a suction air flow rate sensor (20) and an air-fuel ratio sensor (20), and thereafter a fuel feed rate (Ti). According to the present invention, suction air flow rates (Q.sub.An-1, Q.sub.An-2) are calculated first on the basis of the last and the next to last fuel feed rates (Tin-1, Tin-2). The coefficients (A, B) required to correct the properties of the suction air flow rate sensor (20) are computed on the basis of these suction air flow rates. In the present invention, a fuel feed rate is determined finally on the basis of these coefficients.

Engine control device

An electronic spark timing advancing apparatus for an internal combustion engine having an ignition device is disclosed, wherein a crank angle at which an internal pressure of a cylinder of the engine assumes a peak value is detected and a desired crank angle at which the internal pressure of the cylinder is to assume a peak value under a given condition is calculated in accordance with that condition, and a spark timing of the ignition device is controlled in response to a deviation therebetween to minimize the deviation.

Electronic spark timing advancing apparatus

Method and apparatus for controlling the spark timing of an internal combustion engine is provided, wherein the output of a sensor for detecting the state of a means affecting the engine operation is detected prior to engine start, and the detected value is stored as an initial value. After engine start, the output of the sensor for detecting the state of the means affecting the engine operation is again detected, and this detected value is corrected by the stored initial value. On the basis of the corrected detected value, a command value of ignition point in time (command ignition timing) is calculated and used to control ignition timing.

Method and apparatus for controlling spark timing of internal combustion

An up-counter counts pulses of a first pulse train of a variable frequency during each pulse-duration of pulses generated corresponding to the angular position of a crankshaft of an engine. The so counted value is transferred to a down-counter which counts pulses of a second pulse train with a constant frequency so as to diminish its transferred content. The down-counter produces an output signal as an ignition timing signal when its content decreases down to a predetermined value. In the ignition timing control device of such type, the first pulse train of the variable frequency can be provided by a novel advance angle establishing means in which a given short time period is divided into two time portions and from which two pulse trains of different frequency from each other are outputted for the respective time portions, the ratio of sharing being controlled in accordance with the number of revolutions of the engine and the opening value of the throttle.

Electronic ignition timing control device for internal combustion engines

In an ignition system wherein an ignition timing signal generated in synchronism with the engine rotation is detected by a detecting transistor and a base current of a power transistor adapted to control a primary current of an ignition coil is controlled by the detected ignition timing signal thereby to generate a high voltage across a secondary side of the ignition coil; the primary current of the ignition coil is controlled by the power transistor not to exceed a predetermined value, a time interval during which the primary current of the ignition coil is restricted to the predetermined value is detected by a change in collector voltage of the power transistor, i.e. an output thereof, and a conduction starting point for the primary current of ignition coil is controlled by the output of the power transistor.

Ignition system for internal combustion engines

An ignition apparatus for an internal combustion engine, wherein the energization time of the primary winding of the ignition coils is maintained constant regardless of the engine revolutions, is provided with reference time signal generator means within the apparatus. The reference time signal thus produced from the reference time signal generator means is compared with an actual energization time, and the time difference therebetween is negatively fed back to the energization time signal generator means, thereby controlling the energization time in such a way as to always approximate the reference time.

Ignition apparatus for internal combustion engine

A dilute air-fuel mixture operation as a method for purifying exhaust gas is effective for reducing simultaneously carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (HC), and nitrogen oxides (NOx) contained in the engine exhaust. However, such operation reduces engine power remarkably. Though a reciprocating internal combustion engine having first and second spark plugs has been introduced to compensate this disadvantage, it has in turn brought about the problem that there is a tendency of increasing quantities of nitrogen oxides. While an increase of the interval between the firing of the two plugs may control an increase of nitrogen oxides, this results in a reduction of engine power. A most effective method of exhaust purification is to control an ignition system such that the interval between the firing of two plugs is made short only when high engine power is required, and the firing interval is made comparatively long in the normal operation of the engine.
