The internal combustion engine includes a fan cover that covers a cooling fan driven by a crankshaft, a top cover that covers the fan cover, and a cooling air passage between the fan cover and the top cover. The fan cover includes a first rib facing the top cover in the cooling air passage.

Internal combustion engine

In an engine, an air cleaner and a muffler are located laterally opposite to each other with an engine body therebetween, the air cleaner and the muffler are located forward of the engine body in the longitudinal direction, a fuel tank is longer laterally than longitudinally when viewed from above and is located rearward of the engine body in the longitudinal direction, and an oil filler port which is sealed by a cap is provided to the fuel tank at a position laterally deviated leftward. A level gauge, which can be visually recognized when the cap is removed and the oil filler port is viewed from above and from the front side longitudinally, is provided inside the fuel tank.

Engine and work machine

An engine is provided with: an engine body; and a top cover that covers the engine body, wherein at least a pair of engaging claws are provided to lateral walls, on both sides, of the top cover so as to extend downward, and a pair of engaging holes with which the engaging claws engage are provided to the engine body side. Each of the engaging claws is provided with a plate section that is provided so as to extend downward, and a bulging section that is provided to the leading end of the plate section and that bulges inward from the plate section, and the bulging section engages with the bottom surface of an inner wall section of the corresponding engaging hole.

In an apparatus for detecting tip-over of a rammer equipped with a crankcase accommodating an output shaft rotatably connected to an engine, a movable unit accommodating a converter mechanism for converting rotation of the output shaft to vertical motion of a movable member, a tamping shoe connected to the movable unit, and a handle operable by an user, and adapted to thrust upward in the gravitational direction by the vertical motion of the movable member and go into a free fall to compact a ground surface, it is determined whether a detected engine speed becomes equal to or smaller than a threshold value set lower than an engine idling speed when the engine has been operated at a rammer working speed set greater than the engine idling speed, and if it does, it is discriminated that the rammer has tipped over.

A fuel tank comprises an upper-half tank body () and a lower-half tank body () which are made of bowl-shaped steel plates and which integrally include a flange () and a flange () in their peripheral edges, respectively, the flanges () being superposed on and liquid-tightly connected to each other. The flanges () are connected together by crimping into a roll shape to form an annular thick-walled connection (), and an annular reinforcing rib () leading to the connection () is formed at least in one of the upper-half and lower-half tank bodies (). Thus, it is possible to provide a fuel tank in which a sufficient strength can be imparted to portions around a flange connection, without particularly increasing the thickness of a steel plate.

Fuel tank

A float-type oil-level detection apparatus is provided for detecting the surface of engine oil. A housing () for housing a float () has a through-hole () in the sidewall of the side opposite from the sidewall that faces the movement of the oil dipper ().

Liquid level detection apparatus for engine oil

A tank cap includes: a synthetic-resin cap body () mounted on a fuel supply port cylinder () of a conductive fuel tank, (T); a conductive cap shell () coupled to an upper part of the cap body (); and a gasket () provided in the cap body () and in close contact with a sealing surface () of the fuel supply port cylinder (). The cap body () and the cap shell () are linked to be mutually rotatable. A ratchet mechanism () is mounted between the cap shell () and the cap body (). An elastic contact piece () elastically and slidably contacting an inner peripheral surface of a cylindrical peripheral wall () of the cap shell () is integrally projectingly provided on an outer periphery of the gasket (). Thus, it is possible to cause static electricity carried by an operator to escape to a fuel tank through the gasket.

An engine air cleaner includes a cleaner element unit is housed within the upper cover body, and a skirt wall of the upper cover body extends further downward than the suction opening. A seal packing and the cleaner element unit are superimposed and fitted onto an outer periphery of an intake passage within the cleaner cover body. The seal packing is provided with a retaining projection that is tightly engaged with the intake passage. An air cleaner is disposed to be side by side with one side of the engine, a lower part of the cleaner cover body is joined integrally to and supported on the engine together with a carburetor via a pair of connecting bolts, and a reinforcing vertical wall portion of the cleaner cover body facing the engine across a gap is joined integrally to and supported on the engine via another connecting bolt.

In an working machine in which: an engine and a fuel tank for the engine are mounted on a machine body; an air cleaner mounted outside the machine body has a cleaner case including a cylindrical case body and a lid body being mounted on one end of the case body, and a cleaner element being housed in the cleaner case and dividing the inside of the cleaner case into a pre-purification chamber and a post-purification chamber; and an air-outlet pipe is connected to an intake system of the engine with an intake duct interposed therebetween, a canister capable of absorbing a vaporized fuel generated in the fuel tank is attached to the fuel tank or the machine body; a purge joint communicating with the post-purification chamber is provided to the lid body of the air cleaner; and a purge conduit extending from the canister is connected to the purge joint. Accordingly, it is possible to take a vaporized fuel generated in the fuel tank into the engine by utilizing the lid body of the air cleaner.

A fuel supply system for a general purpose internal combustion engine is equipped with a sub-fuel tank that retains gasoline fuel supplied from a main fuel tank and houses the high-pressure pump in its interior. In other words, the pump is immersed in the gasoline fuel retained in the tank, so that if an air pocket should occur in the fuel supply pipe between the main fuel tank and pump, the air will be discharged from the sub-fuel tank to the exterior through a fuel return pipe etc., thereby ensuring that the pump does not suck in air. Since fuel injectors can therefore inject gasoline fuel immediately, starting performance is enhanced.

Fuel supply system for general purpose engine

In a carburetor mounting structure, a stud bolt is implanted in a carburetor mounting portion, a screw hole is provided in the carburetor mounting portion, first and second mounting flanges include first bolt holes through which the stud bolt passes, and second bolt holes into which a tap bolt is screwed, and the first bolt hole of the first mounting flange is formed into a notched shape so as to allow the stud bolt to be inserted into the first bolt hole from an outside of the first mounting flange. Thus, it is possible to provide a carburetor mounting structure wherein mounting of a carburetor by a stud bolt is possible even if only a small space exists outward of an outer end of the stud bolt.

The invention provides an air-cleaner filter material for an internal combustion engine, which comprises a dust-collecting layer comprising a melt-blown nonwoven fabric having a maximum pore size of 100 &#x3bc;m or less and a dust-retaining layer arranged upstream of the dust-collecting layer and laminated integrally by heat fusion with, the dust-collecting layer, comprising a thermal-bond nonwoven fabric having fibers with two or more fiber diameters arranged in the order of increasing the proportion of smaller fiber diameter in the direction from the upstream to downstream side, wherein the in-plane of the filter material has a portion of high fiber density and a portion of low fiber density, and the portion of high fiber density occurs in a lattice pattern.

Air-cleaner filter material for internal combustion engine and air-cleaner element

A tank cap having an upper breather chamber, a lower breather chamber and a separator having a communication bore permitting communication between the chambers. An auxiliary separator in the lower breather chamber is connected to the separator and is provided with upper and lower transverse bores extending from an annular chamber section surrounding upper and lower central chamber sections in the lower breather chamber to the upper and lower central chamber sections, respectively. This arrangement provides an effective damping function against liquid entering into the lower breather chamber to inhibit the flowing of the liquid from the lower breather chamber into the upper breather chamber.

Tank cap

A snow shoveling machine comprising an engine and an auger housing accommodating therein an auger paddle. The engine is actuated to thereby rotate the auger paddle. The auger housing includes an upper half and a lower half. The upper half is made from resin. The lower half is formed of a sheet of steel. The upper and lower halves are connected to each other through a connecting member. The connecting member serves a function of reinforcing the auger housing. As snow collected by the auger paddle is thrown upwardly into a snow throwing aperture formed in the upper half, some snow fails to enter the aperture. The connecting member serves to allow such snow to fall to the auger paddle.
