An abrasion detecting apparatus is configured to detect the abrasion of a component of a cutter head of a tunnel boring machine, which is configured to excavate ground using a cutter to bore a tunnel. The abrasion detecting apparatus includes an abrasion detection probe located rearward of a front end of the cutter by a predetermined distance and located forward or rearward of a front end of the component, whose abrasion is to be detected, of the cutter head by a predetermined distance, where the abrasion detection probe includes an abrasion detecting portion at a front end portion thereof. The abrasion detecting portion abrades away by contact with the ground to be excavated. The abrasion detecting apparatus also includes a detecting device configured to detect an abrasion of the abrasion detecting portion.

A shield machine including an excavator capable of excavating tunnels of various cross-sectional shapes, the excavator including: a rotary drum supported at a front end side portion of a shield machine main body to be rotatable around a first center axis; a cutter supporting frame supported by the rotary drum to be rotatable around a second center axis; a rotary cutter head supported by the cutter supporting frame to be rotatable around a third center axis and including a plurality of cutter bits on a surface thereof; a rotary auxiliary cutter head supported by the rotary drum to be rotatable around a fourth center axis; and first, third, and fourth rotating mechanisms, and a swinging drive mechanism configured to respectively cause the rotary drum, the rotary cutter head, the rotary auxiliary cutter head, and the cutter supporting frame to independently rotate.

Shield machine

A tunnel boring machine for boring a tunnel through hard and soft grounds includes a front body, a cutter head mounted to the front body and having a cutter for boring a hard round, and a drive unit rotatably supporting the cutter head for driving the cutter head. A main beam is operatively connected to the cutter head drive unit and extends rearward therefrom. A gripper body is supported by a rear end portion of the main beam to be slidable in an axial direction thereof and is provided with a main gripper to be movable along an radial direction of the main beam. A first thrust jack is mounted to be fitted between the main gripper and the main beam for advancing the cutter head and the cutter head drive unit. A shield shell is disposed so as to surround the cutter head drive unit. A second thrust jack is disposed in the shield shell, and a front gripper is mounted to the shield shell to be movable out of and into the shield shell.

Tunnel boring machine for hard ground and soft ground

A tunnel excavator has a substantially tubular shield having rotatably mounted on one end a motor-driven cutting disk rotatably carrying a multiplicity of roller cutters. The shield is comprised of a head section having front anchors in addition to the cutting disk, an inner section telescopically nested in the head section and constrained to only axial displacement relative to the same, and a tail section having rear anchors and coupled to the inner section for both bending and rolling movements relative to the same. Hydraulic push jacks act between the head and tail shield sections for advancing the shield. A pair of hydraulically independent antirolling jacks are connected between the inner and tail shield sections so as to enable the tail shield section, which is anchored during excavation, to bear against the rolling of the head shield section.
