To provide a recording and reproducing method for dye-based recordable DVD media, including: recording a mark of the shortest length on a dye-containing recording layer of a dye-based recordable DVD medium using single pulse whose front edge is energized; recording marks other than the shortest thereon using single pulse whose front and rear edges are energized for a given duration, the power of the front edge of pulse being equal to that of the front edge of pulse for the shortest mark, the power of the rear edge of pulse being equal to that of the rear edge of pulse for the shortest mark; and reproducing recorded information using a reproduction beam, wherein the irradiation intensity of cooling pulse provided after the rear edge of pulse upon mark recording is 0.1 mW or less for a given duration, and the recording linear velocity is 42 m/s or more.

Recording and reproducing method for dye-based recordable DVD medium and apparatus for the same

An object is to provide a recording and reproducing method of a dyestuff-based, write-once DVD medium which can obtain a good recording waveform at a time of carrying out high linear speed recording. To this end, there are provided a recording and reproducing method and a recording and reproducing apparatus of a dyestuff-based, write-once DVD medium in which each mark other than a shortest length mark is recorded on a recording layer at an optical recording medium formed by having at least a recording layer containing an organic dyestuff on a substrate having a guide groove at which a high-frequency wobble is provided, by using one pulse light at which two places which are a leading portion and a trailing end portion of a heating pulse are made to be high-output for a given time and at which a pulse light power of the leading portion of the heating pulse is greater than a pulse light power of the trailing end portion, and the recording is reproduced by reproducing light.

Optical recording medium, recording and reproducing method, and recording and reproducing apparatus using heating pulses which are high-output at leading and trailing ends

A recording method of recording information in a dye-based write-once digital versatile disc (DVD) containing a substrate having a wobbled guide groove and a recording layer containing an organic dye. Recording is performed by irradiating the DVD with three kinds of single light pulses. Each single pulse contains a recording area to record a mark and a cooling area having a light quantity not greater than 0.1 mW for a predetermined time. When the mark having a shortest length is formed, the DVD is irradiated with a first single light pulse. When the mark having a second shortest length is formed, the DVD is irradiated with a second single light pulse. When the mark having a third shortest length or longer is formed, the DVD is irradiated with a third single light pulse.

Recording and reading method and device for dye based write-once DVD medium

A recording and reproducing method, wherein, on recording and reproduction of a recordable DVD medium, which has a recording layer containing an organic dye on a substrate having a guide groove with wobble, wherein linear velocity conditions for CLV recording is recorded on the substrate, recording starts at a linear velocity less than a highest linear velocity at the innermost circumference; when the linear velocity is switched over to the highest linear velocity on the way, a comparison is made between an optimum recording power of Po at the highest recording velocity that is temporarily optimized by test-writing in a power measurement area at the outermost circumference and an optimum recording power of Pi at the highest linear velocity that is recorded in the substrate; in the case of Po&#x3e;Pi, a value given by the formula of '(Po+Pi)/2+(Po&#x2212;Pi)Pi' is employed as a recording power with which recording starts at the highest linear velocity; and in the case of Po&#x2266;Pi, Pi is employed.

Method for recording/reproducing dye-based recordable DVD medium and apparatus thereof

The object of the present invention is to provide an optical recording medium in which a recording material of the optical recording medium has a high solubility in an organic solvent, so that the recording material can be shaped to film by a coating process and the recording material is excellent in light-resistance and stability during the preservation, so that the optical recording medium is applicable to the recordable DVD. For the object, the present invention provides the optical recording medium comprising a substrate and at least a recording medium disposed on the substrate, wherein the recording medium comprises at least one type of formazan-metal chelate dyes.

Recording and reproducing method for dye based recordable optical recording medium and apparatus using the same

In an optical recording method and apparatus for an optical storage medium, a recording pulse pattern having a sequence of multiple pulses is used to record one of plural kinds of marks with different lengths on the storage medium through a variable-linear-velocity recording process or a constant-angular-velocity recording process. Two or more discrete write powers are individually allocated to the respective pulses of the recording pulse pattern. Each of the write powers, allocated to the respective pulses of the recording pulse pattern, is linearly varied in proportion with a change of one of the recording linear velocity and a recording position of the storage medium. The resulting recording pulse pattern is supplied to a pickup, and the pickup emits a light beam to the storage medium in accordance with the recording pulse pattern having the linearly varied write powers allocated to the respective pulses, so that one of the plural kinds of marks is recorded on the storage medium.
