A sealed storage battery that is easy to produce, has a low short circuit risk, and has an improved total energy density is provided. A battery includes a first metal sheet having a recessed portion, the recessed portion having a flange portion at its periphery, a multilayer electrode assembly housed in the recessed portion, and a second metal sheet covering the flange portion and the recessed portion. The first metal sheet and the second metal sheet also serve as electrodes. The flange portion is joined to the second metal sheet with a hot-melt resin. A joint between the flange portion and the second metal sheet is folded back toward the recessed portion. An outer edge of the flange portion folded back toward the recessed portion protrudes relative to an outer edge of the second metal sheet folded back toward the recessed portion.

A sealed cell with a film outer casing body having a flat electrode body is prevented from short circuiting damage due to impacts. The flat electrode body has first and second electrodes and a separator therebetween, which are wound into a flat shape having first and second flat side surface R portions. The first electrode is the outermost surface of the electrode body. An insulation film is provided between the outermost portion of the first electrode and a portion of the second electrode immediately inside the outermost portion, and between the portion of the second electrode and another portion of the first electrode immediately inside the portion of the second electrode.

Sealed cell using film outer casing body

An object of the present invention is to provide a battery having a film-type casing which is excellent in energy density as well as in strength. Disclosed is a battery having a film-type casing that houses an electrode body, the casing being formed of a film folded together, and the electrode body being formed of at least one positive electrode plate and negative electrode plate laminated together with a separator sandwiched between the electrode plates and having at least one rectangular-shaped outer surface, the battery comprising a reinforcing sheet attached the electrode body so as to cover an area of the rectangular-shaped outer surface corresponding to at least one corner of the positive electrode plate. With this structure, an impact of a drop to a corner of the casing is absorbed by the reinforcing sheet, which prevents the positive electrode from tearing the separator and thus from electrically shorting with the negative electrode plate. The present invention is especially effective when the negative electrode plate and positive electrode plate are band-shaped, the negative electrode plate is wider than the positive electrode plate, and the electrode body is a spiral electrode body formed by winding the positive electrode plate and the negative electrode plate together with the separator sandwiched therebetween.

This is achieved by a cell comprising a non-aqueous electrolyte containing propylene carbonate and LiN(SO C F ) as an electrolyte salt, a graphite negative electrode, and a positive electrode having a positive electrode active material comprising a Ti-attached LiCoO in which a particle of titanium and/or titanium compound is attached on a surface of a particle of lithium cobalt oxide and a mole ratio of titanium and/or titanium compound in the Ti-attached LiCoO is within the range of from 0.00001 to 0.02.

Solid polyelectrolyte is sandwiched between a negative electrode active layer and a positive electrode active layer. A monomer composite gel of macromolecule compound, solute, and solvent is applied onto the positive electrode active layer, part of this monomer composite gel is impregnated into the positive electrode active layer, and the system is polymerized to yield a solid polyelectrolyte-positive electrode active layer laminate.

An efficient manufacturing method for a polymer solid electrolyte cell of superior cell capacity and cell characteristics which uses said composite positive electrode additionally includes a process for arranging a polymer solid electrolyte precursor on a negative electrode, a process for arranging a current collector single body composite positive electrode on the electrolyte precursor on the surface of the negative electrode so that the positive and negative electrodes face each other with electrolyte precursor in-between, and a process for hardening the electrolyte precursor to form a polymer solid electrolyte film, at a same time attaching said film to the positive electrode by using heat or ionizing radiation to polymerize the polymer solid electrolyte precursor.
