An optical filter is configured to selectively pass, as an output light, at least one wavelength component of multiple wavelength components included in an input light. The optical filter comprises a movable element. A controller is configured to adjust a passband by controlling the movable element based on power of light corresponding to the output light measured by a power monitor. The optical filter is configured as a filter so that in a first wavelength band including a center wavelength of the passband, a gain curve corresponds to a convex function having a peak at the center wavelength and in a second wavelength band adjacent to the first wavelength band, the gain curve shows a stepper slope than the convex function.

Optical transmission system

A liquid crystal device according to one aspect of the present disclosure includes a liquid crystal layer and an electrode layer. The electrode layer is configured to create an electric field in the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal composition that includes a liquid crystal mixture, to which a polymerization inhibitor for inhibiting radical polymerization caused by light action is added. In particular, the liquid crystal layer includes the liquid crystal composition in which a hindered amine based organic compound is added to the liquid crystal mixture as the polymerization inhibitor.

Liquid crystal device, optical system, spatial phase modulator, and method of manufacturing liquid crystal device

An optical system in one aspect of the present disclosure includes a first light source, a second light source, a first spatial optical phase modulator, a second spatial optical phase modulator, and a projector. The first spatial optical phase modulator outputs first phase-modulated light based on an input light having a first wavelength from the first light source. The second spatial optical phase modulator outputs second phase-modulated light based on input light having a second wavelength from the second light source. The projector projects the first phase-modulated light and the second phase-modulated light on a target. The first spatial optical phase modulator is a liquid crystal device including a first liquid crystal layer. The second spatial optical phase modulator is a liquid crystal device including a second liquid crystal layer. The first liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal material different from that of the second liquid crystal layer.

Optical system

A liquid crystal device in one aspect of the present disclosure includes a liquid crystal layer, and an electrode layer configured to form an electric field in the liquid crystal layer. The liquid crystal layer includes a liquid crystal composition in which an organic compound having a property of inhibiting a polymerization reaction caused by light action is added to a liquid crystal mixture as a polymerization inhibitor.

A tunable filter includes: an optical input/output unit; a first mirror having a first reflective surface disposed to reflect input light from the optical input/output unit; a transmissive diffraction grating disposed on a propagation path of the input light reflected by the first mirror; and a second mirror having a second reflective surface disposed to reflect transmitted diffracted light from the transmissive diffraction grating corresponding to the input light. The first reflective surface is a variable-angle reflective surface. The second reflective surface has a fixed orientation relative to the transmissive diffraction grating.

Variable wavelength filter

An optical device includes a fiber array that has input optical fibers, a lens array that has lenses, a photodiode array that photodiodes, a first spacer disposed between the fiber array and the lens array, and a second spacer disposed between the lens array and the photodiode array. Each of the lenses collimates input light from a corresponding input optical fiber, from among the input optical fibers. Each of the photodiodes receives the input light collimated by a corresponding lens, from among the lenses, and outputs an electrical signal according to a power of the received input light. The first spacer transmits the input light from each of the input optical fibers to a corresponding lens from among the lenses. The fiber array, the first spacer, the lens array, the second spacer, and the photodiode array are laminated.

An optical device includes: wavelength selection elements; an optical switch that switches a propagation path of input light that is from an input port such that the input light propagates to one designated wavelength selection element among the wavelength selection elements; and a separation element disposed in the propagation path of the input light between the input port and the wavelength selection elements and that separates the input light into wavelength components.

Optical device

A liquid-crystal spatial phase modulator includes: a liquid-crystal layer; a transparent electrode layer above the liquid-crystal layer; a lower electrode layer disposed below the liquid-crystal layer; a first heat-resistant layer that has higher thermal resistance than the transparent electrode layer and is disposed above and adjacent to the transparent electrode layer; and a second heat-resistant layer that has higher thermal resistance than the transparent electrode layer and is disposed between the transparent electrode layer and the liquid-crystal layer and adjacent to the transparent electrode layer. Light from above passes through the transparent electrode layer.

Spatial phase modulator

A variable wavelength filter includes: an input optical fiber; a diffraction grating that disperses input light from the input optical fiber; a variable mirror that has a reflective surface, wherein an angle of the reflective surface is adjustable, the variable mirror reflects the input light dispersed by the diffraction grating, the input light reflected by the variable mirror passes through a normal optical path, the input light that passes through the normal optical path has a wavelength band defined based on the angle of the reflective surface, and the defined wavelength band has a center wavelength corresponding to the angle of the reflective surface; an output optical fiber that outputs a portion of the input light that has passed through the normal optical path; and an optical detector disposed on a propagation path of the input light from the input optical fiber to the output optical fiber.

Tunable filter

An integrated optical device includes: a housing; a liquid-crystal optical power attenuator, an optical splitter, and an optical power monitor housed inside the housing; and first and second optical fibers housed inside the housing. The first optical fibers input an optical signal from outside the housing to the optical power attenuator. In a polarized state, the optical power attenuator attenuates the optical signal from the first optical fibers. The second optical fibers output the attenuated optical signal from the optical power attenuator to outside the housing. The optical splitter generates a split signal by splitting at least one of: the optical signal input to the optical power attenuator from the first optical fibers, and the attenuated optical signal propagated from the optical power attenuator to the second optical fibers. The optical power monitor receives the split signal and detects a power of the split signal.

Integrated optical device

An optical power attenuator includes: a MEMS package storing a MEMS element that can control a reflection angle of light by a mirror; a capillary member provided to one end of a two-core optical fiber that transmits the light and that has an end surface on a side that inputs/outputs the light to the two-core optical fiber tilted at a predetermined angle relative to an optical axis of the two-core optical fiber; and a lens that causes a light emitted from one of the optical fibers of the two-core optical fiber to become incident on the MEMS element via the capillary member and guides the reflected light reflected by the mirror of the MEMS element to the other optical fiber of the two-core optical fiber.

Optical power attenuator

A detection device is provided with a light-receiving module configured to output an electrical signal according to a power of an input light received at a light-receiving surface, an optical lens configured to collimate and guide to the light-receiving surface the input light from the outside, and at least one condensing unit that is provided in a path of the input light between the optical lens and the light-receiving surface and configured to decrease a beam diameter of the input light at the light-receiving surface.

Detection device

A detection device for detecting a power of an input light is provided with a light-receiving module that outputs an electrical signal according to a power of an input light received at a light-receiving surface and an optical system that collimates and guides to the light-receiving surface the input light from the outside. Moreover, this detection device is provided with a structure that decreases an incidence angle of the input light at an interface between the optical system and the light-receiving surface.

Detection device and manufacturing method of detection device

A detection device is provided with a holding body that holds a light-receiving module, an optical fiber pigtail, and a lens. The light-receiving module is provided with a light-receiving element and a stem that supports the light-receiving element. The lens collimates an input light from one end of an input fiber and guides a portion of the input light to the light-receiving element. The lens separates the input light into a transmitted light and a reflected light, guiding the transmitted light to the light-receiving element and guiding the reflected light to an output fiber. The light-receiving element has a center of a light-receiving surface thereof disposed in a position away from an axis of the stem.
