A toner for electrophotography comprising a charge control agent comprising a specified iron-azo complex or a specified metal compound of a benzilic acid derivative, a colorant, and a resin binder comprising a polyester, the polyester being a polyester obtained by polycondensing an alcohol component containing a propylene oxide adduct of bisphenol A and a carboxylic acid component, wherein the propylene oxide adduct of bisphenol A has an average mole of propylene oxide added of from 2.4 to 4.0, and wherein an adduct with 2 mol of propylene oxide is contained in an amount of 60% by mol or less, and an adduct with 4 mol of propylene oxide is contained in an amount of 10% by mol or more, of the propylene oxide adduct of bisphenol A, and wherein the propylene oxide adduct of bisphenol A has a content ratio of primary hydroxyl groups of 10% by mol or less of the entire hydroxyl groups. The toner for electrophotography of the present invention is suitably used in developing latent images and the like formed in electrophotography, electrostatic recording method, electrostatic printing method or the like.

The present invention relates to a process for producing an alkyleneoxide adduct, including the steps of reacting an aliphatic alcohol containing a hydrocarbon group having 6 to 22 carbon atoms with an alkyleneoxide in the presence of a catalyst to obtain a reaction product containing an alkyleneoxide adduct; and subjecting the reaction product successively to acid treatment and reduction treatment, and an alkyleneoxide adduct having a carbonyl value of 5 &#x3bc;mol/g or less. The alkyleneoxide adduct is useful as a raw material of various anionic surfactants, and the anionic surfactants derived from the alkyleneoxide adduct are free from undesirable coloration.

Process for production of alkylene oxide adducts

The present invention provides a softener composition which contains a softening base having an excellent softening effect and satisfactory biodegradability. That is, the present invention provides the softener composition which comprises (A) a nonionic compound which has at least one Calkyl or alkenyl group and an amide bond but contains no dissociative group of amino or carboxyl group; and (B) at least one member selected among (B-&#x3b1;) cationic or ampholytic surfactants having one Calkyl or alkenyl group or one optionally substituted aryl group and (B-&#x3b2;) amino compounds having at least one Calkyl or alkenyl group and salts of the compounds.

Softener composition

The present invention provides a softening base and a softener having biodegradability employing a quaternary ammonium salt composition comprising (M) a monoester quaternary salt represented by the formula (I), (D) a diester quaternary salt represented by the formula (II) and (T) a triester quaternary salt represented by the formula (III), wherein the amount of (M) is 15 to 85% by weight, the amount of (D) is 0 to 44% by weight and the amount of (T) is 15 to 85% by weight based on the total amounts of (M), (D) and (T). The present invention also provides a process for producing the softener base and composition. wherein R, R, n and Xare defined herein.

Quaternary ammonium salt composition

Provided is a process for preparing a sulfuric acid amine salt (I) represented by the formula (I), which is a neutralization compound between a sulfated compound having a long chain alkyl or alkenyl group and an amine having a long chain alkyl or alkenyl group, useful as softener.

A softener composition, which contains tri-long-chain alkyl quaternary ammonium salt that has been considered to be difficult to use as a softener base agent, and which can provide a softener composition that provides a sufficient softening performance, is provided with (A) a cationic surfactant comprising at least one selected from the group consisting of quaternary ammonium salts represented by the formulae (I), (II) or (III), wherein the ratio of quaternary ammonium salt represented by the formula (I) to the total amount of these salts exceeds 50 weight %, with the ratio thereof represented by (III) being set to not more than 10%, and (B) at least one nonionic surfactant. In this case, (A) may include tertiary amine. (wherein, R, Rand Rrepresent long-chain alkyl groups, etc. having total carbon atoms of 8 to 40, which may be intersected by an ether group, an ester group or an amide group; Rrepresents an alkyl group, etc. having carbon atoms of 1 to 6, and Xrepresents an anionic group.)

Softening finish composition

The present invention provides a softener composition which contains a softening base having an excellent softening effect and satisfactory biodegradability. That is, the present invention provides the softener composition that has (A) a nonionic compound which has at least one C -C alkyl or alkenyl group and an amide bond but contains no dissociative group of amino or carboxyl group; and (B) at least one member selected among (B-&agr;) cationic or ampholytic surfactants having one C -C alkyl or alkenyl group or one optionally substituted aryl group and (B-&bgr;) amino compounds, having at least one C -C alkyl or alkenyl group and salts of the compunds.
