Provided are a method of assisting the detection of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and a method that is able to assist in determining the degree of progression of any condition associated with NASH, which are far less invasive than liver biopsy and include simple operations and are independent of the skills of technicians. The present invention provides a method of assisting the detection of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, including measuring the abundance of LDL-TG and/or ApoE-rich HDL-C contained in a test blood sample isolated from a living body. Also, the present invention provides a method of assisting in determining the degree of progression of at least one medical condition associated with nonalcoholic steatohepatitis, which medical condition(s) is(are) selected from the group consisting of fatty degeneration (steatosis), inflammation, ballooning degeneration, and fibrosis, including measuring the abundance of LDL-TG and/or ApoE-rich HDL-C contained in a test blood sample isolated from a living body.

A kit used for fractionation of small dense LDL cholesterol (sdLDL-C) in a sample, including: a first reagent composition having one or two or more activities selected from the group consisting of cholesterol esterase activity, cholesterol oxidase activity, and sphingomyelinase activity; and a second reagent composition for quantifying the sdLDL-C, in which in an absorption spectrum after storing the first reagent composition at 37° C. for 2 weeks, a ratio R1 represented by ABS400/ABS450 is 0.90 or more and 3.00 or less, and in an absorption spectrum after storing the second reagent composition at 37° C. for 2 weeks, a ratio R1 represented by ABS400/ABS450 is 0.90 or more and 8.00 or less.

Disclosed is a method for quantifying cholesterol in HDL, which does not require complex fragmentation and separation operations, and by which the HDL cholesterol in test samples containing HDL and other lipoproteins such as low density lipoprotein (LDL), very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) and chylomicron (CM) may be quantified selectively, simply and accurately. The method for quantifying cholesterol in high density lipoprotein comprises a first step of erasing cholesterol in lipoproteins other than high density lipoprotein in a test sample, and a second step of adding a surfactant which specifically acts on high density lipoprotein to the product of the first step and enzymatically quantifying cholesterol in high density lipoprotein.

The method for quantifying cholesterol in low density lipoprotein according to the present invention comprises a first step of erasing cholesterol in high density lipoprotein, very low density lipoprotein and chylomicron in a test sample, and a second step of quantifying cholesterol remaining in the test sample.
