In the disclosed sewing machine, when a needle threading switch is operated when sewing operation is stopped, a needle bar drive mechanism is activated, a needle threading hook is moved forward to a threading position, and a thread take-up is lowered by predetermined distance by driving a sewing machine motor in reverse rotation after threading a hook portion with a needle thread. Thus, a thread engaging portion of a check spring absorbs loss of required thread amount at the thread take-up and moves from a spring force operable position to a spring force inoperable position. Thus, the needle threading hook retracts to a loop cancel position and the needle thread reliably threads the sewing needle with secure engagement with the needle threading hook when a needle thread end is pulled off from a first thread retaining portion since needle thread is stabilized by absence of needle thread tension.

An embroidery sewing machine includes an embroidery frame, a carriage transferring the embroidery frame, a drive unit moving the carriage, a sewing machine motor, a control unit controlling the drive unit and the motor so that an embroidery sewing mode is executed in which an embroidery pattern is sewn or a manual-feed sewing mode is executed in which a sewing operation is carried out with manual cloth feed while the carriage is moved to and held at a predetermined evacuative position, a foot controller, a connecting part connecting the foot controller to the control unit, and a mode switching unit which selectively switches between the embroidery sewing mode and the manual feed sewing mode. The mode switching unit switches to the embroidery sewing mode when the foot controller is non-connected to the connecting part, and to the manual-feed sewing mode when the foot controller is connected to the connecting part.

A cap frame of an embroidery sewing machine includes a ring-shaped cap frame body to be detachably coupled with a moving mechanism of the embroidery sewing machine, a cap supporting segment attached to the cap frame body having a curved frame shape in which the cap is set, a holding-down member for holding down the vicinity of the area to be embroidered of the cap onto the cap supporting segment, and a cap central reference area formed at a circumferential center of a front edge on a cap top side of the cap supporting segment, which is tactually recognizable in touch with it from the outside surface of the cap put on the cap supporting segment. The cap central reference area includes a recess formed by cutting a part of the front edge on the cap top side of the supporting segment.

A sewing machine includes a threader including a threading hook for passing a thread through an eye of a needle, and a thread drawer including a thread drawing member wiping the thread extending through the needle eye downward, the thread drawing member also drawing a looped thread having been passed through the needle eye by the threading hook.

A sewing machine includes a head on which a needle bar for fixing a needle is mounted, a thread cutting blade mounted in the head so as to be capable of cutting an end of a thread which is threaded so as to be passed through an eye of the needle, and a holder mounted in the head so as to be capable of holding the thread end after the thread end has been cut by the thread cutting blade. The thread cutting blade is positioned so that a first amount of thread from the eye of the needle mounted in the head to the thread end held by the holder equals a second amount of thread by which the thread end is drawn to an underside of a cloth in a stitch formed immediately after start of a sewing operation.

An article supporting device is detachably mounted on a sewing machine including a sewing machine body with a moving mechanism for moving an article to be sewn, thereby holding the article. The article supporting device includes a support body mounted on the sewing machine body, a support frame detachably attached to the support body while the article is held on support frame, and a pressed portion mounted on the support body to be pressed so that the support body is pressed in a direction opposed to a direction in which the support frame is detached from the support body.

The embroidery sewing machine includes a plurality of types of embroidery frames differing in a size and/or a shape from each other and holding the workpiece cloth, the embroidery frames being selectively used, a carriage, a moving mechanism moving the carriage independently in two directions perpendicular to each other, a frame holder to which the embroidery frames are selectively attached, the frame holder including a holder body fixed to the carriage and a movable holder mounted to one of a plurality of positions corresponding to the respective types of the embroidery frames relative to the holder body so that the position of the movable holder is exchangeable, a detector detecting a position of the movable holder relative to the holder body, and a determining unit determining the type of the embroidery frame based on a result of detection by the detector.

In a presser foot device of a sewing machine, a presser foot is vertically movably supported to a sewing machine body frame by a presser bar. A drive device moves the presser bar up and down in accordance with a drive signal. A sensor detects when the presser foot is raised close to a top dead center position, that is, a predetermined position. Based on the detection by the sensor, a control device controls the drive signal for the presser foot drive device.
