Packaging machine

A packaging machine has a folding rail for guiding a prefolded bottom forming portion of a container fitted around a mandrel from a first process station to a second process station during the movement of the mandrel from the first to the second station while folding the bottom forming portion flat by contact therewith. The folding rail comprises right and left two rail members , with a clearance C formed therebetween for permitting an outer end of the prefolded bottom forming portion of the container fitted around the mandrel to be inserted thereinto during the movement from the first to the second station. An unfolding preventing guide member is disposed in the rail clearance C so as to come into contact with a required part of the bottom forming portion during movement through the clearance.

A liquid filling apparatus comprises an apparatus body having a liquid channel connected at one end thereof to a liquid tank and at the other end thereof to a filling nozzle, a metering cylinder provided in the liquid channel between opposite ends thereof in communication with the ends for causing the liquid to be filled to flow into and out of the liquid channel by strokes of a piston housed in the cylinder, a check valve disposed upstream from the metering cylinder of the liquid channel, and valve opening-closing means for mechanically operating the check valve so as to open the valve during the inflow stroke of the piston and to close the valve during the outflow stroke of the piston.

A packaging machine comprises a rotor 22 having radial mandrels 21 each adapted to carry a tubular blank 11 of square to rectangular cross section as fitted therearound and arranged to successively stop at a plurality of processing stations I to VIII, a group of devices 23 to 28 arranged respectively at the required stations among the processing stations I to VIII for folding and closing a container bottom forming end portion 14 of the blank 11 as fitted around the mandrel 21, and an air suction nozzle 31 for collecting extraneous matter is disposed at a required location along a path of movement of the mandrel.

A liquid filling device comprises a filling nozzle 31 for filling contents into containers C being transported by a conveyor 13, and a lifter 34 for lifting the container C to be filled from the path of transport of the conveyor. The filling nozzle 31 has a lower portion providing a vertical cylinder portion 42 fittable with the container C to be lifted by the lifter 34. The filling nozzle 31 is provided with an air cover 51 comprising a top wall and a peripheral wall extending downward from an edge portion of the top wall. The filling nozzle 31 extends through the top wall, with its vertical cylinder portion 42 projecting into the air cover 51. The air cover 51 has connected thereto an outlet end of a dry air pipe 52.

A blank feeder is used for feeding blanks to a bottom forming mandrel. The blanks are initially in a flat form and are unfoldable to a form of square cross section. The feeder includes a magazine for the flat blanks, and a transport arrangement having a path of transport extending from the delivery opening along a circular arc having a central axis parallel to the widthwise direction of the blank in the delivery opening. The transport arrangement includes a suction member, a transport arm carrying the suction member on a forward end, and a shaft rotatably supporting the transport arm and having an axis aligned with a central axis of the circular arc. The suction member has suction cups at different distances from the central axis for gripping one side of the blank, so that the blank is unfolded by movement of the suction member along the circular arc causing a greater separation of a gripped side of the blank at the furthest end of the blank from the central axis than at the nearest end of the blank. An unfolding arrangement is also provided, for unfolding each blank while the blank is being transported, the unfolding arrangement having first and second blank unfolding claws at edge portions of the delivery opening so as to individually engage with opposite ends of the blank in the delivery opening.

A blank feeder is disclosed having a magazine with a delivery opening at one end and accommodating flat blanks as arranged from the one end toward the other end thereof in the form of a stack. The blank feeder also has a transport device having a path of transport extending straight from the delivery opening as a starting end to a terminal end away from the opening, and a device for unfolding each of the flat blanks to a tubular form of square cross section while the blank is being transported by the transport device. The unfolding device has first and second blank unfolding claws provided at edge portions of the delivery opening so as to be individually engageable with opposite ends of the blank in the delivery opening. The first and second unfolding claws are positioned at different distances from a reference plane orthogonal to the transport path in a direction along the path.

A blank feeder has a pair of guide rails for guiding blanks having a tubular form of square cross section to a bottom forming mandrel. The guide rails are formed with opposed recessed portions which are V-shaped in cross section for holding therebetween two corners of the blank on a diagonal thereof, and have shock absorbing means for mitigating the impact to be involved in the stiking contact of the blank with the guide rails.
