A printed product is produced by applying at least one colored and water-containing ink to image regions on a printing material in a drop-on-demand process, applying a substantially colorless and water-containing liquid a) to non-image regions and/or b) to image regions that have little ink in a drop-on-demand process and drying the printing material. In this case, the printing material has a coating with at least one acid. After applying ink and applying the liquid, a water-containing further liquid is applied both to image regions and to non-image regions of the printing material. The first-mentioned liquid and/or the further liquid contains at least one substance for at least partly neutralizing the acid. The undesired formation of crease waves or curls and glossiness fluctuations between varnished image areas and varnished non-image areas is thus advantageously avoided.

A lithographic printing process comprises the steps of: imagewise exposing to infrared light a presensitized lithographic plate which comprises a hydrophilic support and an image-forming layer containing an infrared absorbing agent, a polymerization initiator and a binder polymer to polymerize the polymerizable compound within the exposed area; removing the image-forming layer within the unexposed area while mounting the lithographic plate on a cylinder of a printing press; and then printing with the lithographic plate while mounting the lithographic plate on the cylinder of the printing press. The polymerization initiator is a salt of an anion with a sulfonium ion. According to the present invention, a specific anion or a specific sulfonium ion is used in the polymerization initiator.

A lithographic printing process which comprises the steps of: imagewise exposing to infrared light a presensitized lithographic plate which comprises a hydrophilic support and a removable image-forming layer containing an infrared absorbing agent having the absorption maximum within an infrared region and a dye precursor having substantially no absorption within a visible region to change the dye precursor to a visible dye having an absorption within a visible region within the exposed area, and to make the image-forming layer irremovable within the exposed area; removing the image-forming layer within the unexposed area of the lithographic plate mounted on a cylinder of a printing press; and then printing an image with the lithographic plate mounted on the cylinder of the printing press. The other processes are also disclosed.

Lithographic printing process

A color image-forming material capable of drawing an image by infrared laser exposure and excellent in image visibility, storage stability and white light stability, and an on-press development or non-processing (non-development) type lithographic printing plate precursor ensuring high sensitivity and high press life and being excellent in image visibility, on-press developability and the like, are provided, which are a color image-forming material comprising an image recording layer capable of drawing an image by infrared laser exposure, the color image-forming material forming a color image without passing through a development processing step after image recording, wherein the image recording layer comprises (A) an infrared absorbent, (B) a cyclic color-forming compound having a cyclic structure within the molecule and forming a dye by a ring opening, and (C) a dye stabilizer which is a compound interacting with the cyclic color-forming compound to stabilize the ring-opened dye body and cause color formation and which is released from the interaction upon laser exposure to decrease in the color formation; and a lithographic printing plate precursor using this color image-forming material.

The present invention provides a PS plate for use in making a lithographic printing plate, comprising an aluminum substrate provided thereon with a light-sensitive layer comprising a polyurethane resin binder, an addition polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated bond-containing compound and a photopolymerization initiator, wherein the polyurethane resin binder is one synthesized from at least the following compounds (i) to (iv): (i) at least one di-isocyanate compound; (ii) at least one diol compound having at least one carboxyl group; (iii) at least one diol compound whose log P value is less than 0; and (iv) at least one diol compound whose log P value is higher than 0. The PS plate and a method for making a lithographic printing plate therefrom according to the present invention satisfy the requirements for high resistance to staining and high printing durability, which permits the dissolution, in a developer, of the foregoing compounds insoluble in the developer or the stable dispersion of the compounds in the developer over a long period of time and improve the stable processing ability of the developer, without impairing the image-forming ability at all.

A presensitized lithographic printing plate comprises a hydrophilic support and an image-forming layer. The image-forming layer contains microcapsules and a hydrophilic compound. The microcapsules are dispersed in the image forming layer. The hydrophilic compound is arranged outside of the microcapsules. The microcapsules comprise a core and a shell. The core comprises a polymerizable compound. The shell comprises a polymer. The polymer of the shell has adherence to a surface of the hydrophilic support.

A negative working photosensitive lithographic printing plate is disclosed, which comprises a support having thereon at least one photosensitive layer containing a polymeric binder having repeating units represented by formula (I):wherein Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; Rrepresents a hydrocarbon group which has an alicyclic structure and has 3 to 30 carbon atoms and a valence of n+1; A represents an oxygen atom or &#x2014;NR&#x2014;, wherein Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 10 carbon atoms; and n is an integer of 1 to 5.
