Provided is an airbag and an airbag apparatus that are easy to manufacture and in which the amount of gas to be released from the inside of the airbag when a passenger in proximity is restrained can be increased. An airbag includes a first panel member provided on an instrument-panel side, and a second panel member provided on a passenger side. The first panel member includes a deploying part that is deployable into a tapered cylindrical shape whose diameter increases toward the distal side thereof. The second panel member has on the proximal side thereof a fitting port whose diameter is smaller than the maximum diameter of the deploying part. In a state where the airbag has been inflated, the fitting port is anchored to the deploying part. If a passenger in proximity is restrained, gas is releasable from a clearance.

Airbag and airbag apparatus

An airbag is a passenger seat airbag that inflates and deploys between a passenger seat and an instrument panel, and has side vent holes and a front vent hole. When an inflator is actuated in a state where a passenger close to the instrument panel exists, a valve cloth opens the front vent hole with the vicinity of the front vent hole away from the windshield.

A passenger airbag and a passenger airbag device in which when the passenger airbag starts to inflate with an interfering object close to the IP, gas in the airbag is caused to quickly flow out through vent holes to reduce the impact on the interfering object, and a vehicle equipped with this passenger airbag device. In case of front collision of the vehicle, an inflator is activated to generate gas, and the gas flows through a diffuser into an airbag main body. The diffuser inflates, and the diffuser and the airbag main body thereby start to deploy above the IP. In this early stage of deployment, the diffuser is quickly almost fully inflated, and gas discharge openings are located above the IP. The diffuser is provided with a depression, and the depression faces the interfering object M.

An airbag device that can limit the movement of a strap outside an airbag even when the other end of the strap is released is provided. An airbag device includes an airbagthat is folded in a normal state and deployed in case of emergency, an inflatorthat supplies gas to the airbag, a retainerthat secures the airbagand the inflator, and a strap-retaining devicethat retains a strap, which is connected to a portion of the airbagat one endthereof, at the other endof the strapin a releasable manner. The airbag device further includes a strap-restraining tether, which is connected to the strapat one endthereof and to the airbagat the other endthereof. The strap-restraining tetherlimits the movement of the free end of the strapthat has been released.

An airbag includes: a base chamber; a left-half airbag inflated on a front-left side of the passenger, wherein a first opening is formed through the left-half airbag at an upper portion thereof; and a right-half airbag inflated on a front-right side of the passenger, wherein a first opening is formed through the right-half airbag at an upper portion thereof. A recess is formed between the left-half airbag and the right-half airbag so as to face the passenger, when the airbag is inflated in front of the passenger. The first openings are communicated with each other. A first seam joining the left-half airbag and the right-half airbag is formed to surround the first openings. The first openings communicated with each other are formed to extend in a vehicle front-rear direction.

An airbag includes: a base chamber; a left-half airbag inflated on a front-left side of the passenger, wherein a first opening is formed at an upper portion, and a second opening is formed at a lower portion; and a right-half airbag inflated on a front-right side of the passenger wherein a first opening is formed at an upper portion, and a second opening is formed at a lower portion. A first seam joining the left-half airbag and the right-half airbag is formed to surround the first openings, and a second seam joining the left-half airbag and the right-half airbag is formed to surround the second openings. The first seam is located above an entrance line along which a top of a head of a small passenger enters the airbag and is substantially parallel with the entrance line.

When an air bag body beings to expand due to gas flowing from an inflator into the air bag body, a left side folded piece and a right side folded piece which have been folded into concertinas expand quickly to thrust laterally to the left and right. Vent holes are located to be exposed in upper faces of the folded pieces. Accordingly, the gas can flow out from the interiors of the folded pieces through the vent holes as soon as the folded pieces begin to expand.

There is provided a passenger-side airbag folded body in which an inflator opening is provided at a base end of an airbag and a vent hole is provided at each of right and left side surfaces of the airbag. Right and left end parts of the airbag are folded along vertical fold lines, thereby providing a vertically long primary folded body. The primary folded body is folded along lateral fold lines, thereby providing the passenger-side airbag folded body serving as a final folded body, and the vent holes are exposed at right and left end faces of the final folded body.

There is provided an airbag that is folded up in a normal state and is inflated and deployed in an emergency state. The airbag includes: a base fabric; a tether sewn to the base fabric and configured to restrict a shape of the airbag when the airbag is inflated and deployed. The base fabric has a first pin hole therethrough in a contact region where the base fabric and the tether contacts each other, and the tether has a second pin hole therethrough in the contact region, wherein a position of the second pin hole corresponds to a position of the first pin hole. The tether has a folded back portion sewn to the tether and covering the first and second pin holes. The respective first and second pin holes are configured to receive a positioning pin for fixing the base fabric and tether to each other.

A folding method of an airbag having a left airbag portion and a right airbag portion is disclosed. In one form, the method includes the steps of: a primary folding step for forming a primary folded body in which said airbag is flattened along a top-bottom direction and along a right-left direction by folding said airbag in a manner that decreases a thickness of said left airbag portion and said right airbag portion along a front-back direction and at least partially separates a left surface of said left airbag portion and a right surface of said right airbag portion along the right-left direction; and a secondary folding step for forming a final folded body by folding said primary folded body in a manner that decreases its width along the top-bottom direction and along the right-left direction.

Airbag, airbag device and airbag exhausting method

An airbag comprises a right half airbag to be inflated on a front right side of an occupant, a left half airbag to be inflated on a front left side of the occupant, and a base-end chamber that communicates with base-end sides of the right half airbag and the left half airbag. The right half airbag and the left half airbag are stitched together by a seam. The interior of each of the bags and communicate with each other by upper part and lower part openings and. A vertically extended concave portion exists on a surface of the inflated airbag that faces the occupant. The concave portion is deepest in the intermediate part and shallow in the upper part and lower part.
