An endoscope system includes: an image configuring portion configured to configure a first image and a second image based on image pickup signals corresponding to different areas in a same subject; a luminance detecting portion configured to detect luminances of the first and second images; and a luminance control portion adjusting, for areas obtained by dividing each of the first and second images as units, the luminance of at least one of the images so that a luminance difference between two areas where the first image and the second image adjoin each other becomes equal to or smaller than a threshold.

A treatment instrument operation unit is provided with a drive unit, an operation portion installation section and a command signal output section. The drive unit drives an operation portion for operating each treatment section of the respective treatment instruments. The operation portion is attached to the operation portion installation section provided to the drive unit. The command signal output section outputs an installation start signal to a controller for notifying that the installation of the treatment instrument has begun upon installation of the operation portion in the operation portion installation section. After outputting the installation start signal from the command signal output section to the controller, the drive unit drives the operation portion installation section to the position where the operation portion is allowed to be installed based on the control signal outputted form the controller.

Endoscope system, endoscope, supporting member, and method of using endoscope system

An apparatus is provided which assists operations required for a medical instrument. A tubular portion and a therapeutic member of the instrument are inserted through a channel of an insertion tube of an endoscope. In the apparatus, a first drive unit enables the therapeutic member to perform the desired therapeutic operations responsively to a first command signal and a second drive unit enables the tubular portion inserted in the channel to convey responsively to a second command signal. An input device is provided at which two kinds of commands are allowed to be inputted command by command. The two kinds of commands allow the therapeutic member and the tubular portion to be driven in parallel with each other. A controller provides the first and second drive units with the first and second command signals, respectively, in accordance with the two kinds of commands.

A medical system includes: a first operation apparatus used when a first doctor operates a medical instrument; a second operation apparatus that outputs a control instruction signal for controlling a motion of the medical instrument, and is operated by a second doctor; at least one medical action information detection section that detects medical action information based on the motion of the medical instrument when the first doctor operates the medical instrument using the first operation apparatus; a storage apparatus that stores reference information set by the second doctor according to the first doctor for comparing with the medical action information detected by the medical action information detection section; a switching signal generation apparatus that is connected to the second operation apparatus, and switches an output destination of the control instruction signal based on the medical action information detected by the medical action information detection section and the reference information stored in the storage apparatus; and a medical instrument control apparatus that controls the medical instrument according to the control instruction signal of the second operation apparatus outputted from the switching signal generation apparatus.

An endoscope includes a side viewing observation section and a forward viewing observation section provided on a distal end side of an insertion portion which is inserted into an observation target for acquiring subject images of an observation target in a circumferential direction and an insertion direction of the insertion portion, respectively, a shielding section located within a viewing field of the side viewing observation section for shielding light from the subject entering the side viewing observation section and a protruding member protruding from the insertion portion arranged in a shielding region formed by the shielding section. A first bendable section which can be bent in an arbitrary direction and a second bendable section which can be bent in the bending direction of this first bendable section are provided at the tip end side of an insertion portion. A balloon which is inflated/contracted by feed/discharge of a fluid is provided in this second bendable section so that hardness of this second bendable section can be varied and insertion work into a curved portion is facilitated.
